Wander the acres of lawns, woods, and pasture, as you take a leisurely stroll around the lake with your furry four-legged friend, or venture to the nearby Honiton – a historic town packed with antique shops, and great bridleways for scenic walks. What’s more, Exeter – with its well-known racecourse and cultural centre featuring a beautiful cathedral – isn’t far away either. 

For dinnertime, return home, fire up the barbecue, and dine alfresco in the Italianate courtyard, which is accompanied by lake views. When the evening grows chilly, head back inside via the large wooden entry doors. We love the cosy feel of the living space, especially the characterful window seats. And the location? It’s ideal for exploring. Lyme Regis Front Beach is a fifteen-minute stroll away, and the town's shops and eateries are nearby, too.

We think that this charming cottage looks like something out of a fairytale. Nestled on a quiet lane in the pretty village of Branscombe, it's a dreamy place to spend a few days alone or with your favorite person.

The interior is cosy and welcoming, with fabulous views of the rolling countryside from the windows. You’ll need to take care with the steps and uneven ground here, and because of the desirable location, you may hear a little noise during your stay. But, we think you’ll be too busy soaking up the fresh sea air to notice. The key thing that caught our eye here is the secret passageway to the beach – so stroll down to the sea, after which, a plethora of beachfront eateries await ready to serve up an authentic coastal dinner.

Good things come to those who wait. Four hundred years ago, this cottage was a barn, but it has recently been converted to become the picturesque dwelling you'll find today. Tucked away in three acres of idyllic land, it's surrounded by wildflower meadows, rolling green hills and beautifully landscaped gardens in the heart of Devon’s glorious countryside. If you’re looking for somewhere totally private yet utterly indulgent, this is it. The interior has some grand original features (wooden beams, vaulted ceilings and a cosy wood-burner with an abundance of logs) as well as thoughtful, modern design touches (bold geometric-print cushions, sage green walls, upcycled furniture and industrial-style wall lamps). We don’t say this lightly, but a perfect night’s sleep is all but guaranteed thanks to the exceptional quality bedding (which has the same thread count as the sheets used at The Dorchester Hotel) and a cocktail or two courtesy of the honesty bar. Hic. The spectacular craggy coastline of south Devon is half an hour's drive away, while the bustling market town of Honiton takes about half that time to reach.

On the dramatically named Jurassic Coast, you’ll find the towns and beaches are less about dinosaurs and more about fascinating geology. However, as this home in the town of Beer is just ten miles from the Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in Lyme Regis, you could incorporate a touch of these ancient giants into your stay. Otherwise, you’ll be enjoying local beaches, antique stores, and craft galleries – and true to its name, Beer also has a selection of cosy pubs.

While we’re on the topic of the high street, it’s only fitting that your apartment is housed in a former shop. The cute exterior still has the large bay windows where stock would have once been displayed, but nowadays it’s a space for relaxation rather than retail. 

We love the way the front door opens right into the living space, making you feel welcome right away. A colourful Persian rug and a squishy leather sofa, laden with pillows, both set the tone for a comfortable break. Pour yourself a glass of pinot noir and take a seat by the windows – you’ve got fantastic views of St Michael’s Church across the road. Elegant, airy, and sophisticated, you’ll love being the shopkeeper of this apartment.

Say hello to peace, privacy and picturesque views at this stunning 17th-century cottage squirrelled away in the east Devon countryside. A former barn that has been lovingly transformed into a stylish yet homely retreat, the traditional features – think a flickering wood burner, exposed beams and a vaulted ceiling that makes for a striking focal point – mixed up with trendy and modern flourishes.
