Relaxed and comfortable, this Poole home makes a fuss-free base for a Dorset adventure. It's spread over three levels, and the top-floor suite boasts views across the harbour to Brownsea Island – imagine waking up to that each morning. Downstairs, the kitchen has all you need to rustle up the catch of the day while the electric fire keeps things cosy on chilly evenings. Come summertime, the private patio is the perfect spot for dinner and drinks in the sunshine. Location-wise, Poole Quay and the docks are just a short walk away. Further afield, yet within easy reach by car, are Bournemouth and Sandbanks Beach.

Golden Quay

Beyond the idyllic blue and white façade of this gatehouse cottage in historic Wimborne is a modern home equipped for families, friends and special occasions. While it retains many period features it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Splashes of colour – lemon and jade in the kitchen, bedrooms painted in pastels, and a burgundy dining room – characterise each space and set the scene for fun reunions and get-togethers. With seven bedrooms, a games room and a hot tub, the home is totally geared towards sociable occasions. Share stories beside the log burner, watch movies on the 75-inch TV and when the children are in bed, sink into the bubbling hot tub – just don’t forget to chill the champagne first. When you tire of home cooking, Wimborne’s restaurants, pubs and shops are only a five-minute walk away, as is its famous church. Dorset has inspired the likes of Thomas Hardy and Enid Blyton – carve out your own story on rural walks and cycle rides, or spend whole days exploring the Jurassic Coast or Bournemouth’s child-friendly beaches, which are all within a 30-minute’ drive.


English Rose

This Southbourne home is a bit special. The beach is just a short walk away, which also means you can enjoy wonderful views here – there are 180-degree panoramas of the Isle of Wight, Sandbanks, and Swanage, which can be enjoyed from the balcony. If you’re not a fan of sandy feet, you can cool off in the private pool instead – and there’s a hot tub for relaxation. Kids will love the games room, which has an eaves room above it equipped with beanbag beds for fun sleepovers. There’s plenty of parking, which makes staying here all the more convenient. 

The Seaside Tale

Only a couple of blocks from bars and eateries, this modern home places its guests beside Bournemouth Beach. You'll receive a thoughtful welcome hamper upon your arrival, offering slippers and teatime treats. Don't fancy sipping sundowners on the decking? Hang out in the games room instead. There's even Netflix and a PlayStation here. As for practical bonuses, the twin beds can be set up as doubles. With an EV charger, Dorset road trips are on the cards via the easily accessible A338 dual carriageway.

Bournemouth Blue

Perfectly positioned a five-minute walk from Whitecliff Harbourside Park and a ten-minute drive from the centre of Poole, this family abode guarantees a fuss-free stay at the coast. For catch-ups over cups of tea and hunks of Dorset apple cake, the bright kitchen-dining space is the ideal spot – get comfy on the armchairs or pull up a seat at the table. If the weather is on your side, spill out into the garden to lunch alfresco followed by a snooze in the sunshine from the comfort of the hammock. Then grab the beach gear provided by your host and jump in the car to Canford Cliffs Beach, just seven minutes from your door. After a paddle in the brilliant blue waters and a stroll along the sands, enjoy a well-deserved ice cream from the kiosk and a crisp pint in the nearby pub. And when it’s time to call it a day, your cosy lounge with wood-burning stove is a delight to come home to.

White Water-Lily

Expect cosy sumptuousness at this 18th-century cottage in the heart of Wimborne. Impeccably dressed, the interiors are a cohesive blend of modern and traditional – think licks of Farrow & Ball paint, reupholstered vintage furniture and plenty of mod-cons to make your stay a cinch. Downstairs, there’s a fully-equipped kitchen with gorgeous garden views, and an inviting living space – we loved curling up on the squashy sofas with a slice of your host’s homemade cake and a hot cup of tea on blustery afternoons. 

Upstairs, two quaint bedrooms ensure a good night’s sleep. You’ll find the third bedroom outside in the shepherd’s hut – it’s an idyllic little cabin with its own log-burning stove to keep you toasty on chilly evenings. 

