We love the exposed wooden beams and the wood-burning stove in the living room. This semi-detached cottage has two bedrooms – the second is compact with a small double bed, so it's ideal perhaps for the kids. There’s also a front terrace to relax in after a long walk with the dogs or a visit to the local pub, one-minute away. There’s no shop in the village, but there's a grocery store in Fairford, a five-minute drive. Other attractions in the area include historic Cirencester, Burton-on-the-Water, Burford and the Cotswold Water Park.

Sunny Cottage

Dating back to the 17th century, this cottage is perfect for those looking for a slice of idyllic living. Based in the village of Stanton, you've got the Cotswolds on your doorstep here, ideal for intrepid explorers. At home, you'll find historic features alongside modern touches – we were particularly fond of the original inglenook fireplace and the kitchen's skylight. After a hike, you'll want to relax in the freestanding bathtub before enjoying a barbecue out in the garden. Alternatively, head to the nearby pub or cook up a roast in the well-equipped kitchen.

Seeing as Sudeley Castle Cottage is right next door, visiting the beautiful castle grounds will be easy, and thanks to your hosts, you'll also get free admission to the castle and its beautiful gardens. Staying in this fairytale cottage offers you a taste of the high life and a gorgeous view of the green rolling hills and unspoiled landscapes. The fresh decor complements vaulted ceilings, flagstone floors, barn doors and oak beams, while the snug sitting room hosts a log burner and the general feel of bucolic cosiness. Reached via the stunning glass-paned walkway, each bedroom has its own stylish design, complete with an en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet. One en-suite has a delight of a free-standing bathtub, another almost feels like a woodland sauna. Socialise in the large country-style, open-plan kitchen and dining area, with top-of-the-range appliances to make life that little bit easier. Outside, the courtyard’s comfortable seating and peaceful surroundings invite you to fire up the gas barbecue and while away the evening. Or enjoy your morning coffee in the lush gardens before a day of exploring – it's just a short drive to dozens of Cotswolds villages. Drive to the achingly quaint market town of Chipping Norton in just thirty-seven minutes with nearby Hook Norton offering great local beers from one of the area's most popular breweries – it's always worth a visit. This home could not be better located. Right in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold, you'll be mere moments away from the village's tea rooms, shops, and restaurants. With a provided parking space, you'll also be able to explore further afield – just note that it's only suitable for compact vehicles. The design back home is contemporary yet cosy. Everyone can relax together in the open-plan living space, while the two en-suite bedrooms offer privacy. There's also a small terrace ideal for summer sundowners – or better yet, head to the pub up the road for a nightcap.

Stow's Secret

One look at the rolling Painswick Valley views on the horizon from the outdoor seating area, and you'll understand why this cottage made it into our English collection. Tranquil, because of its secluded spot, the house boasts traditional wooden beams, a farmhouse kitchen and a wood-burning stove and pairs it with modern elements. If the large garden doesn't keep the little ones entertained – unlikely – there's also a games room with table football, but they might need help up and down the steep stone staircase to get there. Location-wise, you're near Stroud's renowned Farmer's Market, while Cheltenham is just a 20-minute drive away.
