Seamlessly blending modern design, eco credentials and a nod to its past as a chapel, it’s not hard to see why this home caught our eye. With its cosy wood burner and peaceful, rural location, it’s impossible not to relax here. Nestled in the heart of Twitton, between the villages of Otford and Shoreham, you’ll find scenic walks aplenty in the local area, along with country pubs offering sustenance after you’ve burnt off a few calories hiking. Further afield, there are several National Trust properties worth visiting, or a vineyard within walking distance – there’s something for everyone here. 

Kentish Comfort

Nestled among a cluster of fisherman’s cottages a minute’s walk from Kingsdown Beach, this cosy home is perfect for a family holiday at the coast. Inside, shades of blue and nautical touches are a nod to the nearby sea, while a hand-picked selection of shabby chic furniture adds warmth to the abode. Begin your mornings with brunch around the dining table in the open-plan living area or dine alfresco if the sun’s out. Once the plates are cleared away, sprint down to the pebbled shores for an afternoon of paddling and long walks by the water’s edge. Follow the coastal path for fifty minutes to the pretty town of Deal, where a contemporary art scene and superb collection of bars and eateries draw a cool, local crowd. When the day draws to a close, head back home for mugs of hot tea in the inviting living room – fire up the wood-burner to make it extra cosy. 

The Captain's Cottage

A stone’s throw from Camber Sands, this stylish home takes beach shack to glamorous new heights, making it the perfect coastal retreat for friendly get-togethers and extended families. 

The interior is characterfully designed using reclaimed and antique materials, offering a revitalised version of seaside chic. The host is evidently a fan of up-cycling – look out for creative touches such as repurposed doors, stain-glass windows and rustic radiators. We especially love the wood-panelled walls and flooring that shape the space as a whole, while the comfortable furnishings, neutral tones and wood-burning stove keep things cosy. 

Here, as much attention has been paid to comfort as it has to style – drift off to sleep beneath Egyptian cotton bed linen or relax on leather sofas in the sitting room. But, don’t spend too much time inside as this home is close to an expansive sandy beach. Enjoy exclusive use of a private “No Through” sandy road, with access only to residents, and walk to the sand dunes in two minutes. End the day with early-evening sundowners on the front porch, sharing anecdotes and listening to the waves lapping in and out of the shore, before heading into the local village for a spot of traditional pub grub, five minutes away on foot. 

Camber Sands

Positioned directly on Dungeness's public beach, this former foghorn testing station has been fully renovated into a unique getaway for two. The nearby lighthouse's foghorn still works, although we much prefer the idea of waking up to the sound of the waves and seagulls. The sea is literally on your doorstep, and huge glass doors and a small terrace maximise the idyllic views. It's more of a studio than a one-bed, but we like the single-level layout. Although phone signal is patchy here and there's no proper TV, there is wi-fi for remote working and streaming. That said, the Bose speaker system, wood burner and teak bathtub are all you need to truly unwind. 

The Fog Signalling Building 

This blue bungalow is the perfect getaway for two, with high A-frame ceilings, sand-coloured wooden floors and bright living spaces. We'd describe the aesthetic as contemporary coastal – rattan lighting fixtures, leafy houseplants and plush furnishings bring a beachy bohemian air, while the sleek kitchen and crisp, clean lines are elegant and modern. After a long day on the coast, snuggle up in front of the electric fire for a cosy night at home. If you're in the mood to cook, the blue and yellow kitchen has everything you'll need, so let your culinary skills run wild. On sunny days, enjoy your feast in the garden, which is shielded from the main house by clever bamboo screens. There's even a desk in the bedroom if you need to do some remote working. But our favourite part is the location – you're just a fifteen-minute walk from Deal Castle Beach and the wonderful Kent coastline. Enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many seaside restaurants, shop the local boutiques, browse the many art galleries and enjoy a romp around Deal Castle. With the rest of the White Cliffs Country easily accessed by car, it's the ideal spot for a romantic retreat by the sea.

Three Wooden Boats

With a privileged address in the heart of medieval Rye, this home is the perfect base for an East Sussex break. You’ll have a light-filled courtyard for warm weather drinks and a garden for leisurely gatherings. Inside, the rooms are perfect for families with plenty of space to relax, socialise, cook or catch up on work. Parking is available here and it’s just a short walk to local restaurants, galleries, shops and Camber Sands. It’s also a great base for exploring Hastings, Battle and Dungeness. 


