Fit for a family on a getaway to the sea, this charming apartment in Filey has everything you'll need. We love the sleek grey kitchen and the sumptuous L-shaped sofa, in particular. Spend lazy days playing board games and watching films on the smart TV, savouring a cup of hot cocoa or a steaming coffee from the Nespresso machine when you need a pick-me-up. Both bedrooms are comfortable and ooze coastal charm, while the bathrooms are glossy and stylish, complete with rainfall showers. But our favourite bit of all is the excellent location. You're only a five-minute walk away from Filey Beach, so pack a towel, grab an ice cream and while away afternoons on the sand. If you're in the mood for a walk, the Cleveland Way starts here – lace up your shoes and trek along the coastal path. And there's no better way to end the evening than with a pint and a delicious meal at one of the many pubs in town – most of which are within walking distance.

Not only is the location excellent – right in the heart of Filey, only a five-minute walk from the beach – but the mod-cons are pretty great, too. Everything you'll need is taken care of, so all you have to do is sit back and relax. The grey colour scheme is slick and modern, especially in the kitchen – with plenty of counter space, appliances and crockery, cooking is anything but a chore. But when you don't fancy whipping up something, there's a great collection of restaurants, pubs and cafes on your doorstep, plus plenty of shops, boutiques and activities to keep you entertained. Enjoy a morning stroll along the statue-lined promenade or grab a towel and sprawl out on the huge stretch of sand at Filey Beach.  But if you prefer a more active holiday, Filey is at the start (or end) of the Clevland Way, which promises fresh air, coastal trails and beautiful views of the ocean.

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

Built in 1862, this character-filled home that was once a stable boy's accommodation is now a cosy and atmospheric 21st-century getaway. We love every irresistible inch, from the light-filled skylights and gorgeous sea views down to the glossy parquet floor. The sumptuous master bedroom is so stylish, it's hard to believe it's all upcycled from cladding and roof joists, and the master bathroom is even better. Relax with a soak in the lavish free-standing bathtub or rinse off under the rainfall shower. The living area is warm and incredibly comfortable. In the mornings, open the bi-fold doors and sip your coffee on the Juliet balcony, watching the ocean waves from the floor-to-ceiling windows. After a tasty breakfast rustled up in the blue kitchen, head up to the roof terrace to soak up the sunshine. Decked out with lush greeny and a barbecue, you'll want to spend every minute you're not at the beach sitting up here, enjoying alfresco meals and sipping cocktails as the sun sets over the water. Speaking of the sea, it's just a five-minute walk down to the beach or into town, where you can snack on fish and chips and grab a pint at one of the local pubs. Shopaholics can browse Saltburn-by-the-Sea's independent boutiques, keen hikers can walk along the Cleveland Way or for a more leisurely pace, just stroll along the Victorian pier, relishing in the salty sea air.

You'll hear the occasional cheer from the terraces of the nearby football club. Still, its family-friendly atmosphere on match days makes it an ideal candidate for a first football match, with little worry about the outlay when your children inevitably grow bored around fifteen minutes in. 

After catching a snippet of the game, enjoy an afternoon stroll southwards along the dramatic coast towards the historic seaside spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea with its iconic cast iron pier stretching 208 metres out to sea and its Grade II-listed cliff lift.

Once you've wandered about this home nestled away in the North Yorkshire countryside for the first time, it probably won't come as a surprise to learn that it was once a hotel. The vast size of the building and its grounds partially give the game away, but there's also something about how the communal areas are arranged, especially the pool table and bar that make it an especially sociable space.

You'll also get a sense of the home's heritage pretty quickly as well. Located on a farm that dates back to the 18th century, there's a strong rustic charm throughout the interior, from the wooden ceiling beams and stone archways to the open fireplace that's wonderful to retire next to after a long bout in the great outdoors. 

Speaking of which, there's a whole host of amenities on the grounds for when the forecast is being kind to you. As well as a large lawn and lots of equipment for playing games, there's plenty of seating for alfresco feasts, as well as a hot tub that's an idyllic spot for a nightcap, especially once the stars are out in the sky.

