An elegant apartment by the sea, this home in Swanage is just a few minutes' walk from the seafront. Set in an attractive Victorian building, it's a perfect retreat for a couple or a solo traveller, and with its period features and Boho styling, it's bound to appeal to the romantic in you. 

Tall ceilings, sash windows, oak floorboards and chandeliers are the order of the day here, along with all-white decor and pops of colourful modern art. There's a squashy sofa in the cosy living room, and a well-kitted-out, modern kitchen if you'll be cooking at home. But it's the bedroom we really love here, with its vintage rattan headboard and French vintage furniture.

The location is perfect for exploring on foot – pubs, eateries, shops, and seaside walks are within easy reach. Back home, you'll find five comfortable bedrooms, though some have limited headroom due to sloped ceilings. The bathrooms are also a tad snug for taller guests. That said, there's a bright first-floor living area where everyone can chill out together, as well as a ground-floor main suite with its own small patio. Two pups are also welcome to tag along – now that's coastal fun for the whole family.

Where do we start with this home – both the apartment and the location are excellent. Firstly, it’s just a 50-metre stroll across West Cliff Green to the beach steps making this the perfect base for a family-friendly holiday by the sea. There are an array of restaurants and bars within walking distance whilst Bournemouth Pier and the town centre are also accessible by foot. We love the sea views from this place’s private garden and who wouldn’t want to dine or relax in the light-filled conservatory? If you’re a group of eight, then two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living space, but it’s a spacious room. What a great find this is.

With plenty of space to spread out, this ground-floor apartment in an Edwardian home near Westbourne is a fantastic base to return to after a day at the beach. Having a private entrance and garden ensures you have all the privacy you need here, plus private parking is a real premium in this area during the summer months. Although there's room for six, we think the main bedroom is better suited to two adults and two children, while the second bedroom is ideal if you're travelling with another couple. When it's time to explore, you'll find the beautiful sandy beach of Alum Chine just 350 metres away, whilst a 15-minute walk will get you to the eclectic mix of boutiques, cafes and bars of Westbourne and its beautiful Victorian arcade.

Stood within the grounds of a working lighthouse and surrounded by a country park and the vast sea, this cottage delivers quite a setting. Arrive at night, and the lighthouse's beam will guide you in. Although you'll be pleased to hear the fog signal is long gone –⁠ so nothing could disturb your sleep here. A home for all seasons, enjoy the summer sun on the nearby beaches or snuggle up beside the fire to witness dramatic storms in winter months. Set off the beaten track –⁠ no amenities are within walking distance, so you'll need a car. But with Swanage town centre just two miles away, the bustle is never too far away.

The Lighthouse Keepers

Stood within the grounds of a working lighthouse, the setting of this traditional cottage is postcard-perfect. While the fog signal is long gone, the beam of this lighthouse still shines bright at night – an impressive sight to see while stargazing from the shared gardens. It’s worth noting that with nothing but the deep blue sea and a country park for miles around, you’ll need a car here. Though if you fancy a change of scene, the seaside town of Swanage is just a three-mile drive away.

Families and groups of friends will love all the sociable spaces here, but you can take some time alone in the snug too. When you’re ready to explore, you’ll find Durdle’s Door, Corfe Castle, and the seaside town of Swanage to be a short drive away.

Nestled in the beautiful maritime surroundings of Poole Quay, this home is a real gem in a corner of England that is often overlooked for popular seaside destinations such as Cornwall and Devon. Situated on the fourth floor, this stylish apartment boasts stunning 180° panoramic views over Visitors Marina, Brownsea Island and Purbecks beyond. One of the best things about this home is its proximity to southeast beaches. Sandbanks is the pick of the bunch, and it only takes sixteen-minutes by car. When you're feeling hungry, there are a lot of great places to discover within walking distance. Take a four-minute scenic stroll along the harbour to Quayside, where you'll find a variety of restaurants, pubs and wine bars. You can't come here and not sample the fish & chips either! We recommend the fourteen-minute walk to Lakeside Fish & Chips for some hearty, traditional grub.

It’s also a short walk from the town centre, where you’ll find seafood restaurants, shopping streets and beachside cafés galore. Just steps from Charminster High Street, this ground floor flat is brimming with Victorian character. It's a lovely red-brick townhouse, with plenty of historic charm to admire – think high ceilings and picture rails, ornamental ceiling roses, tall skirting boards and large bay windows flooding the rooms with light. Though it's on the smaller side, it's been well-designed to maximise the space – we think it's perfectly suited to a couple after a romantic escape. Read the morning paper in the plush armchair, help yourself to a selection of cereals and teas at the rustic breakfast bar or unwind after a busy day with a movie night in the cosy living room. The kitchenette is more suited to light bites than extravagant meals, so in the evenings you may want to dine out – there's an array of cafes, pubs and restaurants in Charminster to choose from. Bournemouth town centre and its sandy beaches are a twenty-five-minute walk (though we recommend driving), or venture a little further and enjoy a trip to the Jurassic Coast, famous for its fossils – you can be there in under an hour.

While it may be a stretch to say that you'll be praying for rainy days here, the wealth of amenities at guests' disposal at this remarkable home will certainly lift moods when skies turn grey.
