This is elegant, country living at its very best. Set in the heart of the New Forest National Park, this charming cottage is just a five-minute drive from the pretty village of Burley with its quirky shops, pubs, and tea houses and a twenty-minute drive to the coast. Inside this home, a wash of soothing sage and neutral tones blends with slate flooring and quality furniture to create a house full of character and style. Fully kitted out with families in mind, the hosts have thought of every last detail. There's a playroom brimming with toys and books to keep the kids amused, and they'll love the bunk beds upstairs in the light-filled bedrooms. For the adults, a slipper bath is waiting to unwind in, and there's a wood-burning fire for curling up beside in the evenings. The welcome basket is impressive, too – with a cheeky bottle of wine ready to enjoy once little ones are tucked up in bed. Outside at the bottom of the charming garden, there's a gate leading you into the woods with a babbling brook for splashing about with fishing nets. You may even spot wild ponies trotting by. Nestled away underneath an oak tree in the middle of the New Forest, this rural escape is as cute as they come. Inside the loft space, there's a rustic simplicity that manages to avoid back-to-basics territory. The living area, for instance, with its oak floor and a blue velvet sofa will see you through many a cosy evening, while the bedroom is given a bit of glamour with a sparkling chandelier. Outside, there's a small garden and patio complete with a barbecue for when the sun makes an appearance. When that's the case, there are plenty of outside excursions to embark upon nearby. Guests can start on forest walks straight out of the garden gate and it's possible to hire bikes from Burley village — about twenty-five minutes' walk away — if you want to pick up the pace a little. The White Buck gastropub is only a sixteen-minute walk away too for when you've earned some refreshment.

Wisteria House is a beautiful and fully restored farmhouse, neatly tucked into the New Forest National Park. Located just a short walk from the historic town of Lymington in Hampshire, be sure to browse through the charming shops, go for long walks and visit the country pubs of the area. Back at your cosy home, guests have access to the leisure facilities, such as the outdoor pool, hot tub, summer house and table tennis, barbecue area and even a small gym. But all of that is small in comparison to the charming interiors that make Wisteria House so special. In winter months, curl up beside the crackling fire in the first-floor drawing room –⁠ that chesterfield sofa has your name all over it. Then gather your ensemble in the elegant dining room with a blazing hearth at its heart to host a glamourous dinner party. Everything you need to flex your culinary muscles is in the made-for-action kitchen, and the Sonos speakers will set the ambience. 

On long summer evenings, grab a glass of something chilled and head out through the arched doors into the stunning courtyard garden. Blissfully quiet, it feels like your very own private oasis.

Just steps from Charminster High Street, this ground floor flat is brimming with Victorian character. It's a lovely red-brick townhouse, with plenty of historic charm to admire – think high ceilings and picture rails, ornamental ceiling roses, tall skirting boards and large bay windows flooding the rooms with light. Though it's on the smaller side, it's been well-designed to maximise the space – we think it's perfectly suited to a couple after a romantic escape. Read the morning paper in the plush armchair, help yourself to a selection of cereals and teas at the rustic breakfast bar or unwind after a busy day with a movie night in the cosy living room. The kitchenette is more suited to light bites than extravagant meals, so in the evenings you may want to dine out – there's an array of cafes, pubs and restaurants in Charminster to choose from. Bournemouth town centre and its sandy beaches are a twenty-five-minute walk (though we recommend driving), or venture a little further and enjoy a trip to the Jurassic Coast, famous for its fossils – you can be there in under an hour.

Madhuri

This cosy cabin is the perfect little bolthole for couples wanting to escape to the country. The location right at the heart of the New Forest means you’ll feel miles away from the stresses of daily life – as you fly down country lanes on your bike, you’ll feel your worries melting away. 

The cabin is just outside of Brockenhurst, in an area that feels secluded but isn’t too far from the nearest shops. You can stroll to the pub in fifteen minutes, which is a welcome sight after a day spent hiking the trails. A four-minute drive will get you to beautiful Beaulieu, which is well worth an afternoon strolling around after lunch in a cafe. The abbey is just six minutes from the cabin – the tranquil ruins are always popular with history buffs. 

