This charming apartment is ideal for romantic getaways, and equally well suited to solo stays by the sea. We love the traditional beams and cosy, homey vibe. You’ll feel at home the instant you arrive at this stylish abode. Best of all, the apartment boasts sea views. Wake up each morning to see the sea rushing ashore. Step out onto the balcony to sip your morning coffee, and breathe in the sea air. The blue-tiled kitchen is a lovely spot for your meals, whether you’ve whipped up a cooked breakfast or are unwrapping fish and chips for your evening meal. 

It’s just a short walk down to the beach, where you can build sandcastles, skim stones, or even try out the surf. Saltburn is also home to the UK’s oldest functioning cliff lift – enjoy the ride down to the promenade. Built in 1862, this character-filled home that was once a stable boy's accommodation is now a cosy and atmospheric 21st-century getaway. We love every irresistible inch, from the light-filled skylights and gorgeous sea views down to the glossy parquet floor. The sumptuous master bedroom is so stylish, it's hard to believe it's all upcycled from cladding and roof joists, and the master bathroom is even better. Relax with a soak in the lavish free-standing bathtub or rinse off under the rainfall shower. The living area is warm and incredibly comfortable. In the mornings, open the bi-fold doors and sip your coffee on the Juliet balcony, watching the ocean waves from the floor-to-ceiling windows. After a tasty breakfast rustled up in the blue kitchen, head up to the roof terrace to soak up the sunshine. Decked out with lush greeny and a barbecue, you'll want to spend every minute you're not at the beach sitting up here, enjoying alfresco meals and sipping cocktails as the sun sets over the water. Speaking of the sea, it's just a five-minute walk down to the beach or into town, where you can snack on fish and chips and grab a pint at one of the local pubs. Thanks to its prime coastline location and eclectic history, Whitby has been drawing in tourists for hundreds of years and if you're tempted to pay a visit, this home is a great base from which to explore the Yorkshire town.

Rather ironically, it's what lies outside that makes this apartment special – gaze out through the windows and you're treated to a sublime view of the North Sea. There's also a private balcony just off the kitchen in case you fancy starting the day with coffee and the sun on your skin – can't we be optimistic?

There's also a lot to like about the interiors, too. The design in the living room is a quirky mix of vintage and contemporary, as seen with the tan leather sofas sitting underneath a grand chandelier. You'll find the kitchen to be decently enough sized for bouts of home cooking and there are no complaints about the minimalist bedrooms, either.

So, what's there to do nearby? Well, quite a lot as it happens. West Cliff Beach and the promenade are about five minutes' walk from the front door, while the famed Whitby Abbey and 199 steps are just over twenty minutes away on foot, crossing the River Esk in the process.

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). After a lunch of fresh seafood, head to the Whitby Abbey, a fourteen-minute walk from Whitby Beach, to visit the renowned ruins that inspired Bram Stoker’s gothic novel Dracula.

Back home, take in the tranquillity of the secluded escape by sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee. Watch the breeze play through the line of trees surrounding you as you catch up on your favourite podcast. We recommend, at least once, sitting out here to watch the sun rise or set, maybe even both. Once you've wandered about this home nestled away in the North Yorkshire countryside for the first time, it probably won't come as a surprise to learn that it was once a hotel. The vast size of the building and its grounds partially give the game away, but there's also something about how the communal areas are arranged, especially the pool table and bar that make it an especially sociable space.

You'll also get a sense of the home's heritage pretty quickly as well. Located on a farm that dates back to the 18th century, there's a strong rustic charm throughout the interior, from the wooden ceiling beams and stone archways to the open fireplace that's wonderful to retire next to after a long bout in the great outdoors.
