If you love the thought of drifting to sleep while gazing up at the stars, this dreamy cabin could be the holiday home for you. The cabin is tucked away in a lush garden in a romantic setting that will make you instantly forget any of the worries of day-to-day life. It’s a studio-style cabin with one wall entirely made of glass, blending the interior and exterior. A skylight above the bed means you’ll go to sleep each night staring straight up at the stars. 

The cabin is based just outside of Launceston in Cornwall, close to the border of Devon. It’s brilliantly located for outdoorsy adventures, whether you’re keen on surfing or prefer to explore the countryside on foot. Dartmoor National Park is twenty-seven minutes away by car, with its wealth of wonderful hikes and cycling trails. You might take a day-trip to St Isaac to paddle in the sea and eat fish and chips and ice cream at the shore – it takes forty-three minutes to drive there, and it’s well worth the trip. 

After a day of exploring Cornwall and its gems, you can look forward to sipping wine on the terrace. Perhaps you’ll cook dinner on the barbecue before enjoying a relaxing bubble bath in the beautiful copper tub. Or to take the romance to the next level, you might soak in the hot tub under the stars. It’s impossible to leave here feeling stressed out.

Our Cabin

You'll find this bungalow tucked away behind a row of houses in a suburb of Bude. Crooklets beach, the nearest golf course and the town centre are all within a ten-minute walk, making this home a great base for exploring. While the interior is on the smaller side, it's plenty comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped for family meals. The patio and outdoor seating are ideal for quiet evenings, and the fenced garden is great for tiring out the kids.

Tinderbox Haven

This place had us on those sweeping countryside views alone – it’s just green paddocks and rolling valleys for as far as the eye can see. And that was before we’d even noticed that suntrap terrace with hot tub.

Set on a private estate made up of seven holiday cottages and a mere ten-minute drive from some of North Devon’s most picturesque sandy bays, it’s got family holiday written all over it. Splash about in the heated indoor pool. Let little ones burn off steam in the impressive play area (or indoor soft play and games room should the weather turn). Meet the estate’s farm animals (over fifty and counting) at feeding time. Grab yourself some ‘me time’ with an onsite yoga or aqua aerobics class. Or head off on an adventure with furry friends through the gardens, sunken lanes, meadows, and streams (perfect for little dam-builders) – there are sixteen acres to explore here.

When thoughts turn to food, pick your own at the estate’s kitchen garden and greenhouse then rustle up a bite to eat at home. Or grab something from the onsite honesty shop, stocked with frozen meals, BBQ packs from the local farm shop, and lashings of ice cream. Then all that’s left to do is put your feet up and hunker down at home. With its four-poster beds and flagstone flooring, this cute-as-a-button hideaway delivers all the cottage charms you’re chasing. 

Aylesbury Cottage

A vision of laid-back luxury, this beautiful boutique roundhouse is ready to welcome you into a world of complete rest and relaxation. A cosy open-plan layout creates a romantic first impression inside with a beamed vaulted ceiling topped with a skylight – ideal for falling asleep beneath the twinkle of the night’s sky. We love the kitchenette’s elegant blue cabinetry, while the bathroom’s stunning tiled shower and clawfoot tub invite endless pampering after a day in the great outdoors. Speaking of outside, this is where this home truly shines. The private hot tub beckons a starlit soak with a glass of bubbly, the daybed is ideal for sunny afternoons with a good book, and the table and chairs are ready to host alfresco barbecue feasts as you look out onto rolling countryside views. Away from your home, the seaside town of Bude is a twelve-minute drive away, the Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast is fifteen minutes away by car, while all around you, beautiful walking and cycling trails through the Cornish country wait to be explored. 


Roundhouse Rambles

Nestled on the North Cornwall coast, close to the Devon border, this stunning roundhouse offers an idyllic retreat far removed from the everyday hustle and bustle. 

Set just outside the surfing hotspot of Bude, this wooden roundhouse offers the excitement of camping with all the creature comforts of home. Spend sun-kissed summer afternoons tucking into relaxed lunches on the picnic bench and treating yourself to dips in the hot tub, equipped with a metal privacy screen so you can soak in peace.

Inside, the unique roundhouse design comes to the fore, with a well-equipped kitchen gently curving around the wall, a rustic round dining table, and a double bed set beneath a shining porthole skylight. Elsewhere, the roundhouse is equipped with one further bedroom and a sleek bathroom with a vast walk-in shower.

The site is equipped with a converted horse trailer turned coffee shop so you can dose up on caffeine as the kids help with feeding the farm animals. Your hosts are blessed with over a decade's worth of local knowledge and are more than happy to share their favourite local haunts with guests, so whether you're after a local butcher to stock up for a barbecue, a bougie brunch spot, or a great local pub, they've got you covered.

The Turn of the Tide

Sitting in the middle of a thirty-acre farm in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this barn conversion is a fittingly impressive home for such an idyllic location. 

There are plenty of spots from which you can gaze out at the pretty meadows, woodland and the banks of the River Tamar that surround the address, whether that's out through the floor-to-ceiling windows that line the main living space or while seated on the roof terrace bordered by a leafy pergola. However, the home's interior is well worth your attention, too. Certain features have been retained from the building's industrious past, including wooden ceiling beams and exposed stonework, but otherwise, the design is bright and contemporary.

The number of amenities available to guests distinguishes this home from the pack. Not only is there a homely wood-burning stove in the main space, but there's a games room with a ping-pong table and darts board in a section that was once a cattle shed, plus lots of equipment for outdoor games beside the forecourt and lawned area. Here you will find tables, benches and additional seating for your exclusive use and space to stoke up barbecues and challenge the group to a variety of games.

