It’s a luxury few expect for a home nestled away in the quiet Kent countryside. In warmer months, slide the bifold doors right back to let the sunshine in and enjoy views of the pristinely manicured gardens beyond. You could easily while away the whole day – in fact, the entire week - padding between the pool, sauna, and outdoor sun loungers, with an occasional barbecue thrown in, to spice things up. And there are more welcome surprises inside this home too. The spacious light-filled lounge and dining area overlooks the swimming pool – handy for keeping an eye on poolside antics even when you’re indoors. And upstairs, there’s a secondary lounge with Juliet balcony doors revealing views of the gardens and distant rolling fields. With such vast countryside views, you could feel a million miles from anywhere here, but you’re not as remote as you first thought. The pretty neighbouring villages all have excellent pubs serving hearty food, and the bustling cathedral town of Canterbury is just over a twenty-minute drive away. It’s rare that a house in Whitstable has a garden this big, but that’s the bonus of being on the outskirts of town. True to any seaside sanctuary, there are deck chairs in the garden to soak up the sun and outdoor dining set up on rattan furniture. A big lawn allows kids to run free. 

Inside, the social space is huge. A mezzanine balcony and double-height ceiling in the open-plan living area created a sense of space and we love the boho and scandi-chic seating for all the family. A breakfast bar and kitchen island of raw wood mean there’s oodles of prep space and dining is at a rustic wooden table with bench-style seating. Bedrooms are massive, and kids will love the higglety pigglety layout of single beds secreted away beneath eaves and on mezzanine levels.

You’re on the outskirts of Whitstable, a twenty-minute walk (or five-minute drive) from the seafront where beach huts line the sand and fishing boats bob in the harbour. Here you’ll find plenty to see and do with fish and chip restaurants and ice cream shops galore. Outdoorsy types should hit the Crab and Winkle Cycle Way, right from the home’s doorstep.

This former fisherman's cottage has been given a new lease of life as a charming holiday home. Best suited to a couple and up to three kids, it's the perfect place to begin your adventures in the wonderful town of Whitstable. 

Step inside, and you'll feel instantly at home thanks to the cosy furnishings and warm colour scheme. There are quirky details dotted throughout the house – look out for the sweet octopus sketch, patterned tiles, and carefully curated antique pieces. On chilly evenings, you can light up the wood-burner and enjoy a home-cooked dinner of local seafood. Or, when the sun shines, head out to the courtyard and fire up the barbeque for a delicious grilled feast. 

From here, Whitstable Beach is just a five-minute stroll away, where you can paddle in the water and soak up the Kentish sunshine. There are plenty of quaint pubs and tasty restaurants to try – make sure you don't leave without tasting the town's delicacy, fresh oysters. And, if you fancy doing something a bit different, head to the Wildart Trail, a woodland walk adorned with sculptures – it's a fourteen-minute drive away.

Overlooking the Kent Downs, within ten acres of land belonging to a Grade II listed farmhouse, the setting of this converted stable is postcard-perfect. Inside, the owners have nailed the modern rustic interior brief. While outside, expect a shared courtyard and garden for barbecues and stargazing beside the firepit. Bringing the kids along? Little ones will love the shared play area and meeting the resident animals. If you fancy eating out, nearby Hastingleigh has a pub within walking distance, and Wye is just an eight-minute drive. Or head to the coast for lip-smacking fish and chips –⁠ Whitstable is a scenic forty-five-minute drive away.

If you’re seeking a comfortable base in central Canterbury, this Scandi-style cottage is just the ticket. There’s no parking here, but the city is easily explored on foot, with Canterbury Cathedral, the Roman Museum and Whitefriars within walking distance. This Georgian home dates back to the 1800s, and you’ll find that the original staircase may be a little steep for some. The second bedroom is also a little snug – we think it works best for one adult or two children. That said, the cosy living room is a sweet spot to unwind after sightseeing, while the walled garden welcomes you to enjoy a glass of wine during the warmer months.

In the heart of the picturesque seaside town of Whitstable, this home is just steps away from the High St – lined with independent boutiques, art galleries and seafood restaurants – with the bustling Harbour Market and the beachfront just a few minutes further on foot. The ground floor has been opened up, making this home better suited to modern living. However, period features, including a cast iron fireplace in the main bedroom and sash windows, remain. Out back, a spacious patio and dining area is equipped with solar lights that flick on in the evening, creating a lovely space for alfresco dining over the summer months.

It’s also family-friendly with a bunk bed room for children and plenty to explore in the surroundings. From here, it’s just a short drive to Canterbury and the coastal towns of Folkestone and Hythe.

Conveniently located in the heart of Canterbury, this loft apartment is part of a gated community. You’ll be able to easily reach the city’s historic sights, as well as all the shops and cafes, and the beach is also just a short drive away. While not the grandest pad in our collection, the place is comfy, with ample space for a small family to enjoy a relaxing stay.