Step out of your front door and you’ll find a number of indie shops, restaurants and cafes less than five minutes from your abode. If you’re keen to explore a little further afield, the golden beaches at Bournemouth are reached in twenty-five minutes by car. Or why not visit the famous Durdle Door? The natural limestone arch is a forty-five-minute drive away and is a must-see while in the area.

Damson Cottage

Everything about this architect-designed home maximises its stunning sea views and beachfront setting. Floor-to-ceiling windows guarantee you'll never miss the coastal sunsets. Outside, the lookout on the roof deck is the perfect spot to perch with a glass of wine and watch the waves. All bedrooms boast views of their own, but those lucky enough to claim the main suite will enjoy the best vistas – not to mention his-and-hers dressing rooms, two en-suite bathrooms, a sitting area with a bar, and access to a private terrace. We're also big fans of the games room, gym, and private lift. Last but not least, there's the location. Sandbanks Beach is on your doorstep, with central Poole a twenty-minute drive away.

Wave Watchers

Set just a short stroll from Westbourne’s upmarket high street and only a five-minute drive from the golden sands of Bournemouth Beach, this modern maisonette offers a prime location for both coast and town. Exploring further afield along the coast or inland to the New Forest is a breeze, too, with private parking for two cars outside. However, you may be tempted to linger on the private decked terrace back at home instead. Surrounded by pine trees and strung with festoon lighting around a fire pit, it’s a fine spot for alfresco evenings. Inside, alongside the two elegant bedrooms (each with a private bathroom) upstairs, there’s also a sofa bed in the living room downstairs – perfect for families looking for a more flexible set-up.

Coastal Castle

While it may be a stretch to say that you'll be praying for rainy days here, the wealth of amenities at guests' disposal at this remarkable home will certainly lift moods when skies turn grey.

All tastes and persuasions are catered to behind the home's four walls. In the pool house, there's a gym for the fitness fanatics and a billiards table for pool sharks, while the main house has a dedicated cinema room for gathering everybody together in front of a blockbuster, plus a trio of rather elegant freestanding bathtubs that are begging for a long soak. Even the basics are extraordinary, the super-stylish open kitchen and dining room in particular.

Of course, you're also well covered for options when the sun makes an appearance, thanks to the heated swimming pool that sits in the middle of the garden, along with the trampoline and alfresco lounge. And that's not forgetting the fact that Branksome Beach lies less than ten minutes' walk from the home, too. Don't be so quick to start that rain dance.

Sparkling Elderflower

If you’re on the lookout for a chic seaside pad for a family gathering, it’s here. This four-bedroom home stands on a leafy street, seven minutes from the sea, within easy walking distance of Ashley Cross village. 

There is bags of space inside and out. On sunny days, throw open the double doors from the lounge into the sprawling enclosed garden. Here the kids can frolic on the lawn while the grown-ups set the world to rights in the sunken hot tub or sauna. 

The kitchen is big and kitted out with everything you need. It’s a great vibe here. We love the odd pop of statement wallpaper here and there. 

Spend days discovering the local beaches. Head to Sandbanks, Flaghead Chine and Branksome Chine. Each has a private beach hut with a stove, deck chairs and games which you're welcome to use for a small fee. They belong to the host so feel free to claim them for your entire stay. The local town has plenty of top-rated restaurants. Or burn off some energy in Poole Park where there are 110 acres of walking trails, lakes and woodland.

Colour Pop

Looking for a beach holiday without the swarms of tourists? This is the perfect place. Located just minutes from Boscombe Beach and a short drive from Bournemouth, you're expertly placed for days lounging on by the water. 

Whilst the beach isn't completely private and secluded, it maintains a peaceful ambiance at all times. Lay your towel on the golden sands and enjoy an afternoon of sunbathing, punctuated by refreshing dips in the sea. If you wanted refreshments, many bars, restaurants and shops line the coastline. 

When you're out for the day, make sure to pick up some meats, vegetables and drinks to enjoy on the terrace. Sizzle the food on the BBQ and share your tipple of choice for a romantic evening. The experience is made more magical if it's illuminated by the gorgeous tones of sunset. 

For the nights when you just want to relax indoors, the stylish living space is a restful haven. Snuggle up on the sofa, entertained by a film on Amazon Prime, or just chat away on the dining table. There's also a dedicated workspace if you wanted to check some emails before bed.