Elsewhere on the site, there are the ruins of a silver and lead mine accompanied by the pumping engine house and smithy, part of the industrial landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are other footpaths that lead off into the countryside, but you can also stroll down to the banks of the River Tamar, on which there's a two-hour window every day when it's safe to use it for water sports.

River To Sea

One glance at this thatched arts and crafts style cottage and you'll feel like you've stumbled into a fairytale. But instead of a faraway kingdom, you'll find this cosy homestead nestled in a quiet corner at the edge of Dartmoor National Park. It's the perfect place to escape to the country – one glance at those striking views over the Teign Valley from the private garden and you'll never want to return to the bustle of city life (we sure didn't). Inside, the magic continues, with an inviting sitting room perfect for family time and a country-style kitchen that has everything you'll need to rustle up a meal. We loved the welcome hamper – host Charles leaves bread, jam, local milk and even fresh flowers to make you feel right at home – and the delightful touches like board games and DVDs provide plenty of entertainment. Enjoy a family game night in front of the fire, curl up with a book in the cushy armchair or spend a chilled evening snuggled up with your favourite films. During the day, don your walking shoes and hit the nearby trails, then, following an afternoon of rambling, reward yourself with a well-earned pint at one of the local pubs. Or, if you'd prefer a bit more liveliness, Exeter is only a twenty-minute drive away.

Rock House Cottage

The brainchild of a celebrated interior designer, this North Devon townhouse has got it all figured out. Located a couple of minutes’ drive from Croyde beach, where you’ll spend long days surfing and soaking up the salty sea breeze, the inside of the home is beautifully sophisticated, with subtle nautical nods—we loved the knot wallpaper and delicate fish shoal light shade. The bunks in the children’s room will be a hit with mini swashbucklers, while the pizza oven on the patio should keep big kids quiet for a while. You’ll find the pretty village of Croyde a five-minute amble down the road, offering a charming selection of tea rooms, ice cream parlours and thatched pubs. After a hearty roast dinner, retreat home to the outdoor hot tub before turning in for the night in those luxurious king-size beds.

Aye-Aye Captain

Bursting with character, this cute-as-a-button barn conversion found on a forty-acre Cornish farm offers a real escape from the stresses of modern life. You'll have all the charming rustic touches you would hope for — exposed stone walls, a vaulted ceiling and a log burner — but there's a modern feel, and absolutely no chintz. You can slip into your own wood-fired hot tub just outside the back door, and the host has been thoughtful enough to provide a generous stack of logs to get you started. Meet the farm animals or set off alongside the private Nature Reserve to discover the private shingle beach on the River Tamar. Later, take advantage of some of the farm's other surprises — a communal games room with ping-pong, a shared tennis court, a hammock hidden away in the orchard, and a basketball hoop. With a number of extra activities also bookable, you can take part in a foraging workshop, try out stand-up paddleboarding or get involved in local wine tasting. Alternatively, you can drive to the port city of Plymouth in about forty minutes and visit the National Marine Aquarium.

Apple Bobbing

Rose Cocoon is a rural retreat with antique furnishings and stunning surroundings. Nestled alongside the barns and farmhouse of host Victoria’s organic farm, it makes for a great nesting place after countryside walks, wholesome meals and boutique shopping at nearby Tavistock. The master bedroom features garden views and gorgeous natural light. The second bedroom is quiet and cosy with comfy beds and quality bed linen. The home’s wooden panelling and landscape paintings reflect the traditional English setting and create a homely environment, and the heated pool is the perfect place for relaxing.

Rose Cocoon

The perfect Cornish break is all about reconnecting with the great outdoors, and that’s what you get here. Whether you're planning a romantic coastal break or a family adventure, you can relax and unwind at this Mongolian-ger-style cabin. Handpicked furnishings allude to subtle industrial style, however, what wowed us are the modern amenities, delivering twenty-first-century comfort. Feel nice and toasty with underfloor heating and the cosy wood burner, while the kitchen is compact yet perfectly equipped. Make the most of the picnic table with alfresco meals at every opportunity, and if you are feeling adventurous you can even fire up the outdoor pizza oven. Once the sun goes down, sink into the wood-fired hot tub with a glass of bubbles and admire the stars. There's a nearby farm shop for freshly laid eggs and ground coffee, and a street food van on-site if you don't fancy cooking. If you do crave civilisation, this place is only a short drive from some of Cornwall’s best-loved beaches and the popular seaside resort of Bude.

Whale's Belly

A beautiful couples' retreat in the wilds of Cornwall, this stunning roundhouse is perfect for those looking to spend some quality time together. Set in its own private garden, we imagine you'll be spending most of your time outdoors during your stay. As lovely as the industrial-chic interior space is – the underfloor heating is an absolute delight – it's outside that really grabs your attention. Out here, you'll find a Scandinavian-style wood-fired hot tub, a covered alfresco kitchen and a fire pit that's perfect for cosying up around on cool, clear nights for a bit of stargazing. You can continue keeping an eye on the heavens once you retire to bed, thanks to the thoughtful addition of a porthole window at the top of the roof. Of course, you're welcome to make full use of the shared facilities, including the games, TV and treatment rooms, an outdoor pizza oven and a communal campfire. So, whether you're sinking into the hot tub for a relaxing soak, cooking a meal on the barbecue for a long alfresco lunch, or reading a book by the wood-burning stove, embrace the chilled-out pace of life at this glamping retreat.