If you're dreaming of a coastal getaway, this stylish house in Whitstable is a good starting point for two couples or small families. Within walking distance of Tankerton Beach, Whitstable Castle and the town centre, it gets a big thumbs-up on location. You'll also find the Harbour Market nearby, where you can really embrace the laidback seaside atmosphere. And though the postcode first caught our attention, we also appreciate that the home is well-kept, bold and modern. The rooms may not be the biggest, but they are comfortable, and the living space's layout means maximum socialising. 

The Lazy Boat

Newly renovated, this two-bedroom mews cottage boasts open-plan interiors and a mid-century modern inspired aesthetic. Its location within a conservation area only a 2-minute stroll from the beach more than makes up for a lack of outside space. Mere moments from fashionable Harbour Street, you’re practically surrounded by boutique shops, pubs and restaurants. What’s more, you don’t even need a car – Whitstable Station is a 12-minute walk away.

Mid-Century Mews

Minutes from the sea, this stylish house is the perfect base for a family holiday in Whitstable. The seafront is lined with beachy cafés, seafood restaurants and good old fashioned fish and chip shops. Build sandcastles and paddle in the sea knowing it’s just a three-minute walk back to this home if you forget the sunscreen. The home itself is pristine white with cosy furnishings. The snug living room is set around a wood-burner and there’s an ample vinyl collection if you want to set the mood with the record player. There are board games a-plenty and books for all ages scattered across the bookshelves. The breakfasting kitchen is big and bright, with glass doors that fold back to reveal the cute back garden where a picnic bench is brightened by stringed lights at night. Our favourite thing about this place is the claw-footed tub, perfect for a bath after a day on the beach.

Situated in the heart of the Kentish countryside, this elegant converted barn offers the peace and comfort of a rural retreat while remaining in reach of popular historic settlements. With three double bedrooms, a large social kitchen, and an open plan living area adjoined by a cosy snug, there's plenty of space for families and friend groups to stretch out and relax. There's also a fenced garden with sun loungers and a wooden table, ideal for bringing your book outside on warmer days. While the village of Adisham is quite remote – the nearest pub is five miles away – you'll only be a fifteen minute drive from Canterbury, one of England's most venerated cities.

If you’re searching for a unique stay filled with character, this home could the one for you. Originally built in 1850 as a customs house, the space has since been transformed into a relaxing riverside retreat – ideal for groups looking to switch off and enjoy the best of Faversham. Located in a residential area with views across Standard Quay, there are lovely walks from here as well as easy access to local shops, cafes and restaurants – just a short stroll away. Parties aren’t allowed, but there’s plenty of space for intimate dinners and cosy evenings around the fire. While the rooms are spread across four floors with stair access, the owners have ensured the space is child friendly, plus those looking to adventure further afield will appreciate the ample free parking.

Enjoy day after day by the seaside with this contemporary beach apartment, boasting stunning views of the North Sea. There's so much to like here – the northern coast means you get sunset and sunrise on the water, there are plenty of areas to spread out and socialise, including a patio with a barbecue. You may bump into your neighbours, but the location is worth it. The town is a short stroll away, so you won't need to worry about running out of suncream, and Herne Bay is also excellently located for exploring Kent – you'll find Whitstable a few miles west, to the south is Canterbury, and to the east is Margate, all model day trip destinations.

This striking 18th century mansion provides the perfect setting for a large family gathering or to celebrate a special occasion. We love how the rooms have a modern touch to them while simultaneously paying homage to their past. Most of the bedrooms have an ensuite and look out over the beautiful gardens, which have lots of different parts to them – perfect for a game of hide and seek. If you fancy exploring the surroundings, both the coast and the historical pilgrimage site of Canterbury are about half an hour’s drive away. 

The Fitz Mansion

Set just back from the pebble beach on Whitstable's Island Wall, this three-bedroom former fisherman's cottage offers a coastal haven just a short stroll from the town's vibrant centre.

On the ground floor, there's a cosy sitting room, plus a large open-plan kitchen and dining room that opens out onto a pretty cottage garden via retractable bifold doors, creating a large sociable space that spans inside and out. Head upstairs and you'll catch tantalising glimpses of the sea from the bedrooms on the first and second floors.

Wander less than five minutes from your front door, and you'll find yourself on Whitstable's High Street, lined with cool coffee shops, independent boutiques and sumptuous restaurants, some of which have been serving seafood for over 150 years.

Enjoy safe bathing and sunset promenades along Tankerton's Blue Flag beach, a little over a mile away, while the historic city of Canterbury is just 7 miles away. This home in the seaside town of Herne Bay is the perfect getaway for beach holidays, whether the sun is shining or whether you’re caught in the British rain. We would love to start our mornings here with a fresh coffee from the pod machine and enjoy it alfresco on the outdoor decking, breathing in the salty sea air for an invigorating wake-up call. 

Then wander ten minutes to the seafront and pier to spend the day beside the sea. Or if the rain is pouring and you would rather stay cosy inside, why not grab your holiday reading and settle down in the loft-converted lounge space, which even offers incredible sea views?
