Recently refurbished, there's a bit of a natural connection going on in the interior design of this home in the village of Stamford Bridge. As well as house plants dotted liberally about the place — often in unique pots — we spotted an array of woven furnishings and artwork dedicated to the great outdoors. We should also mention the actual outdoors space at this point, too. Step out the back door and you'll find a patio with alfresco seating and a barbecue, which will both come into their own on summer evenings. This overarching theme feels apt given the beautiful countryside within easy reach of the property. The charming Fairy Sanctuary attraction at Northwood Trail is only eighteen minutes away on foot, while the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty takes about the same amount of time in the car. If you fancy a day in town, however, the centre of York is only a twenty-five-minute drive.

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

We're pretty sure that you won't find many cottages cuter than this. Built at the backend of the eighteenth century, this traditional weaver's house is Grade-II listed and you can see why. Inside, the wooden ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and stable door are full of rustic charm, while a log-burning fire and antique furnishings add an extra level of cosiness. To the side of the home, there's a patio area complete with alfresco seating where you can enjoy a coffee and the surrounding tranquillity of West Yorkshire. Fans of Last of the Summer Wine — one of the longest-running sitcoms in the world — will love walking around the local town of Holmfirth where it was filmed. If you did want to explore the undulating hills of the Yorkshire Dales, they're under half an hour away. You can take a few days to master the hillside or simply just spend an afternoon amidst the sea of green. 

Of course, you don't have to visit them at all – various walking trails decorate the landscape near your home. Simply set out in the mornings to discover the local rural charm.

When you're out in the nearby towns and villages, make sure to stop off for a quick pint at the cosy pubs. You can also find a selection of cute shops and authentic stores selling clothes, food and souvenirs. 

Once you're back at the home, snuggle into its tranquil comfort. Catch a film on the TV, sit out on the garden table with a cup of coffee or just read a book on the rustic bench. Picturesque and peaceful, it's an idyllic spot in the heart of the rural North of England.

Add in the proximity to Whitby's other hotspots – be it the Church of Saint Mary, whale-watching boat tours, museums and the Cleveland Way – and this pocket-sized pad is a perfect fit for a couple on a seaside getaway.

Thanks to its prime coastline location and eclectic history, Whitby has been drawing in tourists for hundreds of years and if you're tempted to pay a visit, this home is a great base from which to explore the Yorkshire town.

Rather ironically, it's what lies outside that makes this apartment special – gaze out through the windows and you're treated to a sublime view of the North Sea. There's also a private balcony just off the kitchen in case you fancy starting the day with coffee and the sun on your skin – can't we be optimistic?

There's also a lot to like about the interiors, too. The design in the living room is a quirky mix of vintage and contemporary, as seen with the tan leather sofas sitting underneath a grand chandelier. You'll find the kitchen to be decently enough sized for bouts of home cooking and there are no complaints about the minimalist bedrooms, either.

So, what's there to do nearby? Well, quite a lot as it happens. West Cliff Beach and the promenade are about five minutes' walk from the front door, while the famed Whitby Abbey and 199 steps are just over twenty minutes away on foot, crossing the River Esk in the process.

In the heart of Pickering, this stone charmer is just a six-minute walk from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Inside, wooden beams and ornamental fireplaces reflect the home's 200-year-old history, while two cosy lounges – including one with a log burner – provide plenty of space to sprawl out. We're especially fond of the rear garden, which is a sweet spot to enjoy a morning brew or an alfresco G&T. A huge perk is that this pad is pet-friendly, welcoming one well-behaved dog to join in on the fun. Despite the plain bedrooms and basic bathrooms, overall, we think it's a good option for families keen to explore North Yorkshire.

Although this wooden lodge sits in the middle of a leafy caravan park in the North Yorkshire countryside just outside of Whitby, there's nothing temporary or makeshift about the living quarters. In fact, there's a contemporary style and enough high-quality amenities that would see it slot quite easily into the swishest of city neighbourhoods.

The double-height windows in the living room do a brilliant job of bathing the interior in natural light, as well as offering peaceful views of the surrounding trees. This architectural feature makes the communal space a lovely spot for relaxing, whether that's cuddling up next to the wood-burning fireplace or cooking up something hearty in the super-sleek kitchen. 

If you're paying a visit during the warmer months – or you just want to emulate the hardiness of local Yorkshire folk during the colder seasons – you can make the most of the home's private terrace complete with seating. There are also plenty of walking routes and historic attractions in the surrounding North Yorks Moors National Parks, as well as the village of Egton and its pub lying within walking distance. The quirky seaside town of Whitby takes less than a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, too.

This home in Egton is the perfect compromise between seclusion and a beach holiday. With only six miles separating you from the seaside town of Whitby, you can easily take a quick road trip to spend the day on the sandy shores of West Cliff beach. Whilst there, be sure to walk the promenade for a gorgeous view of the Church of Saint Mary and try your hand at the claw machine in the pier arcade.
