Further afield, nearby Cirencester is dotted with historic pubs and charming country boutiques and is just twenty minutes by car. The facilities are just a minute’s walk away and when you’re not enjoying a sauna or workout in the gym, you can savour the peace and quiet from your private deck, overlooking a small lake. We love the panoramic windows here which make the most of the water views, and with table football and a communal outdoor play area, kids are well catered for too. While you’d be forgiven for not wanting to leave the estate, if you do decide to venture out you'll discover lots of traditional Cotswold villages just a short drive away.

Dating back to the 1880s, this former barn now provides a beautiful countryside cottage experience for families exploring The Cotswolds. Though it's since undergone renovations, it takes pride in the stone floors, exposed walls and beams, adding character and charm to the space, even if the sloped ceilings mean taller guests have to watch their heads. At least there's no ducking outside where an expansive garden gives you more than enough space. You'll also find the seasonal swimming pool, fire pit, alfresco dining table and, if requested, a hot tub out here. As for location, you're within easy driving distance of Cotswolds treasures such as Tetbury, Malmesbury and Cirencester.

Seemingly plucked straight from a fairytale, this secluded, idyllic thatched cottage, originally built in 1624, makes a romantic nesting place for couples looking for a rural escape. Another favourite of ours is the gorgeous bedroom with its characterful beams, chandelier and free-standing bath, the perfect place for a soak after a long countryside walk. There are several gastro pubs within a ten-minute drive, or if you fancy exploring further afield, Cirencester and Tetbury are under fifteen minutes in the car. Alternatively, marvel at over two thousand different species of trees at the stunning Westonbirt Arboretum, just over a twenty-minute ride.

This lakeside home is surrounded by acres of nature reserve and miles of hiking trails. We think it's ideal for families – for an additional fee, furry friends are welcome and your host can provide a travel cot and high chair. The glass wall at the back of the house offers great lake views and natural light, but it does mean that some privacy is lost if you're spending time outside in the hot tub, or if you have the light on in the evening. You'll enjoy access to a range of onsite facilities though, from a spa and pool to a restaurant and shop, and you can explore the area by bike, on foot or even by canoe.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a cosier base than this – boasting a snug living room complete with soft throws and a toasty fireplace, this is the kind of place we all dream of coming home to after a chilly day in the English countryside. Warm up with a cup of tea on the sofa or head upstairs to the family bathroom for a relaxing bubble bath before drifting off to sleep in one of the cottage's quiet bedrooms.

The next morning, start your day with a breakfast of locally produced organic goodies from the local farm shop or – if the weather’s on your side – head out to the garden and soak up some sun. This is the perfect place for little ones and four-legged friends to roam but there’s plenty to explore in the local area if you fancy a change of scenery. Breathe in the sweet scent of lime blossom as you travel down the 800-metre private road leading out of the estate – with Westonbirt Arboretum, Berkeley Castle, and The Cotswold Water Park all within striking distance, you've got plenty of destinations to choose from so why not ditch the GPS and see where the day takes you?

Picture this: a beautiful Costwolds cottage with roses round the door and idyllic views over the neighbouring countryside. Set over three floors, this historic home retains heaps of character, with exposed stone walls and ancient wood beams, alongside contemporary alterations like a sparkling new kitchen and a glass panel staircase. Cosy and smartly furnished, the living room's feature fireplace has a log burner for warming up on winter evenings and leads through to a stylish dining space with log storage built into the wall. Equipped with everything you could need to cook at home, the kitchen is lit by a huge ceiling lantern and a big window. Bedrooms are classic country style and we particularly love the freestanding bathtub in the main bathroom and the pretty bedroom on the top floor. The house shares a rear courtyard with some neighbouring properties but a large, private garden lies across the lane to the front.

Surrounded by lakeside trails, rivers and acres of green space, this apartment set within a Cotswolds holiday park offers plenty of activity and relaxation, no matter which you’re after. Shared on-site facilities like an award-winning spa, several swimming pools and a restaurant allow you to dial into carefree holiday mode, while tennis courts, bike rental and a plethora of water-based activities (including paddleboarding and kayaking) ensure a dull moment is never had. The apartment itself is ideal for families given the bunk bed in the third bedroom. And a private deck means outdoor leisure is close at hand at all times.

It's worth noting, however, the main bedroom is located on the second-floor mezzanine, which is an open plan to the living area below. Plus, you'll have access to an on-site spa with swimming pools, a sauna, a gym, tennis courts and a restaurant, only a five-minute walk away.

Located in the charming market town of Cirencester, this Grade II listed cottage is the perfect base for a couple or close-knit group of friends looking to spend some time in the capital of the Cotswolds. Inside, it’s modern yet characterful – we loved the original timber beams, log-burning stove and charming spiral staircase that leads to the cosy second bedroom. Should you have some work to attend to, there’s an office space for you to set up your laptop. 

Wake up with a coffee in the quiet living space before putting together a tasty breakfast in the farmhouse-style kitchen. If the weather is on your side, spill out into the garden and finish cups of tea at the bistro set in the warm sunshine. 

Pull on your comfiest shoes and get to know your surroundings. You’re a seven-minute walk from the indie shops that cluster around Market Place and five minutes from the Barton Lane entrance of Cirencester Park – an excellent place to stop for a picnic. Take a dip in the spring-fed, open-air pool in the heights of the summer, follow bridleways that snake through the unspoilt countryside or jump in the car and spend an afternoon in pretty Bibury, a fifteen-minute drive away.