If you need an ice cream on the beach for it to feel like a holiday, you’re in luck. Fifteen minutes by car will have you on a sandy shore, though we can’t guarantee it’ll be paddling weather. 

For us, the real joy of this cabin is its countryside setting. Walking just five minutes from the front door will see you on walking and cycling trails. When your feet start to feel sore, head back to the cabin to soak in the luxurious claw-foot tub before spending the evening in front of the fire. Absolute bliss.

This Southbourne home is a bit special. The beach is just a short walk away, which also means you can enjoy wonderful views here – there are 180-degree panoramas of the Isle of Wight, Sandbanks, and Swanage, which can be enjoyed from the balcony. If you’re not a fan of sandy feet, you can cool off in the private pool instead – and there’s a hot tub for relaxation. Kids will love the games room, which has an eaves room above it equipped with beanbag beds for fun sleepovers. There’s plenty of parking, which makes staying here all the more convenient. 

The Seaside Tale

Only a couple of blocks from bars and eateries, this modern home places its guests beside Bournemouth Beach. You'll receive a thoughtful welcome hamper upon your arrival, offering slippers and teatime treats. Don't fancy sipping sundowners on the decking? Hang out in the games room instead. There's even Netflix and a PlayStation here. As for practical bonuses, the twin beds can be set up as doubles. With an EV charger, Dorset road trips are on the cards via the easily accessible A338 dual carriageway.

Bournemouth Blue

This charming 19th-century gate lodge is tucked away in the picturesque Hampshire village of Rockbourne. It’s a romantic retreat equipped with an open fire and an open-plan living and dining space perfectly set up for two. Best of all, there’s a patio garden that’s a great spot for an alfresco meal in warm weather. This cosy home is within walking distance of three pubs and is just 1.5 miles from the New Forest National Park – don't forget your hiking boots.

Forget about beach life for a second and head further up into town, where you’ll find this luxurious flat just ten minutes from Bournemouth train station on foot. In an Edwardian building, this refurbished home is a distinguished and elegant base for exploring the delights of Dorset. We love the fabulous living space – antique and vintage furniture meets modern, industrial pieces in this eclectic room. Part of the glorious 5,500-acre St Giles House estate, it's been personally and immaculately renovated by the estate's owner (real-life nobility Lady Shaftesbury) to stunning effect. The natural and historical character - original lead windows, log burner and dove grey stone slabs - pack a punch, but it's her Ladyship's keen eye for style that has elevated this home into a truly romantic stay. We're talking about bold splashes of colour (a vibrant coral in the living room and soothing forest green in the bedroom) plus beautiful illustrated artwork and the highest quality Egyptian cotton sheets. This rural location is the perfect place to hide away from the rest of the world, but if you tire of each other's company, the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, the New Forest and the classic British seaside resorts of Poole and Bournemouth are all within a short drive away.

She obviously has a great eye for design, as her palette of delicious apricot and duck egg blue stylishly updates this vintage cottage into not just a twenty-first-century home, but a home with charm and character. There are plenty of thoughtful touches we found exquisite, from soft dressing gowns to the complementary breakfast hamper – and everything, from Egyptian cotton bedding to the plush sofas, is of boutique hotel quality. The hosts are attentive, meticulously committed to making sure your every whim is met. All in all, this cosy country hideaway is perfect for city escapes, with nearby the great beaches of the Jurassic coast, the New Forest, the National Trust property of Kingston Lacey, cities like Salisbury or Portsmouth and traditional seaside in Bournemouth. And while it feels like one of a kind, a twin lodge and two maisonettes in a neighbouring cottage are also available, so you can bring your friends too (although you might want to keep this little secret to yourself).

