This luxurious home has starred in magazine and TV ads but there's no need to worry, there's as much substance as there is style. A home built to be lived in, it perfectly blends opulent furnishings and on-trend design with everything you might need to make for a comfortable stay. The high-end kitchen is the heart of the house, with sliding doors opening up onto an outdoor terrace – just perfect for an evening soiree. The living room has an open fire at each end, and the host has provided plenty of logs to keep you toasty during winter stays. Upstairs, the master suite is a delightful space, with a free-standing tub, powerful shower and cloud-like bed. The guest shower room doubles up as a steam room for that 'spa-at-home' feeling. But our favourite spot is the basement, playfully kitted out and complete with a comfy, oversize sofa and TV screen. Outside, there's even a small pool to dip in and out of on hot summer days. But we guess you're likely to be headed to the beach. It's just a seven-minute walk to Southbourne's, or a fifteen-minute drive to Bournemouth's main sands.

This home’s location is hard to beat, we think. The River Stour is just 100 metres away, with a public slipway from where you can launch kayaks and boats. Bournemouth’s Blue Flag beaches are a short walk away, too. That’s if you can tear yourself away from the gardens which extend to half an acre. There’s a pond, a large lawn, a barbecue and a patio area, as well as a trampoline. Inside, there are several sitting rooms (one with an open fire) and a garden room. This place is perfect for a family or group of friends looking to get the most out of Dorset.

This Southbourne home is a bit special. The beach is just a short walk away, which also means you can enjoy wonderful views here – there are 180-degree panoramas of the Isle of Wight, Sandbanks, and Swanage, which can be enjoyed from the balcony. If you’re not a fan of sandy feet, you can cool off in the private pool instead – and there’s a hot tub for relaxation. Kids will love the games room, which has an eaves room above it equipped with beanbag beds for fun sleepovers. There’s plenty of parking, which makes staying here all the more convenient.

With an EV charger, Dorset road trips are on the cards via the easily accessible A338 dual carriageway.

Forget about beach life for a second and head further up into town, where you’ll find this luxurious flat just ten minutes from Bournemouth train station on foot. In an Edwardian building, this refurbished home is a distinguished and elegant base for exploring the delights of Dorset. We love the fabulous living space – antique and vintage furniture meets modern, industrial pieces in this eclectic room. The brick fireplace features a funky mirror in its hearth, the Ziegler rug plays host to a mid-century leather Barcelona chair and footstool, the white Chesterfield sofa and regency chaise longue are perfect for relaxing, and the reflection of the black wire chandelier can be seen in the ornate gilded mirror. You’re sure to be charmed by this home of sophisticated and exquisite contrasts. On a sunny morning, wake up to light from the huge, bay windows and head out for a wander. You’ll hit the beach in under thirty minutes, but we recommend taking the long way through town to discover cool local shops and great restaurants on Charminster Road. Further afield, the scenic New Forest is half an hour away in the car, and the exclusive Sandbanks peninsula can be reached in twenty.

Just steps from Charminster High Street, this ground floor flat is brimming with Victorian character. It's a lovely red-brick townhouse, with plenty of historic charm to admire – think high ceilings and picture rails, ornamental ceiling roses, tall skirting boards and large bay windows flooding the rooms with light. Though it's on the smaller side, it's been well-designed to maximise the space – we think it's perfectly suited to a couple after a romantic escape. Read the morning paper in the plush armchair, help yourself to a selection of cereals and teas at the rustic breakfast bar or unwind after a busy day with a movie night in the cosy living room. The kitchenette is more suited to light bites than extravagant meals, so in the evenings you may want to dine out – there's an array of cafes, pubs and restaurants in Charminster to choose from. Bournemouth town centre and its sandy beaches are a twenty-five-minute walk (though we recommend driving), or venture a little further and enjoy a trip to the Jurassic Coast, famous for its fossils – you can be there in under an hour.

If the view of the sea from this beachy Bournemouth home doesn’t grab you, then perhaps the ten-minute stroll to the beach and promenade will. It’s also a short walk from the town centre, where you’ll find seafood restaurants, shopping streets and beachside cafés galore. The entire ground floor is dedicated to open-plan living and socialising in a light and breezy fashion. Driftwood sculptures and duck-egg accents complement the otherwise pristine white design. Gather the group for breakfast in the big kitchen where bench seating offers an informal place to dine. Squashy armchairs and a huge sectional sofa provide a place for the whole family to hang out in the evening. On the lower ground floor, you’ll find a second, smaller kitchen and another living room for the group to spread out. Bedrooms are split over the first and second floors where pastel hues and beachy flourishes are sure to send you off to sleep dreaming of the sea.

Where do we start with this home – both the apartment and the location are excellent. Firstly, it’s just a 50-metre stroll across West Cliff Green to the beach steps making this the perfect base for a family-friendly holiday by the sea. There are an array of restaurants and bars within walking distance whilst Bournemouth Pier and the town centre are also accessible by foot. We love the sea views from this place’s private garden and who wouldn’t want to dine or relax in the light-filled conservatory? If you’re a group of eight, then two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living space, but it’s a spacious room. What a great find this is.

This former hotel sits in the heart of Bournemouth. Perfect for large groups and events, there’s plenty of space for entertaining across the large living and dining room. The bedrooms offer a quiet space to rest and recharge and they all come with en-suite bathrooms. There’s also a wonderful garden with a hot tub and outdoor seating – perfect for lazy summer afternoons. By day, you can stroll to the nearest shops, cafes and restaurants. It’s also just a short drive to the New Forest National Park and Purbeck Hills.

With plenty of space to spread out, this ground-floor apartment in an Edwardian home near Westbourne is a fantastic base to return to after a day at the beach. Having a private entrance and garden ensures you have all the privacy you need here, plus private parking is a real premium in this area during the summer months. Although there's room for six, we think the main bedroom is better suited to two adults and two children, while the second bedroom is ideal if you're travelling with another couple. When it's time to explore, you'll find the beautiful sandy beach of Alum Chine just 350 metres away, whilst a 15-minute walk will get you to the eclectic mix of boutiques, cafes and bars of Westbourne and its beautiful Victorian arcade.

With such a wonderful location, we don't blame you for spending your days exploring. But for those seeking a bit of R&R, this house is the ideal choice. As soon as you walk through the door, you'll notice the relaxed ambience and seaside-inspired design. It's spread across three floors, so there's space for everyone. The kitchen is well-appointed for family dinners, while a small garden out back has sundowners and barbecues covered. Topping it all off, your host can arrange a hot tub for an additional fee – the perfect ending to a day on the coast.

Back home, there are all the cottage-core essentials, including a wood-burning stove for winter nights and a fire pit and barbecue out on the private terrace for summer evenings. Set in the heart of the New Forest National Park, this charming cottage is just a five-minute drive from the pretty village of Burley with its quirky shops, pubs, and tea houses and a twenty-minute drive to the coast. Inside this home, a wash of soothing sage and neutral tones blends with slate flooring and quality furniture to create a house full of character and style. Fully kitted out with families in mind, the hosts have thought of every last detail. There's a playroom brimming with toys and books to keep the kids amused, and they'll love the bunk beds upstairs in the light-filled bedrooms. For the adults, a slipper bath is waiting to unwind in, and there's a wood-burning fire for curling up beside in the evenings.