Come to an activity-driven nature reserve, where kayaking and bike rides await on private grounds. A minute's walk from Somerford Lagoon, this home sits amid a row of cottages sharing an orchard. While the living area is great for fireside relaxation, be careful not to bump your head on the sloped ceilings upstairs. Home chefs will love cooking up a storm in the fully-equipped kitchen, preparing delicious family dinner to share around the rustic dining table. When you're in the mood for a change of scenery, Cirencester is a ten-minute drive away and has a wealth of shops and restaurants. Right in the heart of Cirencester, this charming home provides a fantastic start to your trip to the Cotswolds. You'll find yourself immersed in local dining, shopping, and entertainment in the town centre a light stroll away, while the surrounding countryside is peppered with scenic walks and beautiful views for the more nature-inclined. The bed configuration here is super flexible, with both bedrooms able to be set up as twin or king rooms. This along with the sofa bed in the living room makes this home a great little nest whether you're travelling with kids or as a group of friends or couples.

The Farmers Gardens

Situated on an estate in the Cotswolds, surrounded by acres of nature reserve, this home is the perfect place to switch off after an afternoon of outdoor pursuits. The living space, complete with a wood-burning stove, opens onto a private, west-facing balcony where you’ll find a gas barbecue. Elsewhere on the complex, there’s an award-winning spa offering a selection of treatments and pools for relaxation. If you fancy venturing further afield, the market town of Cirencester is a fifteen-minute drive away.

This home is a lakeside retreat with a lot to offer. From the private deck with a hot tub to the wood-burning fire and luxurious rooms, every detail has been considered to inspire total relaxation. There’s also a private jetty for paddleboarding, kayaking and swimming. A first-floor flat found in a Cotswold Holiday Park, this functional home is ideal for families. While the decor is a bit too minimal for our liking, the balcony is a nice spot for a barbeque, and the two bathrooms make morning routines seamless. We were also pleased with the kitchen, which offers everything needed for extended stays. What booked this home's place in our collection though was its family-friendly activities – from the spa to indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts to nature trails, children and adults alike won't grow restless here. 

The Reed Hunter

Nestled on the shores of Howells Mere Lake and sitting within a Cotswolds holiday park, this home benefits from access to an array of shared facilities. You’ll be able to indulge in the outdoor eco pool, a spa with a range of treatments which can be booked in advance, as well as a gym and tennis court, among other features. The home has a private upstairs balcony, perfect for alfresco meals with lake views, in addition to a ground-floor deck. Huge picture windows are a nice touch too, allowing you to take in the lake views from the inside. Bear in mind that a car is recommended here to make the most out of your stay, although a bike is also a great way to discover the local area. 

Cotswold Clarity

This eco-friendly property is located within Lower Mill Estate in The Cotswolds. The holiday park is surrounded by acres of nature reserve and offers plenty of outdoor activities such as biking and paddle boarding, plus shared facilities like a swimming pool and spa. The home itself features open plan living/dining, a snug with a big TV and a full kitchen. Stepping through glass sliding doors, you’re on the terrace by the waterside with lounge furniture and a barbecue. The highlight is the rooftop terrace which is a real sun trap during the day and has views over the lakeside estate.

The Fields of Spring

A homely lakeside retreat, this two-storey home is an ideal base for a family who wants to be close to endless outdoor activities. What stood out to us was the deck – from breakfast to supper, you'll want to have all your meals alfresco here (weather permitting), overlooking the lake. In colder months, the fireplace and indoor dining table are nice touches, and the bedrooms are small but cosy. You can't grow bored here, either – the home provides access to the spa facilities in the nearby holiday park, along with its pools. There is also a wide selection of other recreational activities available for a fee – from bike rentals to paddle boarding.

Honeycomb Mint

If you’re in search of a serene retreat in the heart of nature, look no further than this cosy cabin. Sitting on the edge of Lake Pochard, you’ll be treated to beautiful views, a private terrace and a barbecue for outdoor dining. Inside, there’s a wood-burning fire for cosy evenings and all the home comforts you could need to settle in and unwind. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you and there are a range of extra services available – including massage treatments and organised experiences. Guests can also enjoy private coarse fishing on the lake and there’s plenty to explore in the surroundings. Plus, the nearest restaurant is just a short walk away.

Grab a glass of your favourite and sit out on the garden patio, which overlooks picturesque views of the verdant valley. In the mood for exploring? This location gives you easy access to countless walking trails, and when you’re not wandering the fields or following footpaths, there’s a host of traditional pubs and local restaurants to take your fancy. While you’re here, it’s worth visiting the nearby towns of Malmesbury and Tetbury – and check your calendar, maybe your stay overlaps with the famed Badmiton Horse Trials or Tetbury Woolsack Race.

This glass-fronted lodge is on a private estate with a wide range of facilities. Surrounded by acres of nature reserve, there are trails to hike and bike and lakes for watersports. The on-site spa has multiple communal pools, and you'll have your own hot tub and private balcony. The glass front of the home offers lovely views of Swillbrook lake and the stars at night from indoors, and plenty of natural light, though it does mean the home won't feel very private – we recommend bringing an eye mask for sleeping, as the main bedroom has no blinds.
