Sit back, relax, and watch the tide roll in from the leather armchairs – thanks to the large windows, the scenery is always front and centre. The apartment is a great size for two, though a third guest could be accommodated on a sofa bed with prior notice. And the location? You can't beat it. A steep passageway leads directly to the beach, putting the saltwater and single shore right on your doorstep.

Peak cottage appeal awaits at this thatched home set within the rolling Devon countryside. While the wonky lime-washed walls, narrow staircase, and rustic kitchen built into the former stables are impressive, it’s not overly accessible or toddler friendly. But we think it only adds to the charm. Outside, the grounds are vast, with an enclosed garden and orchard, an alfresco dining deck, and the use of a paddock. There’s also the adjoining shared barn with table tennis if the weather plays up. Location-wise, you’re just a twenty-minute drive to the seaside town of Lyme Regis, and the foodie haven, River Cottage, is even closer.

We love this home’s wonderful terrace overlooking the town and Lyme Bay – it’s the perfect place to relax with family and friends. Inside, there’s plenty of room for entertaining and all of the bedrooms are en-suite. There's also an open fire for when the Dorset weather turns chilly. The location is excellent too – this home is in the centre of Lyme Regis, close to pubs, restaurants, cafes, and shops. Take a stroll along the Cobb overlooking the harbour – it’s within walking distance or spend the day on the golden sands of the town’s beach.

Inside, underfloor heating means you'll be toasty warm no matter the weather, while floor-to-ceiling windows ensure guests enjoy a splendid view from every corner of the home. Food is important to your chef host, so despite the compact size of the kitchen it contains everything you could need. We'd definitely recommend sampling charcuterie made from his rare breed pigs and you'll be supplied with farm fresh eggs on arrival. Charmouth Beach is ten minutes away by car and is the perfect place for a paddle. Hunt for fossils and skim stones, marvelling that this little haven is in the UK. The farm is only five miles inland from the sea, tucked away in between Dorset and Devon’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty – keen walkers will be in heaven. 

After a long day of hiking and paddling, it’s a real treat to watch the sun begin to set over the cow meadow. Pour a glass of wine and admire the views that stretch all the way to Somerset. Later on, sitting around the fire pit, you’ll spot bats swooping through the trees above you. House martins and swallows nest around the farm, too, and you may also spot foxes, hedgehogs, badgers and roe deer. Rare orchids and meadow flowers bloom in the pastures surrounding the home, adding a sweet aroma to the country air. 

This is a perfect sanctuary for two – you’ll never want to leave.