In the local area, there's a wealth of attractions to be discovered, from the Victorian spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea just two-and-a-half miles away to the Cleveland Way National Trail, which can be reached on foot and rewards those that follow the path with views of the dramatic coastal landscape.

The Victorian spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea makes for an excellent seaside escape. It’s a real coastal retreat, surrounded by charming seaside towns and villages – you can use Saltburn as your base for exploring the area. 

This charming apartment is ideal for romantic getaways, and equally well suited to solo stays by the sea. We love the traditional beams and cosy, homey vibe. You’ll feel at home the instant you arrive at this stylish abode. Best of all, the apartment boasts sea views. Wake up each morning to see the sea rushing ashore. Just as the seemingly limitless panorama of sky and sea on North Yorkshire's coastline feels bright and invigorating, so too does the interior of this home found close to the River Esk. In the open kitchen-living area, a glass roof and large windows on either side fill the space with natural light, which is accentuated by the reflective surfaces on the minimalist kitchen and the stark white walls. In one of the bedrooms, there's even a Juliet balcony that looks out to a peaceful field and distant rooftops. Throughout the rest of the house, there are plenty of contemporary design touches that have us nodding our heads in approval, from the mid-century furnishings in the living room and the elegant freestanding bathtubs to the patterned floor tiling in the hallway. The local neighbourhood has a residential feel, but all of Whitby's attractions sit within walkable distance. If you’d like a peaceful stay in the Yorkshire countryside, while still being within easy reach of the fun-filled Yorkshire coast, this home offers the perfect sanctuary. Located in the little village of Brotton, just a short drive from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, this characterful cottage has loads of traditional features that make it feel homely and quaint, such as the exposed beam ceilings, ornate wooden furniture and chintzy soft furnishings. It also sits in a private garden where you can listen to birdsong on crisp dewy mornings, and find a bit of peace and quiet amongst the trees.

Start each day with a good book in one of the two sunrooms, and let the light flood in through the glass walls. Head into the large, country-style kitchen, and cook up a full English breakfast. Tuck in alfresco on your patio dining set, while you discuss the day’s itinerary. Head to Saltburn Beach for a paddle in the waves, or head into Brotton for a pint in a classic village pub. When you return, light up the wood burner fireplace and cuddle up on the sofa with a glass of wine, before falling into your big cosy bed, ready to do it all again the next day.

This cosy house is perfect for family breaks to the seaside. It stands on the edge of East Cliff, just a ten-minute walk from Whitby’s town centre and its narrow medieval streets lined with pubs, shops and comfy cafes. You can walk easily to the west side of town, where you’ll find the Blue Flag West Cliff Beach and its brightly coloured beach huts. Add in the wonderful Whitby Abbey and its rich history, and you’ll never be short of things to see and do here. 

The house itself is warm and welcoming, with heaps of space. It’s an excellent choice for a big group of friends or a couple of families travelling together, as there’s plenty of room for everyone. We love the balcony that opens out from the living room – it boasts gorgeous views of Whitby and its harbour, and is the perfect spot for a morning cuppa. Later on in the day, you might pick up takeaway fish and chips to unwrap on one of the picnic tables on the terrace. It’s a lovely way to round off a day at the seaside.

Thanks to its prime coastline location and eclectic history, Whitby has been drawing in tourists for hundreds of years and if you're tempted to pay a visit, this home is a great base from which to explore the Yorkshire town.

Rather ironically, it's what lies outside that makes this apartment special – gaze out through the windows and you're treated to a sublime view of the North Sea. There's also a private balcony just off the kitchen in case you fancy starting the day with coffee and the sun on your skin – can't we be optimistic?

There's also a lot to like about the interiors, too. The design in the living room is a quirky mix of vintage and contemporary, as seen with the tan leather sofas sitting underneath a grand chandelier. You'll find the kitchen to be decently enough sized for bouts of home cooking and there are no complaints about the minimalist bedrooms, either.

So, what's there to do nearby? Well, quite a lot as it happens. West Cliff Beach and the promenade are about five minutes' walk from the front door, while the famed Whitby Abbey and 199 steps are just over twenty minutes away on foot, crossing the River Esk in the process.
