If you’re in search of an easygoing Cotswolds getaway, this home makes a great option. You’ll find it’s just a short drive or bus ride into the heart of Gloucester city centre, while Cheltenham is also within easy reach. There is a large private garden and the open-plan living room and kitchen lends itself perfectly to social gatherings. It’s worth noting this home isn’t suitable for infants or children, but we think it makes a great spot for a refreshing adults-only escape.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

With countryside walks on your doorstep and many Cotswolds attractions within driving distance, this is a desirable place to be – and we absolutely adore this cottage, which is smack-dab in the centre of town. Once an antique showroom, this inviting homestead is now filled with local artwork – including paintings by the host's grandfather – as well as The Cotswold Company furniture and every amenity you can think of. Snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner, challenge the family to a board game around the dining table or relax with a soak in the sumptuous master bathtub. The private courtyard is the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea or a cocktail in the sun. In the evenings, light the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal, gathering around the fire pit for toasted marshmallows when the air turns chilly.

Equipped with everything you could need to cook at home, the kitchen is lit by a huge ceiling lantern and a big window. Bedrooms are classic country style and we particularly love the freestanding bathtub in the main bathroom and the pretty bedroom on the top floor. The house shares a rear courtyard with some neighbouring properties but a large, private garden lies across the lane to the front.

Perfect for a rural escape, it’s close to the Cotswolds and the beautiful countryside of Gloucestershire. You’ll also be just a short drive from Gloucester, where you can shop, dine out, and visit the stunning cathedral. The stylish home features an attractive open-plan living and dining space, with a well-equipped, modern kitchen. There are two gardens, one with a front patio for dining in warmer months. Based in the village of Stanton, you've got the Cotswolds on your doorstep here, ideal for intrepid explorers. At home, you'll find historic features alongside modern touches – we were particularly fond of the original inglenook fireplace and the kitchen's skylight. After a hike, you'll want to relax in the freestanding bathtub before enjoying a barbecue out in the garden. Alternatively, head to the nearby pub or cook up a roast in the well-equipped kitchen.

Tucked away in the quiet Cotswold village of Nether Westcote, this 18th-century barn is a delightful escape just for two. The place is packed with original features, including timber beams and stone walls, creating a rustic yet homely feel throughout. We loved how the cosy seating area with log-burning stove opens up into a bright dining space – the perfect spot for cream tea on summer afternoons. When it’s particularly warm out, sit at the bistro set in the garden with a glass of your favourite tipple and a paperback pulled from the bookcase. 

Take a nine-minute drive to Stow-on-the-Wold for its popular Farmer’s Market or stretch your legs with a ramble to Bourton-on-the-Water – it’ll take you an hour-and-a-half by foot. But if you’d prefer to stay put, your host can arrange fantastic at-home experiences including cider tasting and cooking classes.

We love the warmth of the wooden panelling offset by the simple white floors, as well as the midnight blue walls courtesy of Farrow & Ball. The long, rustic dining table beckons celebratory meals and sets a tone of conviviality that is felt throughout, while a Czech pommel horse works as a coffee table next to a Victorian sofa, creating a blend of textures and eras that feels like a seamless step through history.  Factor in the industrial pendants hanging from the ceiling, not to mention the wonderfully comfortable bed dressed in Egyptian cotton sheets, as well as the gorgeous copper shower, and you’ve got everything you need for a singularly stylish stay. 
 
Your locale in the heart of the quintessential Cotswold village of Woodmancote makes it easy to explore this bucolic region, with countless picture-book towns and villages a short car journey away. And when it's time to explore further afield, jump in the car and you can be in the chocolate-box villages of Bourton-on-the Water and Stow-on-the-Wold in fifteen minutes flat. 

Back at this cosy home away from home, exposed Cotswold stone walls, higgledy-piggledy beams and a crackling wood-burning stove bring all the charm. While we liked the comfortable bedrooms and sparkling bathrooms, what really blew us away was the impressive kitchen and dining area. It's the true hub of the home, with plenty of room to cook and dine together. We can easily imagine mornings here, the French doors open wide as you sip coffee on the patio and tuck into a lazy breakfast around the dining table. We also loved the techy extras, like nest heating, electronic locks and Google Home Bluetooth speakers. With the occasional bleat from the neighbouring sheep your only distraction, it doesn't get much more charming than this.

A true recipient of the Plum Award, this home has also received the Green Tourism Silver Award, in recognition of this host's dedication to green initiatives such as energy and water efficiency and mindful waste reduction. Your host can share recommendations on local farmers markets and shops selling locally-sourced food, as well as eco-friendly activities such as cycling routes and nature trails to help you enjoy your stay in Chipping Campden, all the while reducing your carbon footprint. It's a win-win.

You'll have everything you need to rustle up something tasty in the kitchen. When you're ready to venture out, you'll find Chipping Campden, Stratford-upon-Avon, Winchcombe, and other chocolate-box hamlets within a thirty-minute drive.

It’s just footsteps away from this charming Cotswolds cottage –⁠ originally part of a paper mill on the vast estate. It’s worth noting there’s only one family bathroom here. And if we were being picky, the outside shared courtyard isn’t the most inspiring space. But with five award-winning gardens and a castle to explore (you’ll have complimentary access), we don’t think you’ll mind. After a little more bustle?
