Wake up to the sound of the waves every morning with a stay in this seaside retreat. You can also enjoy impressive views across Cobb Harbour and the beach from the private roof terrace. Inside, the rooms have been lovingly restored while retaining a wonderful sense of heritage and character. It’s worth noting the stairs are steep and the two pull-out beds in the living room are best suited to children, but this is a wonderful option for families. Plus, it’s just a short stroll into the heart of Lyme Regis.

We love the bright and cosy living space back home. It's the ideal remedy after a day in the fresh air – and the glimpse of the sea from the kitchen window is a nice touch. The cherry on top is the enclosed garden, where you and your four-legged friends can enjoy dinner and drinks as the sun goes down.

This sweet home is all about the views. It's blessed with unbelievable panoramas across the sea from the south-facing garden and the huge bay window in the living area, so no matter the season, you'll always be able to watch the waves. 

Based in the fishing harbour of Seaton, the home is set back a couple of roads away from the sandy seafront and esplanade. The town boasts mouthwatering traditional eateries (fish and chips on the beach are obligatory), a retro games arcade, cafes, and antique shops with the most incredible finds. 

Once you've fully explored Seaton, make the 1.5-mile trip to the picture-perfect town of Beer or drive a little over an hour to the wilds of Exmoor National Park – famous for its spectacular landscapes and picturesque walks. You won't soon forget the woodlands, coasts and rivers that make up this naturally beautiful part of the world. 

After long days spent eating local produce and exploring spectacular South Devon, recharge at home in front of the TV with a drink in hand, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

Anyone for a top-up of English sparkling wine? While you’re in here, pop the local station on the retro-style radio while you prepare a picnic to take to the beach later in the afternoon.

But before you head off, check out the upstairs. With warming colour palettes and soft furnishings throughout, comfort is easily achieved. There's also a quaint gravel garden – it's not the biggest, but it works well for sundowners on summer evenings.

Positioned on the edge of a historic, seventeenth-century farm, just a short way from Lambert’s Castle and five miles from Lyme Regis and Charmouth on the Jurassic coast, the area promises exciting day trips and outstanding natural beauty. Whether you’re after rural rambles or swimming in the sea, there's something to pique your interest. Inside, underfloor heating means you'll be toasty warm no matter the weather, while floor-to-ceiling windows ensure guests enjoy a splendid view from every corner of the home. Food is important to your chef host, so despite the compact size of the kitchen it contains everything you could need. We'd definitely recommend sampling charcuterie made from his rare breed pigs and you'll be supplied with farm fresh eggs on arrival. Each of the two bedrooms offers excellent views over the private Italianate courtyard and top lake that makes up part of the sprawling thirty-two-acre shared grounds, providing the ideal vistas to wake up to each morning. 

Enjoy breakfast in the traditional country kitchen before you head out for the day. Wander the acres of lawns, woods, and pasture, as you take a leisurely stroll around the lake with your furry four-legged friend, or venture to the nearby Honiton – a historic town packed with antique shops, and great bridleways for scenic walks. What’s more, Exeter – with its well-known racecourse and cultural centre featuring a beautiful cathedral – isn’t far away either. 

For dinnertime, return home, fire up the barbecue, and dine alfresco in the Italianate courtyard, which is accompanied by lake views. When the evening grows chilly, head back inside via the large wooden entry doors. Then, slip into the soothing waters with the Victorian slipper bath, or curl up on the sofa, cosy and warm in front of the electric wood-burning stove.

Tucked away at the edge of an expansive farm estate, the two glorious cottages and barn conversion have been lovingly restored and furnished with a contemporary flourish. Gather your ensemble for a feast in the grand mid-night blue dining area. The two living and dining rooms are bright and light, each with a wood burner and plenty of logs to keep things cosy. Each bedroom has been individually styled with a blend of navy and sage green walls, and you'll find modern up-cycled furniture throughout to make you feel like you’re in a boutique hotel. If you fancy a tipple, there's a well-stocked honesty bar. The cottages are set within three acres of private land made up of rolling green hills, flower-filled meadows and tree-studded, landscaped gardens. It's utterly idyllic and you’ll struggle to tear yourself away – but if you can muster up the energy, the bustling market town of Honiton is around six miles away, and Branscombe Beach is a thirty-minute drive from home.

Set in a row of Georgian houses on Sidmouth’s endless esplanade, there’s no better place to soak up the seaside than from this pretty apartment. Enormous sash windows reveal a balcony, ideally set up with a dining table for elevenses in the golden sunshine. Pour a glass of your favourite tipple to the sound of waves lapping the shore and caws of seagulls swooping overhead. Later on, when you’re ready for your lunch, fire up the barbecue on the terrace and prepare the catch of the day in the impressive kitchen. You’ll notice the interiors are tastefully decorated, with classic furnishings and quality linens to ensure unbridled comfort. After relaxing with a cup of tea on the plump sofas, put on your sun hat and mosey down to Sidmouth Town Beach. Roll up your trousers, pick your way across the pebbles and paddle in the brisk waters. If you’d like to expend a little more energy, embark on an eight-mile clifftop walk along the Jurassic Coast to the pretty village of Beer – country pubs with real ale and slap-up grub await.

Dating back to the Elizabethan era, this grand manor in the Somerset countryside is said to have inspired one of Jane Austen’s fictional stately homes. Across five acres of gardens and woodland, you’ll find vast lawns, furnished patios, an old tennis court and riverside walks with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It’s palatial inside with four reception rooms – grand wood-panelled lounges, lavish sitting rooms and a dedicated office for those working remotely. The kitchen is fit for banquet-sized meals, and there’s room for 16 in the formal dining room. Bedrooms feel fit for nobility with sleigh beds and four-posters, but quite a few guests will be sharing in threes and fours at full capacity.

The cabin is warm and welcoming, adorned with flowers from the farm, and boasting enough windows to flood the space with light. You’ll wake up each morning in the huge bed feeling rested, having enjoyed the kind of deep sleep you only get in the countryside. After a breakfast of fresh eggs, you’ll be ready to explore the area – and there’s plenty to explore. 

Charmouth Beach is ten minutes away by car and is the perfect place for a paddle. Hunt for fossils and skim stones, marvelling that this little haven is in the UK. The farm is only five miles inland from the sea, tucked away in between Dorset and Devon’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty – keen walkers will be in heaven. 

After a long day of hiking and paddling, it’s a real treat to watch the sun begin to set over the cow meadow. Pour a glass of wine and admire the views that stretch all the way to Somerset. Later on, sitting around the fire pit, you’ll spot bats swooping through the trees above you. House martins and swallows nest around the farm, too, and you may also spot foxes, hedgehogs, badgers and roe deer. Rare orchids and meadow flowers bloom in the pastures surrounding the home, adding a sweet aroma to the country air. 

This is a perfect sanctuary for two – you’ll never want to leave.
