Formerly the stables for a nearby manor house, this exquisitely renovated home, dating back to the year eighteen-twenty-five, exudes rural charm from the outset with its honey-hued stone facade. Step inside and discover an open-plan canvas of lofty ceilings adorned with timber beams and ample windows ushering in floods of sunlight. If the large garden doesn't keep the little ones entertained – unlikely – there's also a games room with table football, but they might need help up and down the steep stone staircase to get there. Location-wise, you're near Stroud's renowned Farmer's Market, while Cheltenham is just a 20-minute drive away.

Once upon a time, this quaint cottage was actually a barn used to store grain. Since then, it has been lovingly renovated into a dainty holiday home perfect for a small family getaway. Situated on the owners' farm on the outskirts of Cheltenham and close to the village of Shurdington, it's right on the edge of the Cotswolds. The velvet sofas and original wooden beams create a cosy atmosphere which is enhanced when you light up the wood-burning stove on chilly evenings. There's also a private garden where you can grill up a feast to share at the alfresco dining area. Exploring the surrounding countryside is easy from here, whether you're planning to travel on foot, by car, on a bike or even by horseback – that's right, for an additional fee, you can rent a neighbouring stable for your steed. Cheltenham Racecourse is just six miles away, while the charming towns of Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury are both less than a twenty-mile drive from your front door.

If it’s a calming country escape that you’re after, this glorious Gloucestershire bolthole is your golden ticket. Just six miles south of pretty Cheltenham and set right in the heart of the Cotswold Way, when it comes to wonderful walking routes and picture–perfect scenery, you’d struggle to find anywhere more ideal.

Outside, there’s three quarters of an acre of land across three gardens, offering plenty of space to enjoy the sunshine during the warmer months. Oh, and did we mention that there’s a private pool and hot tub, too? When temperatures soar, pop on your favourite swimwear and dive into its cooling depths for an instant refresh from the scorching sunshine.

For those visiting during autumn and winter, the pool might be off–limits, but there’s still plenty to be enjoyed. With beautiful beamed ceilings, oak floors and sumptuous soft furnishings peppered from room to room, wherever you choose to unwind, you’re sure to feel snug as a bug. For us, it’s the large open fireplace that really sets the scene. We can see it now – all cosied up in our best pyjamas with a hot mug of cocoa and a good book…perfection!

We’re sure you’ll be in no rush to dash out, but with lots to see and do right on your doorstep, a little venture into the open air is sure to do you good. Fancy a bite to eat? Head to The Royal George Hotel, Birdlip, just 1.5 miles away. Or perhaps it’s some shorter, family–friendly walks you’re hoping for? Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

Deep in the heart of the Cotswolds, we found this idyllic home to be an ideal setting for a romantic escape. Both Glouster and Cheltenham are a short drive away, but beautiful nature, picturesque villages, and country pubs accessible via cross-country walks are the main draw here. As it's an annex, you won't be completely secluded outside, but the home is yours alone and has a private entrance. While there are plenty of welcome authentic touches – especially the wooden lintels and exposed brickwork – the sloping ceiling in the bedroom might inconvenience taller guests.

Take a day trip to villages a stone's throw away and see the landmarks more locally, starting with the St. Mary's churchyard right across the road. At home, kids will love the swimming pool whilst parents take advantage of the seating for drinks.

Sitting on the edge of the Cotswolds, the place is a heady mix of new styles and old traditions: from horse racing to Jazz, Science and Music festivals, plus a burgeoning food scene – people flock from far and wide to sample this quintessentially English town. And your apartment, overlooking Clarence Square, slots in seamlessly. There’s an understated elegance to the interiors – the tones are muted and well-considered to create a space that’s both sophisticated and inviting. While you already have everything you need to ensure a blissful stay – the kitchen’s fully equipped and the super king size bed is absurdly comfortable – your host is on hand to make it that bit more special with a choice of optional extras. Perhaps you’ll pick the breakfast hamper, or if your team’s in the playoffs, go for the Sky Sports package. When it’s time to explore, Pittville Park is a ten-minute walk away for morning strolls that clear the cobwebs and picnics when the weather is nice. Montpellier, the smartest part of town, with tasting menu restaurants and farm-to-table eateries, is only a twenty-minute stroll from your doorstep.

This charming barn conversion is quintessentially Cotswolds, with a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and flagstone floors. A self-contained annexe, attached to the host's home, you'll find this cosy spot in a pretty village just ten-minutes' drive from Cheltenham. Inside, the old blends with the new, thanks to underfloor heating and a modern kitchen and bathroom. The ground floor space is open and sociable, and there's a garden room (which doubles as a second bedroom) opening to a lovely terrace with far-reaching views. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's a walker's paradise, and the home has paths that run from the rear to various trails, including the Cotswolds Way. A thirty-five minute walk will take you to a grand country hotel for lunch and it's just a little further to the pub.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

Set in the charming village of Prestbury, this country home makes a stylish base for exploring the Cotswolds. Inside, the vibe is bright and homely, with a sleek kitchen for relaxed meals and a living room with an open fireplace that invites long, cosy evenings. The honey-coloured stone buildings, wisteria-adorned doorways and misty green hills of pretty Painswick couldn't get more Hollywood movie set if it tried. In fact, this town is so disarmingly attractive that it's known as the Queen of the Cotswolds. Well, adjust your crown because we've got a very princely stay right here for you. This 16th-century cottage is in the heart of the town, opposite the legendary 99 Yew Trees Church with its magnificent yew trees – can you take a wild guess how many?

Once inside you'll feel like a modern-day Henry VII thanks to exposed stonework, regal purple sofas, aged wooden beams and hefty wooden beds. In the second living room you'll find an honesty bar where your host has thoughtfully provided a selection of spirits – all donations made by you for the drinks you make are given to Emmaus, a local homelessness charity.

Outside you'll find the very private, very sunny courtyard garden is a delight, with lush, mature trees and immaculately manicured shrubs creating that Hampton Court Palace garden feel - albeit on a much smaller scale. It's a right royal escape.
