Both bedrooms are comfortable and ooze coastal charm, while the bathrooms are glossy and stylish, complete with rainfall showers. But our favourite bit of all is the excellent location. You're only a five-minute walk away from Filey Beach, so pack a towel, grab an ice cream and while away afternoons on the sand. If you're in the mood for a walk, the Cleveland Way starts here – lace up your shoes and trek along the coastal path. And there's no better way to end the evening than with a pint and a delicious meal at one of the many pubs in town – most of which are within walking distance.

Sleek and contemporary, this coastal apartment is an ideal seaside retreat for two. Not only is the location excellent – right in the heart of Filey, only a five-minute walk from the beach – but the mod-cons are pretty great, too. Everything you'll need is taken care of, so all you have to do is sit back and relax. The grey colour scheme is slick and modern, especially in the kitchen – with plenty of counter space, appliances and crockery, cooking is anything but a chore. But when you don't fancy whipping up something, there's a great collection of restaurants, pubs and cafes on your doorstep, plus plenty of shops, boutiques and activities to keep you entertained. Enjoy a morning stroll along the statue-lined promenade or grab a towel and sprawl out on the huge stretch of sand at Filey Beach.  But if you prefer a more active holiday, Filey is at the start (or end) of the Clevland Way, which promises fresh air, coastal trails and beautiful views of the ocean.

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

Thanks to its prime coastline location and eclectic history, Whitby has been drawing in tourists for hundreds of years and if you're tempted to pay a visit, this home is a great base from which to explore the Yorkshire town.

Rather ironically, it's what lies outside that makes this apartment special – gaze out through the windows and you're treated to a sublime view of the North Sea. There's also a private balcony just off the kitchen in case you fancy starting the day with coffee and the sun on your skin – can't we be optimistic?

There's also a lot to like about the interiors, too. The design in the living room is a quirky mix of vintage and contemporary, as seen with the tan leather sofas sitting underneath a grand chandelier. You'll find the kitchen to be decently enough sized for bouts of home cooking and there are no complaints about the minimalist bedrooms, either.

So, what's there to do nearby? Well, quite a lot as it happens. West Cliff Beach and the promenade are about five minutes' walk from the front door, while the famed Whitby Abbey and 199 steps are just over twenty minutes away on foot, crossing the River Esk in the process.

This charming apartment is ideal for romantic getaways, and equally well suited to solo stays by the sea. We love the traditional beams and cosy, homey vibe. You’ll feel at home the instant you arrive at this stylish abode. Best of all, the apartment boasts sea views. Wake up each morning to see the sea rushing ashore. Step out onto the balcony to sip your morning coffee, and breathe in the sea air. The blue-tiled kitchen is a lovely spot for your meals, whether you’ve whipped up a cooked breakfast or are unwrapping fish and chips for your evening meal. 

It’s just a short walk down to the beach, where you can build sandcastles, skim stones, or even try out the surf. Saltburn is also home to the UK’s oldest functioning cliff lift – enjoy the ride down to the promenade. Later on, stroll along the 208-metre-long pier with an ice cream – we do love to be beside the sea.

It stands on the edge of East Cliff, just a ten-minute walk from Whitby’s town centre and its narrow medieval streets lined with pubs, shops and comfy cafes. You can walk easily to the west side of town, where you’ll find the Blue Flag West Cliff Beach and its brightly coloured beach huts. Add in the wonderful Whitby Abbey and its rich history, and you’ll never be short of things to see and do here. 

The house itself is warm and welcoming, with heaps of space. It’s an excellent choice for a big group of friends or a couple of families travelling together, as there’s plenty of room for everyone. We love the balcony that opens out from the living room – it boasts gorgeous views of Whitby and its harbour, and is the perfect spot for a morning cuppa. Later on in the day, you might pick up takeaway fish and chips to unwrap on one of the picnic tables on the terrace. It’s a lovely way to round off a day at the seaside.