For A Moment 

This peaceful haven offers beautiful views and the perfect setting for a restorative retreat in the North Downs. Nestled within a small country estate, you can relax in the private garden, savour long soaks in the hot tub and follow hiking trails through the surrounding meadows. Inside, the rooms have been designed to inspire a wonderful sense of well-being. From the Scandinavian design and the woodburning stove to the luxurious freestanding bath and the range of extra services, you’ll find it easy to settle in and make it your own. It’s also family-friendly with a bunk bed room for children and plenty to explore in the surroundings. From here, it’s just a short drive to Canterbury and the coastal towns of Folkestone and Hythe.

The Garden in Bloom

It’s rare that a house in Whitstable has a garden this big, but that’s the bonus of being on the outskirts of town. True to any seaside sanctuary, there are deck chairs in the garden to soak up the sun and outdoor dining set up on rattan furniture. A big lawn allows kids to run free. 

Inside, the social space is huge. A mezzanine balcony and double-height ceiling in the open-plan living area created a sense of space and we love the boho and scandi-chic seating for all the family. A breakfast bar and kitchen island of raw wood mean there’s oodles of prep space and dining is at a rustic wooden table with bench-style seating. Bedrooms are massive, and kids will love the higglety pigglety layout of single beds secreted away beneath eaves and on mezzanine levels.

You’re on the outskirts of Whitstable, a twenty-minute walk (or five-minute drive) from the seafront where beach huts line the sand and fishing boats bob in the harbour. Here you’ll find plenty to see and do with fish and chip restaurants and ice cream shops galore. Outdoorsy types should hit the Crab and Winkle Cycle Way, right from the home’s doorstep.

Shells In The Garden

As refined and attractive a home as you're likely to see, this single-storey apartment is a wing of a Grade II Gothic mansion. But what makes it truly unique is that it faces the ruins of an ancient Franciscan abbey that's of such historical importance it's been granted Scheduled Monument status. Set in the home's grounds, the abbey dates from 1285 and it's quite a sight to wake up to each morning.

Inside, the home is beautifully detailed, with character features like a meticulously restored original fireplace with log burner in the living room, Gothic plasterwork, ornate cornice to the high ceilings and stone mullion windows. Decorated in a classical country residence style, there's a Chesterfield to lounge upon, a vintage dining table and chairs, and an antique writing table. But it also boasts some tasteful modern touches, like the emperor-size bed with a cashmere and wool mattress and 800 thread count linen in the master bedroom, the stylish marble bathrooms, the cosy double bed and built-in bunkbed in the second bedroom. Comfortable and warm, it's a real home from home, with a well kitted-out kitchen (including a basket of local produce) and unbeatable views framed by tall windows.

With its own private and fully enclosed garden and a wood-fired hot tub, you'll no doubt be spending much of your time outdoors, and there's a table and chairs plus a barbecue for meals alfresco. But the village pub is only a short walk away and the charming medieval town of Rye, bursting with pubs, shops and restaurants, is just a few minutes by car. Explore Winchelsea’s cellar tours, 13th century church with stunning stained glass windows, farm shop, pub, and vineyard wine tours hosted by a neighbour of the home. Keen walkers can hike across the marshes, while beach lovers will be in their element – Winchelsea beach is just down the road, while both Rye Harbour and the famous dunes of Camber Sands are a short drive. You're also only two hours from London.

The Friar's Monument

Looking for a British seaside stay? This might just be the ticket. Located just fifty yards from Camber Sands beach, this coastal home is perfect for beach-loving groups and families. Roll out of bed and enjoy a coffee in the private garden before walking the few steps to the beach. You can spend all day there, or you can hop in the car and visit coastal towns like Rye and Dungeness. In the evening, share a home-cooked meal in the large dining area, or pop back to the beach for some good old fish and chips.

Shell House

This whimsical and romantic home in Kent makes the perfect setting for a quintessential countryside stay.

Spend your days exploring the surrounding countryside. There are wonderful walking trails from the door, as well as local pubs, cafes and shops in Westerham village – only thirteen–minutes away. History lovers will find themselves drawn to Chartwell House – the former home of Winston Churchill is a six–minute drive away. 

After a day in the fresh air, you’ll love the feeling of coming home to relax in the roll-top bath. Warm summer evenings can be spent in the beautiful garden, enjoying the playful sweetness of this setting. And on cooler nights, light up the wood-burning fire and share a cosy evening in traditional English style.
