Though small, this bright garden annexe in Bosham is perfect for solo nomads and couples looking for a romantic coastal break. With a double sofa bed facing the wall-to-wall bi-fold doors, you can wake up to a green view of the shared garden. The kitchen, although not the biggest, has a coffee maker and everything you need for light bites to enjoy alfresco on the terrace. A short drive from Aldwick Beach, Portsmouth and Waterlooville Golf Club, there's a little something for everyone here.

The Dashing Prince

Designed by the owner who works as a professional interior designer, the vibe of this home merges contemporary comforts with quirky vintage kitsch, inviting guests into a unique space that escapes the mundane. The maximalist aesthetic retains many ornate Victorian features, while the home's furnishings carefully combine bold colours with rich textures. From the ruby red velvet couches to the olive green walls of the kitchen and dining space – this home presents bags of character inspired by the laid-back bohemian surroundings of the locale in Southsea.

Enjoy quiet moments outside on the stoned patio terrace garden – the outdoor seating provides the perfect setting for a warm cup of tea after a seaside walk over to Southsea Common, only a nine-minute stroll away. Positioned just one mile away from Gunwharf Quays and its outlet shopping, an abundance of shops, eateries and the cinema – there's plenty to keep you occupied when staying in this part of Portsmouth. After a day of shopping or relaxing on the beach, complete your quintessential British seaside experience by picking up some fresh fish and chips to serve up at the dining table, or if the weather is being kind – at the alfresco dining area in the garden. 

Ruby Woo

This remarkable country mansion has had quite the tumultuous history. The estate dates back to 961 and is listed in the Domesday Book. The land was once home to a priory for the monks of Saint Swithun, until Henry VIII appropriated it for his royal courtiers. For ten years, King Charles II took up residence here with Nell Gwyn and their children, and it continued to pass through the hands of the nobility in the proceeding centuries, gaining a reputation as a hedonists' paradise during that time. After a faithful restoration in the latter half of the twentieth century, it's now open to guests looking for a truly inimitable stay. As you can imagine, there's history at every corner, from the painted ballroom ceiling to the portraits hanging in the hallway. The main living room is a sight to behold, with shelves packed full of books, ornate chandeliers and a grand piano sitting at one side, and the huge banqueting room is equally spectacular. The bedrooms are divided into eight apartments and cottages, many with their own kitchens and living rooms for added privacy. Outside, there are expansive grounds to take a morning constitutional, as well as the River Itchen running through with a boat ready for a paddle. The historic town of Winchester is only twelve minutes away in the car, while the first station on the heritage Watercress Railway line can be reached in under ten.

Royal Rumble

Come for the countryside, stay for the drama. Set in the sprawling Wiltshire estate that once belonged to the twelfth Earl of Shaftesbury, this former riding house exudes the spirit of the original stables thanks to a meticulous restoration – modern comforts meet ancient artefacts and authenticity. It's one of those homes that takes your breath away from the second you open the front door. The owners have made no effort to cover up the fact it's from a bygone era – and that's why we love it, true to the past with period artwork, original features, beamed ceilings, even a banqueting hall for grand feasts (which feels very extravagant when you're having your cereal). The velvet furnishings and exposed brick only add to the step back in time. An honesty bar is housed in a secret cupboard by the billiard table, and there are floor-to-ceiling bookshelves where you can select a novel to lose yourself in. Each bedroom comes with a luxurious roll-top bath, and the wooden dividers that once separated horses have been cleverly repurposed to create privacy screens. Outside, vast acres of the manor's parkland are yours to explore, so remember to bring your welly boots. This home is a fine example of outstanding restoration – countryside lovers may never want to leave.

The Riding House

This characterful cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway. Set among 80 acres of vineyards, woodland, and fishing lakes, with views as far as the eye can see from the private patio, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to the country here. We love the unique features inside – like the circular-shaped lounge and curved staircase – and who could resist a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi bathtub? Location-wise, you’re perfectly placed for hikes and bike rides in the surrounding countryside and for adventures further afield, the market town of Farnham is 11 miles away and historic Winchester is a 20-mile drive.

The King's Gate

You'll find this 18th-century cottage in the heart of the South Downs, nestled on the edge of the illustrious Avington Park. Cosiness personified, the snug sitting room has a crackling wood-burner and squishy sofas that beckon for lounging, either with a glass of wine on chilly evenings or a good book on winter afternoons. A separate drawing room is a perfect spot to gather for family game nights, while the rustic kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up Sunday roasts to enjoy around the dining table. Upstairs, the three comfortable bedrooms promise a good night's sleep. Our favourite is the third bedroom, with its exposed beams and vaulted ceilings – it has two double beds, making it a great option for kids. 

