It’s a luxury few expect for a home nestled away in the quiet Kent countryside. In warmer months, slide the bifold doors right back to let the sunshine in and enjoy views of the pristinely manicured gardens beyond. You could easily while away the whole day – in fact, the entire week - padding between the pool, sauna, and outdoor sun loungers, with an occasional barbecue thrown in, to spice things up. And there are more welcome surprises inside this home too. The spacious light-filled lounge and dining area overlooks the swimming pool – handy for keeping an eye on poolside antics even when you’re indoors. We love how sociable this home is – the ideal setting for a family getaway or a group of friends to reunite. Cosy armchairs provide the perfect spot for late-night catch-ups, a lovely dining table is fitting for dinners, drinks, and board games, while the kitchen is big enough for everyone to pitch in when preparing meals. And while we love the cottage's warm and comforting interior, the gardens really make this home sing. There's more than enough space for the little ones to run around while the grown-ups refresh the jug of Pimms and work on the barbecue. There's even space for a friendly game of rounders. 

If you're up early enough, you can catch an incredible sunrise from the front garden. But if not (you're on holiday after all), pull up a seat in the back garden for the most wonderful sunset, with whirling shades of pink and orange sinking into the Kent countryside. 

This is a really beautiful area. The quaint town of Sandwich is just a ten-minute drive away and is widely considered one of the best preserved medieval towns in England. Head to Sandwich Bay for windy walks on the beach, before tucking into some traditional fish and chips.

Above this working pub, pick up a pint of English ale to sample before making your way around this striking abode. A truly unique stay, this home really transports you back hundreds of years, steeped in British tradition and exactly the eclectic vibe you’d hope for. Finish your pint in the back garden, with its picnic benches and lush lawns, where you'll probably find yourself chatting to one of the regulars. Located in the picturesque village of Ash, this farmhouse is a gorgeous escape, best suited for a large family or a group of friends who love the Kent countryside. The architecture hasn't changed much since the house was built well over a century ago, and you can still see a variety of period features, even though the home has recently undergone a careful refurbishment. This is most obvious in the homey kitchen with its hanging pots and pans, supported by a beautiful vaulted ceiling, as well as the antique fireplace in the living room. Thanks to the size of the garden, everyone can find their little spot and relax alone, or get together for an alfresco meal freshly cooked on the barbecue. But our favourite space has to be the library, where you can browse the host's wide collection of titles and pretend you're the Lord or Lady of the manor. There's a local pub just a few minutes away if you're in need of refreshment, along with a village shop. Plus, with the medieval town of Sandwich just a ten-minute drive away, along with a nearby golf course and wildlife park, there's plenty to entertain the whole family.

If you’re seeking a comfortable base in central Canterbury, this Scandi-style cottage is just the ticket. There’s no parking here, but the city is easily explored on foot, with Canterbury Cathedral, the Roman Museum and Whitefriars within walking distance. This Georgian home dates back to the 1800s, and you’ll find that the original staircase may be a little steep for some. The second bedroom is also a little snug – we think it works best for one adult or two children. That said, the cosy living room is a sweet spot to unwind after sightseeing, while the walled garden welcomes you to enjoy a glass of wine during the warmer months.

Two of the things that the Kent town of Deal is most famous for is its castle and stretch of pebbly coastline. As it happens, both of these things are visible through the big bay window in the lounge of this apartment. Back inside, the decor is simple, but every aspect has been executed so well. Wooden floorboards and white walls provide a classy backdrop against which colourful furnishings and photographic artwork pop off. The kitchen is pretty large considering the address is only for two, so you'll be able to flex your culinary muscles with no trouble. The presence of a bathtub is also sure to be appreciated after a long day frolicking about on the beach, which sits at the end of the street. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance, too.

A Northerly Wind

This charming home was once a favourite pub for weary fishermen at the end of their shift, right on the pebbles of Kingsdown Beach. If you fancy a real ale or cold pint after a day on the beach, don’t worry, the current local pub is just two doors down. If you want a bit more choice, head to the seafood restaurants and swanky bars of Deal, an hour’s walk along the seaside promenade, or an eight-minute drive.

The home itself is packed with little treats and surprises. There’s the beachside garden out the back, where you can pad barefoot from the outdoor dining terrace straight onto the shingle of Kingsdown Beach for a paddle in the sea. Then there’s the secret sauna, tucked down an old alleyway. The pretty little sunroom is furnished with floral armchairs and a vintage-style radio to listen to the Shipping Forecast while gazing out to sea. We love the kitchen and living room, which is packed with vintage pieces and has the air of an old fisherman’s cottage. Poking about through the extensive vinyl collection and browsing the cookbooks is a particular delight.

Get your fill of fresh coastal air at this welcoming cottage in Deal. An idyllic seaside getaway, it has everything you need for a relaxing stay. While the cottage’s smart dining room is lovely for sharing home–cooked meals, there are plenty of restaurants, bars, and pubs just a short stroll away – we love a good pub grub dish. For adventures further afield, the seaside town of Whitstable is only a 20–minute drive away and the freshly shucked oysters here can’t be beaten. After an exciting day out, the leafy garden is perfect for a glass of red before a relaxing soak in the big white tub – paradise.

For a different perspective, jump aboard one of the punts that lead guided tours along the River Stour or hire bikes and cycle to Chatham along the Great Stour Way.

Beachfront living is hard to beat, and that's exactly what this fuss-free apartment offers. Set on Sandgate Esplanade, the shingled beach is just across the street. It's on the top three floors of a Victorian building dating back 150 years, so expect to climb quite a few stairs. You'll find it's worth the effort, though, as the views from up here are superb. The bay window offers sweeping sea panoramas, including a glimpse of France in the distance. It's not the most modern home – the communal hallway is especially dated – but it works well for families keen to be seconds from the sea.

Taking up the two floors of a Victorian townhouse, this home has a lovely view of Deal Castle out through the window. Inside, there's plenty to hold your attention, too. The white walls and wooden floorboards work very well with the ample amounts of natural light that come in through the windows on either side of the long, open living space. There's a charming collection of nautical-themed pieces of artwork and trinkets dotted about the space, as well as a pair of bathtubs that are sure to tempt you upon coming back through the front door after a long day exploring this quaint seaside town. The pier is eight minutes' walk along the pebbly beach and you'll spot some of the wide array of restaurants and pubs that Deal has to offer along the way.
