This historic home in the heart of the Derbyshire spa town of Buxton is perfect for a couple of couples seeking to explore the Peak District. Recently renovated, this grade II listed Victorian property built in the mid-1800s boasts both character, comfort and style. 

This sensational second-floor home and former Post Office features a cosy all-purpose kitchen cum dining and living room as well as two en-suite bedrooms. You’ll love taking your morning coffee at the breakfast bar, whipping up your signature dishes in the contemporary kitchen – think mint green walls, wooden floors, cream coloured cabinetry and low hanging lights – before dining together at the wooden table. Indulge in a long, hot soak in the tub before cosying up on the sofas and settling in for movie night. Alternatively, on sunny days why not spend the day out on the shared terrace where you’ll be able to barbecue to heart’s content or simply sit and chat surrounded by trees, flowers, and shrubs, not to mention the odd gnome?  

If you fancy getting out and about and exploring the home of Buxton water, you won’t be disappointed to discover a variety of independent shops, café, restaurants and bars as well as natural wonders such as Poole’s Cavern on your doorstep. Treat yourself to a spa day or if you fancy a little more activity, Buxton is a great base from which to explore the UK’s oldest National Park, the Derbyshire Dales and the magnificent Chatsworth Estate.


Over Hill & Dale

A cosy getaway for two, this charming cottage is packed with character and has idyllic views of the Peak District to match. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking – imagine lush green fields, grazing cattle and tree-dotted hills, all spread out before you – and the best place to admire the rolling countryside is the garden. Sharing a bottle of wine as the sun goes down will become your evening ritual – with views like that, it'll be hard to tear yourself away. There's also an excellent outlook from the bedroom, which you'll wake up to daily.

Make yourself comfortable on the squishy sofa following a long day wandering the Peaks and snuggle up for a movie night – you can sign in to your Netflix, Prime and Disney+ accounts, so there are plenty of films to choose from. When you grow peckish, the kitchen is well-stocked and well-suited to rustling up delicious meals, but if you don't fancy cooking, Foolow's village pub is only a twelve-minute stroll away and serves excellent food and refreshing local ales.

And speaking of exploring, there's a network of public footpaths on your doorstep – simply lace up your walking shoes, head out the front door and the Peak District is yours to ramble and roam. Also close by is Bakewell, home to an array of shops, restaurants and a weekly Monday market – it’s just fifteen minutes by car.

Summer Dusk, Autumn Dawn

Situated within a Peak District estate, this 16th-century hunting tower was built for Bess of Hardwick, the ancestress of the Duke of Devonshire. This four-storey tower isn’t suitable for young children or guests with limited mobility – you’ll need to ascend the steep and winding staircase to reach all areas of this abode. Expect traditional features, with an AGA for cooking family favourites after a day exploring Chatsworth House. You’ll find a health club on the estate too, so speak to your host to arrange a spa session. After a few tennis games on the communal courts, unwind with a glass of red in the cosy sitting room. For local hikes, Curbar Edge and Froggatt Edge are a​​ fifteen-minute drive away.  

To the Tower

Located in the town of Dronfield, which lies midway between Sheffield and Chesterfield, this home is the ideal base for exploring the beautiful Peak District and the city of Sheffield. A luxury apartment which has been refurbished to boutique hotel standard, this home offers the comfort you will need after busy days.

With Dronfield trains station just a two-minute walk away, you can easily hop on a train to Chesterfield or Sheffield, or if you have a car, the centre of Sheffield is just fifteen minutes away, while Chesterfield and the stunning Peak District can be reached in just ten minutes where you can enjoy great walks to admire the incredible landscape.

On rainy evenings, return home and let the vinyl player create a soundscape for your relaxation as you settle yourself on the sofa or the large swivel sofa chair. 

Dronfield Delight

Located in the heart of Matlock, this cosy apartment offers an ideal base for a couple or solo traveller looking to explore the Peak District National Park and its many charming towns and villages. 

Step inside to be met with wood floors, crisp white walls and comfortable modern furnishings that will make you feel right at home. We love the sunny touches of yellow in the decor that make the open-plan living space a welcome, cheerful spot to relax in – whether around the table for sociable breakfast and dinners, or on the sofa with a good book and a glass of wine. The bedroom, meanwhile, is a pared-back space that invites a restful night’s sleep in its king-size bed and offers an en-suite shower room that is sure to get any day off on the right foot. 

When it comes to exploring, you’ve got a wealth of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes on your doorstep, while the neighbouring town of Matlock Bath is a gentle stroll away along the scenic River Derwent. You’re also ideally placed for hikes and cycles around the National Park, and Sheffield offers an entertaining day trip just an hour away by car.

The Otter's Tea Party

Dating back to the 19th century, this barn in the White Peak area of the Peak District has ben given a new lease of life in recent years. No longer used for farmyard storage, it's now a country getaway full of luxurious touches.

Save for the sections of exposed stonework, you wouldn't be able to guess this home's true age. The design is contemporary but definitely rustic in flavour, with bare floorboards, artfully weathered wooden furnishings and a Scandinavian-style wood-burning stove that's the ideal companion to return to after a long bout in the great outdoors. The svelte rolltop bathtub upstairs is another way to get toasty and warm, too.

As you can probably guess from looking out through the glass doors to bucolic views of rolling countryside, you're not short of walking routes and picturesque scenic points in the immediate locale. The historic market town of Longnor only takes five minutes to reach in the car as well and offers a one pub, coffee shop & village shop. 

