The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

You’ll feel at home the instant you arrive at this stylish abode. Best of all, the apartment boasts sea views. Wake up each morning to see the sea rushing ashore. Step out onto the balcony to sip your morning coffee, and breathe in the sea air. The blue-tiled kitchen is a lovely spot for your meals, whether you’ve whipped up a cooked breakfast or are unwrapping fish and chips for your evening meal. 

It’s just a short walk down to the beach, where you can build sandcastles, skim stones, or even try out the surf. Saltburn is also home to the UK’s oldest functioning cliff lift – enjoy the ride down to the promenade. Or with hills to the north and south, you can amble to your heart’s content. Either way, this magnificent house will be ideal to come home to after exploring the beauty of Yorkshire.

Although it’s set over three fabulous floors, the entrance is truly the heart of the home. Modern, elegant, and opulent, the decor makes use of natural elements like wood and stone, with a muted colour palette. You’ll love stepping into the open-plan kitchen, where a huge skylight allows soft sunlight to beam down while you enjoy a hearty brunch. Or in the evening, you might find yourself by the log-burning stove in the formal dining space, sipping red wine alongside a Sunday roast. Afterwards, head up to the top floor, where you can admire the original architecture of chunky timber beams in the eaves of this grand country home.

This cosy house is perfect for family breaks to the seaside. It stands on the edge of East Cliff, just a ten-minute walk from Whitby’s town centre and its narrow medieval streets lined with pubs, shops and comfy cafes. You can walk easily to the west side of town, where you’ll find the Blue Flag West Cliff Beach and its brightly coloured beach huts. Add in the wonderful Whitby Abbey and its rich history, and you’ll never be short of things to see and do here. 

The house itself is warm and welcoming, with heaps of space. It’s an excellent choice for a big group of friends or a couple of families travelling together, as there’s plenty of room for everyone. We love the balcony that opens out from the living room – it boasts gorgeous views of Whitby and its harbour, and is the perfect spot for a morning cuppa. Later on in the day, you might pick up takeaway fish and chips to unwrap on one of the picnic tables on the terrace. It’s a lovely way to round off a day at the seaside.

A converted farm worker's cottage, it's been lovingly updated to create a modern and comfortable stay. As soon as you walk in, you're welcomed by a warm and classically furnished home, with every little detail already thought of. There's an impressive stone fireplace in the open-plan living room, fitted with a log burner for cosy evenings in, no matter the weather outside. On sunny days, open the French doors to the pretty garden and sit outside on the terrace – the sunsets here are amazing. Keen cooks will love the high-spec kitchen, which flows easily into the dining area and living room so everyone can socialise. Each bedroom has a bathroom and we love the master bedroom's view and its lovely freestanding bath. Here you'll be in prime walking country, with hikes from your doorstep. And it's just a ten-minute drive to the market town of Hexham.

Wonder Wall

This converted chapel school sits in the beautiful rolling hills of the North York Moors and behind the well-preserved exterior lies a truly unique home. Large arched windows let in copious amounts of natural light, which is emphasised by the high ceiling and walls finished in a cleansing shade of white. An abundance of velvet textures and the slick kitchen surfaces feel particularly en vogue, too. Out in the large and enclosed garden, there's a picturesque terrace for those warm summer nights when you want to dine alfresco and a view of the countryside that stretches to the sea. Guests really are spoilt for choice when it comes to planning an itinerary. Sandsend Beach is three minutes' drive away, while getting to the centre of Whitby takes just under ten. To make the most of your seaside escape, the Blue Flag West Cliff beach, and promenade are just a five-minute walk away. While nestled on the West Cliff, lining Pier Road – which can be reached in eight minutes on foot – you’ll find arcades for hours of fun on rainy days and Whitby’s famous fish restaurants serving the catch of the day because it simply wouldn’t be a beach holiday without fish and chips.

Pretty much everything is within walking distance, meaning there's no need to get the car out – you can just pull your shoes on and tour Whitby by foot. The promenade is just a short stroll from the apartment and a bunch of fun arcades and fresh fish restaurants can be found on Pier Road.

Located in the hamlet of Pinchinthorpe – right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park – this welcoming cottage offers breathtaking landscapes on its doorstep, as well as a comfortable base to call home.

Just as the seemingly limitless panorama of sky and sea on North Yorkshire's coastline feels bright and invigorating, so too does the interior of this home found close to the River Esk.
