Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

An eleven-minute drive to the bustling town of Hexham (or just over thirty minutes to the metropolis of Newcastle), this delightful cottage offers a secluded, rural retreat in the north of England. The setting is postcard-perfect – a white picket fence, traditional iron lamppost, and handmade stone wall surround this cute and cosy home. As you stroll down your paved entrance, you’ll notice your manicured lawn, flowerbed, and dining patio. On a sunny day, it’s the ideal spot for a picnic. Or on a chilly evening, it’s even better for stargazing with a hot toddy in hand. Inside, the living space is a welcoming mix of old and new. The stylish, light-grey kitchen is understated and modern. But we love the traditional countryside features such as flagstone flooring and a sandstone, inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove. You feel like you've gone back in time when you’re stoking the flames with the cast-iron tools, and adding fresh logs from the wicker basket. And there’s plenty of history to discover outside the home too – take a thirty-five-minute walk to the 2000-year-old Chesters Roman Fort and Museum on Hadrian’s Wall.

A truly stunning rural retreat, this home is sat on a hill overlooking the beautiful South Tyne Valley – just five minutes from Hadrian's Wall. Away from it all, yet within walking distance of the village pub, this place really has to be one of our favourites in this neck of the woods. A converted farm worker's cottage, it's been lovingly updated to create a modern and comfortable stay. As soon as you walk in, you're welcomed by a warm and classically furnished home, with every little detail already thought of. There's an impressive stone fireplace in the open-plan living room, fitted with a log burner for cosy evenings in, no matter the weather outside. On sunny days, open the French doors to the pretty garden and sit outside on the terrace – the sunsets here are amazing. Keen cooks will love the high-spec kitchen, which flows easily into the dining area and living room so everyone can socialise. Each bedroom has a bathroom and we love the master bedroom's view and its lovely freestanding bath. Here you'll be in prime walking country, with hikes from your doorstep. And it's just a ten-minute drive to the market town of Hexham.

You're also located just a short walk from the infamous 199 Steps, so be sure to pack comfortable shoes for the best views in town.

In the heart of Pickering, this stone charmer is just a six-minute walk from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Inside, wooden beams and ornamental fireplaces reflect the home's 200-year-old history, while two cosy lounges – including one with a log burner – provide plenty of space to sprawl out. We're especially fond of the rear garden, which is a sweet spot to enjoy a morning brew or an alfresco G&T. A huge perk is that this pad is pet-friendly, welcoming one well-behaved dog to join in on the fun. Despite the plain bedrooms and basic bathrooms, overall, we think it's a good option for families keen to explore North Yorkshire.

This charming apartment is ideal for romantic getaways, and equally well suited to solo stays by the sea. We love the traditional beams and cosy, homey vibe. You’ll feel at home the instant you arrive at this stylish abode. Best of all, the apartment boasts sea views. Wake up each morning to see the sea rushing ashore. Step out onto the balcony to sip your morning coffee, and breathe in the sea air. The blue-tiled kitchen is a lovely spot for your meals, whether you’ve whipped up a cooked breakfast or are unwrapping fish and chips for your evening meal. 

It’s just a short walk down to the beach, where you can build sandcastles, skim stones, or even try out the surf. Saltburn is also home to the UK’s oldest functioning cliff lift – enjoy the ride down to the promenade. Later on, stroll along the 208-metre-long pier with an ice cream – we do love to be beside the sea.

Or with hills to the north and south, you can amble to your heart’s content. Either way, this magnificent house will be ideal to come home to after exploring the beauty of Yorkshire.

Although it’s set over three fabulous floors, the entrance is truly the heart of the home. Modern, elegant, and opulent, the decor makes use of natural elements like wood and stone, with a muted colour palette. You’ll love stepping into the open-plan kitchen, where a huge skylight allows soft sunlight to beam down while you enjoy a hearty brunch. If you head a bit further out of the town, you’ll discover the surrounding area’s woodland and moorland, with plenty of beautiful spots for long walks and scrumptious picnics.

It may have literary associations with a certain Count Dracula, but you won't find any vampires roaming the streets of Whitby. Instead, it's a charming and memorable seaside town with more than a few fans who return year after year. And a stay in this smart home is bound to be unforgettable, with a great location and a few luxury touches. Set over three floors, and with a striking modern interior, it's perfect for a large family or a group of friends. On the first floor there's a super stylish open-plan kitchen and living space, made for socialising over breakfast or lingering in over drinks in the evening, with a more cosy sitting room on the ground floor.
