With honeyed stone walls and a Grade II listed status, this bronze South West Award-winning traditional stone cottage is quintessentially Cotswolds. The exposed beams and inglenook fireplaces showcase the building’s considerable heritage (it dates back to 1670), but you’ll find plenty of modern comforts here, as well as cosy styling that favours neutral tones and natural textures. We love that it’s a home for all seasons — stride out on blustery walks in the winter months, before coming back to underfloor heating, a wood burner and thick goose down duvets. In the summer, the British countryside is arguably at its best and here you get access to a large birdsong-filled garden with plenty of shady spots for a gin and tonic. Stargazers are in luck here as there are no streetlights in the local village of Southrop and the Milky Way shines extra bright. And of course, what would a country getaway be without a nearby pub? The Swan can be reached in about three minutes' walk, although the Victoria Inn takes half an hour in case you fancy earning your pint.

When we think of the Cotswolds, we imagine honey-coloured, picture-perfect cottages in charming villages, and this home fits the bill. We love the exposed wooden beams and the wood-burning stove in the living room. This semi-detached cottage has two bedrooms – the second is compact with a small double bed, so it's ideal perhaps for the kids. There’s also a front terrace to relax in after a long walk with the dogs or a visit to the local pub, one-minute away. There’s no shop in the village, but there's a grocery store in Fairford, a five-minute drive. A mesmerising location, impeccable interior design and plenty of exciting things going on in the locale – this strikingly modern lodge perched on the banks of Bowmoor Lake, in the edge of the Cotswolds, seems to have all the luck. We don't think it's an over-exaggeration to say that this has to be one of the most remarkable homes in our collection. Perched on the banks of Huntsman Lake, you're never short of an exquisite view because the whole exterior is made of glass. Yes, that's right. The unique property was designed by the Dutch architectural firm Mecanoo and is full of luxuries and surprises.

Head up to the roof, for instance, where you'll find a huge terrace complete with a garden and a sweeping panorama of a further three lakes. Closer to the water, there's another decking area where you can relax on one of the loungers and watch the local birdlife.

The only place in the house which isn't treated to sights of the jaw-dropping scenery is down in the basement. Why head down here, you ask? Well, there's a nine-seater cinema, bar area, Jacuzzi, sauna and full-size snooker table. That's why.

Back upstairs, the interior design does its best to demand your attention against fierce opposition and succeeds at times with the bold modern artwork, designer furniture and staircase carved from a 500-year old tree from Slovenia. The kitchen is a thing of beauty too, with both tandoori and pizza ovens, plus a wine fridge — which the concierge will fill up upon request.

In a home that constantly manages to surprise, the fact that it has excellent eco-credentials is another string to its bow. A combination of an air thermal heat pump, solar panels, heat recovery systems and triple-glazed glass means that energy consumption is low, while the wood on the exterior uses the Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban for waterproofing, rather than chemicals. Venture outside in the summer and you can hire a boat or go wild swimming in the lake, or book a go on the zip-line and experience the landscape from a thrilling perspective.

Although you might think that it would be hard to beat the immediate surroundings when it comes to looks, the Cotswolds AONB can be reached in ten minutes' drive and has some pretty swoon-worthy views itself. The town of Cirencester only takes twenty minutes to reach in the car, too.

This Grade-II listed barn conversion offers everything you could want from a magical trip to the countryside and much, much more. The building has been owned by the same family since it was built in the 17th century, and you'll find a wealth of history here. There are plenty of traditional details, from the flagstone floors to the rustic wooden beams, but you'll also appreciate the modern touches, like the double-height glass windows that flood the dining room with light. You'll love serving up a traditional roast dinner at the table, which converts into a table tennis table for a post-meal game. Or, if it's a balmy evening, perhaps you'd like to fire up the barbecue and head out to the garden to dine alfresco (make sure you bring your own charcoal). A little path leads you from your private garden to the village playing field, and you might even see the local cricket team playing if you visit at the right time. Poulton also has a quaint pub which is just a few minutes away from your front door, and a pretty church to admire. The town of Fairford is three miles away, where you'll find a selection of shops, and the larger market town of Cirencester is a six-mile drive away. Spend your days touring the charming Cotswold villages, stopping off for afternoon tea as you go, before returning home to a roaring log fire at home. Don't forget to listen out for owls at night – there are a pair of little owls nesting nearby, and you might be lucky enough to hear them.

Location-wise, the estate is a sprawling 850 acres of woodland and meadows that you can explore on foot or by bicycle – perhaps plan a visit to the on-site spa post workout. Thrillseekers can paddleboard or fly high on a zip-wire through the treetops, and seeing as how you're in the heart of the Cotswolds, there's also an option of many day trips to quaint neighbouring towns.

From the outside, you’d expect Rosemary & Thyme to be a standard Cotswolds cottage, but once you’re inside it’s clear it’s something more. Walking through is like a tour of cultures and styles, from French farmhouse to Belle Epoque, and Rococo to Oriental. There’s a lovely garden, and a short drive away is the pretty town of Lechlade. Venture any further west, and you’ll be deep in rolling hills and villages that epitomise the Cotswolds, but with such an alluring home, you might not want to leave it.

If you're venturing out and about, Cirencester is just a fifteen-minute drive away, and the beautiful village of Bourton-on-the-Water, known as 'the Venice of the Cotswolds', is just a little further.

Combining a traditional stone exterior with a renovated interior, we found this former barn to be the perfect base for relaxing after an excursion into the Cotswolds. With a twin room that can be turned into a double, the home is ideal for both families or two couples. We love how cosy the living area is, with underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove being an antidote to any bracing weather outside. When it's sunny, the enclosed garden is great for games and letting the kids tire themselves out. Further afield, you'll find plenty of Cotswold villages accessible by foot.