This building was once a brickworks, but has since been transformed into a cosy getaway in the New Forest National Park. There's plenty of traditional charm to be found here, from the towering chimneys and beamed ceilings, to the antique furniture and oil paintings on the walls. It has large sitting room and dining area, perfect for parties of family and friends to spend time together over lively brunches and long, indulgent dinners. Outside you'll find a lush garden with green lawns for picnicking and a terrace where you can unwind in the tranquil Hampshire countryside. If you're visiting during the summer months, a yurt is available to fit in even more guests. The peaceful Beaulieu River is right on your doorstep, where you can do some wild swimming or even take a boat taxi downstream. Come for the countryside, stay for the drama. Set in the sprawling Wiltshire estate that once belonged to the twelfth Earl of Shaftesbury, this former riding house exudes the spirit of the original stables thanks to a meticulous restoration – modern comforts meet ancient artefacts and authenticity. It's one of those homes that takes your breath away from the second you open the front door. The owners have made no effort to cover up the fact it's from a bygone era – and that's why we love it, true to the past with period artwork, original features, beamed ceilings, even a banqueting hall for grand feasts (which feels very extravagant when you're having your cereal). The velvet furnishings and exposed brick only add to the step back in time. An honesty bar is housed in a secret cupboard by the billiard table, and there are floor-to-ceiling bookshelves where you can select a novel to lose yourself in. Each bedroom comes with a luxurious roll-top bath, and the wooden dividers that once separated horses have been cleverly repurposed to create privacy screens. Outside, vast acres of the manor's parkland are yours to explore, so remember to bring your welly boots. This home is a fine example of outstanding restoration – countryside lovers may never want to leave.

The Riding House

Where do we start with this home – both the apartment and the location are excellent. Firstly, it’s just a 50-metre stroll across West Cliff Green to the beach steps making this the perfect base for a family-friendly holiday by the sea. There are an array of restaurants and bars within walking distance whilst Bournemouth Pier and the town centre are also accessible by foot. We love the sea views from this place’s private garden and who wouldn’t want to dine or relax in the light-filled conservatory? If you’re a group of eight, then two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living space, but it’s a spacious room. What a great find this is.

This former hotel sits in the heart of Bournemouth. Perfect for large groups and events, there’s plenty of space for entertaining across the large living and dining room. The bedrooms offer a quiet space to rest and recharge and they all come with en-suite bathrooms. There’s also a wonderful garden with a hot tub and outdoor seating – perfect for lazy summer afternoons. By day, you can stroll to the nearest shops, cafes and restaurants. It’s also just a short drive to the New Forest National Park and Purbeck Hills. 


The Grand Manor

A five-minute walk from Brook’s rugged coastal path and golden beach, the fresh sea air is never far from this isolated cottage. In a huge old farmhouse-style building, your quarters have tons of countryside character. Timber beams support the high vaulted ceilings, warm wooden flooring can be found throughout, and original, rustic barn-like doors keep things traditional. That said, every modern convenience is available, although some have a vintage edge like the red Smeg fridge. Leisure certainly hasn’t been forgotten about either, with board games and an outdoor play area to keep the whole family entertained. While the little ones romp in the garden, relax on the patio with a pot of tea. And when dinnertime strikes, you can light up the barbecue to dine alfresco on a balmy summer evening. As the home is located in the Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (one of only forty-six such spots in the UK), the prized landscape is exceptional for walking, fossil hunting, and windsurfing. But if you do fancy something a little more urban, the island’s main town of Cowes is just a twenty-five-minute drive.

This pretty farm building conversion offers all the independence of a private cottage with its own garden, with the added bonus of communal grounds where children can run free. Ideal for families, it's part of a small complex of similar homes just a five-minute walk from the nearest beach. Comfortable and smart, the single-storey cottage shows off its heritage with a stable door, high ceilings, oak beams and skylights, while the open-plan living space is perfect for keeping an eye on the kids as you whip up meals in the country kitchen. Bedrooms are cosy and relaxing, and we love the double doors that open out into the garden from the master bedroom. Outside, make use of the barbecue in your enclosed garden, or take the kids to the communal play area. With a fort, swings and a sunken trampoline, it's bound to be a hit. Walk to some of the area's best beaches from your doorstep, stroll to the local pub and head off on all sorts of adventures around the island by car.