If you're in the mood to pick up the pace, Winchester is a fifteen-minute drive and has a wide array of shops, restaurants and museums. Or take it slow and enjoy a ramble through the countryside, stopping for a pint and some pub grub at the country inns.

Autumn's Being

Surrounded by green fields and majestic trees, this Grade II listed cottage opens its doors to the endless charm of the English countryside. 

And anyone looking to experience the poetic romance of rural living will love this home. From the moment you open the wooden gate, you’ll want to pause and savour the beauty of the garden. There’s a quality of magic here that captivates the senses and invites you to keep exploring. 

Inside, the traditional features and elegant styling fill this cottage with warmth and comfort. It’s an intimate space perfect for families and friends to share quality time together. From cosy mornings in the kitchen to lazy afternoons curled up on the sofa, it’s easy to embrace the slow and gentle pace of village life. 

Stroll into Wilcot or weave your way through the beautiful Pewsey Vale – there are some wonderful walks along the Kennet and Avon canal. Or make the short drive to the historic market town of Marlborough where you’ll find great local shops and restaurants including Rick Stein’s – only ten–minutes away. 

As the day draws to a close, this cottage is the perfect place to relax with a candlelit dinner. Gather around the table and celebrate the joy of countryside living. 

The Melodic Garden

Nestled in the Sussex countryside, this 16th-century farmhouse boasts a sunny conservatory, a hot tub, and a private outdoor pool – a rare find for homes in this area. While it’s well set up for a family getaway, groups are not allowed here. The home comprises a main house and a separate annexe – with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living area – rented as one. The main kitchen has everything you’ll need to whip up a family feast, or if you want a night off catering duties, your host can arrange for a private chef to cook for you in the home. Location-wise, you’ll find historic Chichester and the nearest beach both a five-minute drive away.

Golden Dwelling

When we boast that this amazing home is beachfront, we really mean it, with direct access to Bracklesham beach via the garden, you really couldn’t get much closer. Wander along the pebbled shore with your four-legged friend and listen to the crunch of stones beneath your feet, brave a dip in the sea, or even challenge the kids to build sculptures from the stones. 

Built in the 1920s around a classic railway carriage, this home has been extensively modernised, and expanded over the years but still holds much of that original charm. We would love nothing more than to wake up here to the soothing sound of the waves and seagulls calls before enjoying breakfast on the balcony to truly admire the views. 

Spend the day relaxing at home, reading a good book on the terrace while the children entertain themselves in the playroom which is filled with kids’ books and toys, or taking a dip in the swimming pool. 

Head out for the day and visit West Wittering’s stunning Blue Flag Beach – a short six-minute drive away – for a sandy beach experience, and let the children play in the salty waves and build castles on the sand. Visit Chichester Cathedral – a twenty-seven-minute drive away, or spend a day at the races at Goodwood horse racing course or Goodwood Motor Circuit, reachable by car in twenty-nine minutes and twenty-three minutes, respectively. 

In the evening, dine together as a family, and then when the children are all in bed, why not end the day with a cool glass of wine on the balcony as you enjoy the outstanding sea views. 

The Shell Collector

With plenty of space to spread out, this ground-floor apartment in an Edwardian home near Westbourne is a fantastic base to return to after a day at the beach. Having a private entrance and garden ensures you have all the privacy you need here, plus private parking is a real premium in this area during the summer months. Although there's room for six, we think the main bedroom is better suited to two adults and two children, while the second bedroom is ideal if you're travelling with another couple. When it's time to explore, you'll find the beautiful sandy beach of Alum Chine just 350 metres away, whilst a 15-minute walk will get you to the eclectic mix of boutiques, cafes and bars of Westbourne and its beautiful Victorian arcade.

Escape To The Sands

Want to recreate a passionate escape à la Bridgerton - just on a much smaller scale? Then we think you'll fall in love with this home in a 400-year-old former gatehouse lodge. Part of the glorious 5,500-acre St Giles House estate, it's been personally and immaculately renovated by the estate's owner (real-life nobility Lady Shaftesbury) to stunning effect. The natural and historical character - original lead windows, log burner and dove grey stone slabs - pack a punch, but it's her Ladyship's keen eye for style that has elevated this home into a truly romantic stay. We're talking about bold splashes of colour (a vibrant coral in the living room and soothing forest green in the bedroom) plus beautiful illustrated artwork and the highest quality Egyptian cotton sheets. This rural location is the perfect place to hide away from the rest of the world, but if you tire of each other's company, the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, the New Forest and the classic British seaside resorts of Poole and Bournemouth are all within a short drive away.