The Farmer's Husband

Located on the southeastern edge of the gorgeous Peak District National Park, this stunning ten-bed Georgian mansion is secluded away within an acre of immaculately presented private gardens. With terraced lawns, cute courtyard spaces and a Big Green Egg barbecue, the ornate outdoor areas are perfectly set up for alfresco dining. In fact, the gardens are noteworthy enough to have had an entire episode of BBC's Gardener's World devoted to them.

The home packs in plenty of charm from the moment you enter its grand entrance hall, with eye-catching colourful tiles, an imposing fireplace and elegant antiques. It's a similar story throughout the rest of the ground floor, with the addition of wood panelling in the reading room, large bay windows overlooking the garden in the drawing room, and plenty of light and space beneath the beautiful vaulted ceiling in the kitchen. Here, a large pine table sits up to ten adults or fourteen with children – perfect for large gatherings of friends and family.

Upstairs houses the six bedrooms, each with its own unique atmosphere and no less lovely than the last. With a four-poster bed, freestanding tubs in the en-suites and double aspect windows overlooking the luscious gardens, the only dilemma will be which of the three en-suite double bedrooms or two twins to choose. Finally, there's a bunk room that can accommodate four children. 

The ever-popular Peak District, England's oldest national park, is right on your doorstep. There are plenty of picturesque towns and villages to visit, plus rugged, windswept scenery to hike through or simply admire from a fireside armchair in one of its charming pubs. Those with a head for heights might like to try their hand at rock climbing or hot air ballooning, while cycling and hiking are on offer for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground. If you'd like to nurture your creative side, speak to your hosts about photography courses and art classes.

The Crystal Palace

This semi-detached cottage is nestled in the beautiful grounds of the Chatsworth Estate. Accessed by a single-track road (not suitable for low cars), you’ll be welcomed by cosy rooms and a wonderful sense of seclusion. There is also a wood-burning stove, a private rear garden and flexible sleeping arrangements – the zip-and-link bed can be arranged as a double or two single beds on request. Guests can enjoy multi-entrance tickets to the House and Gardens, as well as access to the estate gym, tennis court and swimming pool for an additional fee. 

Beyond the Garden

In a secluded setting amid the valleys of the Peak District, this restored historic home offers a luxurious and unique stay for a large group, whether for a co-working retreat or a family reunion. Up to thirty guests can be accommodated, with ten sleeping in the curtained single beds in the attic room. You’ll be based in the idyllic village of Wildboarclough, with the River Dane surrounding the home on three sides – is there anything better than drifting off to sleep to the sound of rippling water? With wood-fired hot tubs, an indoor pool, and pizza ovens, you’ll have plenty to keep you entertained here. 

Posh Peaks

This cosy sandstone cottage can be found in the Chatsworth Estate village of Beeley. Its location is the star of the show, as you can enjoy views of the Chatsworth Estate from the private garden, and head out on lovely walks right from the doorstep. The village pub is a two-minute walk – perfect for a pre-dinner pint. You’re also within easy reach of Bakewell and Matlock. There’s a wood burner in the original stone fireplace, and plenty of charm to boot. 

The Barn Owl's Home

Lying on the banks of the River Wye, surrounded by beautiful valleys and the pretty courtyards of Bakewell, this charming cottage offers spectacular scenery and plenty of creature comforts. A Grade II listed building dating back to the 17th century, this home has been carefully converted whilst retaining some of its original features. Wooden ceiling beams and an open fire housed in stone remind you of times gone by, while the contemporary kitchen and sumptuous seating areas bring a little luxury into the equation. 

Step outside and you'll find a gorgeous garden, complete with a patio and dining table. This is the perfect spot to spend a morning drinking coffee and planning the day ahead. When it comes to exploring, you won't be short of things to see and do here. Bakewell is widely considered a gem of the Peak District, thanks to its Anglo-Saxon roots and plethora of award-winning restaurants and pubs. Home to the iconic Bakewell pudding, it's safe to say that foodies will be in their element here. You've also got the Derbyshire countryside on your doorstep, meaning you can enjoy the fresh air and fine walks with the dog every day. For more adventurous hikes, the snow-capped mountains of the Peak District are a short drive away. 

Whether you spend your days shopping, hiking or sampling the local cuisine, you'll always have a cosy home to come back to. Throw some logs on the fire and open a bottle of wine, then settle in with a movie, or have a go at cooking your own Bakewell pudding in the kitchen to enjoy with some hot custard. 


Bakewell Slice

This quirky flat in Sheffield has urban cool written all over it. Lush greens, bold oranges, leafy plants and bamboo accents give the place a natural, bohemian flair. We think it's as cosy as it is stylish, making it an excellent base to come home to after a busy day. The private balcony is the icing on the cake – it's the perfect spot to sip morning coffees and evening cocktails as the sun goes down. Everything you need for a relaxed stay is taken care of – there are two stylish bathrooms so nobody needs to wait in line, Netflix on the smart TV if you want to chill at home and a desk if you need to do a bit of work. Cooking is anything but a chore in the sleek kitchen, which has plenty of dinnerware for when you're in the mood to rustle up a meal. Java junkies will also be pleased to see both a Nespresso machine and a cafetiere. Best of all, the location is pretty much perfect. Set in vibrant Kelham Island, there's a wealth of independent eateries, bars, music venues and pubs within walking distance. Plus, the city centre is just a twenty-minute stroll away – trust us, you'll never be short on things to do here.
