Take off into the beautiful wilds of the Lincolnshire countryside with a stay at this Victorian farm cottage on the doorstep of a 400-acre nature reserve. 

Don the home’s wellington boots to voyage through the surrounding woodlands with roaming wild ponies just moments from your door. Rejuvenate with a pampering session at the estate’s natural spa (think Cleopatra copper milk and flower baths) – a minute’s drive away. Or up the ante with archery and axe throwing lessons before a bonfire evening – it’s all going on here.

Back at home, this place is everything you’d imagined your country retreat to be. The décor is on the right side of quirky – not too minimalist, not too over-filled with antiques – and freshly cut flowers and vibrant textiles add dashes of colour. Over in the farmhouse kitchen, there’s a mighty range oven to cook up a feast. Or treat yourself to a gourmet farmhouse breakfast or afternoon tea, delivered straight to your door.

On long summer evenings, keep the night flowing in the walled garden beside the firepit. And on wintery nights, draw the curtains and hunker down for board games by candlelight. With wood stacked by the log burner, you may have no desire to venture out. But should you fancy a change of scene, South Ferriby's award-winning pub (a thirteen-minute drive) is an evening well spent. 

Cottagecore

Found in the centre of town, a thirteen-minute walk from Lincoln's iconic Cathedral, this large family home has been restored with comfort and style in mind. Especially so, given the size of the two lounges. Add the dining area into the equation and the chef's kitchen (complete with four ovens), and you can see how there's plenty of room for everyone to carve out their own space. Two pull-out beds and two single sofa beds keep sleeping arrangements flexible, although these are best for children as they're on the smaller side. 

Step out through the bi-fold doors onto a large patio area with garden furniture for seamless indoor and outdoor dining. Down from the patio is a large grass area and a hot tub suitable for seven people. This is the perfect garden for summer socials and barbecues.

Blue Velvet & Cedar

Recently refurbished, there's a bit of a natural connection going on in the interior design of this home in the village of Stamford Bridge. As well as house plants dotted liberally about the place — often in unique pots — we spotted an array of woven furnishings and artwork dedicated to the great outdoors. We should also mention the actual outdoors space at this point, too. Step out the back door and you'll find a patio with alfresco seating and a barbecue, which will both come into their own on summer evenings. This overarching theme feels apt given the beautiful countryside within easy reach of the property. The charming Fairy Sanctuary attraction at Northwood Trail is only eighteen minutes away on foot, while the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty takes about the same amount of time in the car. If you fancy a day in town, however, the centre of York is only a twenty-five-minute drive.

Silver Bells and Cockleshells

Built around 1885, this townhouse sits in a great spot in Pickering. You’re in a quiet area, but the town centre is literally just around the corner, so you get the best of both worlds. The south-facing courtyard is a sun trap in the warmer months, perfect for relaxed evenings. Inside, you’ll find plenty of character, with exposed beams and stone archways, a roll-top bath, and an Aga in the kitchen. There’s only one bathroom, though one bedroom has its own double washbasin. The living room is on the small side, but it still squeezes in a dining nook, so you’ve got everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Market Town Retreat

Whether you’re curled up in front of the log-burning stove or allowing your cares to melt away in the outdoor hot tub, this quaint cottage will wrap you up in a blanket of comfort and calm. The place is charmingly rustic, in keeping with its old granary heritage – think exposed timber beams, low ceilings, wood elements and cosy furnishings. Get to know your neighbours on arrival – your home is situated next to the paddock where Dave the llama and Bob the pony roam and graze. When you’re ready to explore, lace up your walking boots and delve into the surrounding Yorkshire countryside, or head out to York city centre, just a twenty-minute drive away. Shop along the medieval Shambles before checking out the wealth of characterful restaurants, bars and cafes. 

Granary Cottage

Lie low at this Tudor farm cottage, on the doorstep of a 400-acre nature reserve in the glorious Lincolnshire countryside.

Built in 1510 and lovingly restored using traditional handcrafts by the owners, the cottage fuses heritage architecture and cosy countryside living to perfection.

The devil really is in the detail here – from the freshly cut flowers to the gourmet breakfast baskets and afternoon tea spreads (both bookable for an additional fee).

Embrace the great outdoors with a guided reserve tour and spot the wild Exmoor ponies that roam this magnificent landscape – there are wellies and raincoats to borrow should the weather take a turn. Try your hand at archery and axe throwing lessons. Then reward yourself with an evening of pampering at the farm estate's on-site spa (think Cleopatra copper milk and flower baths) – it's just a thirty-second walk from your door.
 
When it comes to the day's end, enjoy long summer nights in the 18th century walled garden beside the firepit. Take things inside to cook up a feast in the shaker-style kitchen, complete with an Aga stove. Break out the home's board games beside the crackling fire. Or head out to nearby South Ferriby for upper crust grub at it's award-winning pub – just a fifteen-minute drive away.


Tudor Dreams

With captivating sea views from its upper-floor balconies, this home has a fantastic setting. You can also enjoy the views from two of the bedrooms – we especially love the main bedroom with its seating area. There’s a large kitchen for when you want to prepare some homemade meals, and there’s a courtyard area too. Location-wise, well, it’s great – South Bay Beach is a short stroll away, as is Scarborough Castle and the town centre with all of its shops, cafes and restaurants.

Blissful Seaside Retreat

A hidden gem nestled in the heart of Lincolnshire's beautiful countryside, this cute cottage resides in the village of Tealby. Offering a quintessential English countryside experience, you'll be located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it's the perfect spot for bolthole walkers, cyclists and those in need of some time with nature. Just moments from the villages local amenities, you'll find The Vintage Tearooms offering delicious breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas just a two-minute walk away. Stop by the local village shop, for fresh bread only a four-minute stroll away and be sure to enjoy a nightcap at The King's Head Pub – a five-minute walk away. Restored to high quality, the cottage itself is a humble breath of fresh air, that feels completely private despite its close proximity to the host's main house. Cosy interiors create a warm and welcoming space to snuggle up in after a day of taking in the country air. Sip a cup of tea in front of the log burner fire – oh and there's underfloor heating too, so you needn't worry about getting cold toes here. Outside you'll have your own private decking area with picturesque views over the garden. It's a haven of wildlife during the spring and summer months – if you're lucky you might even get to see the pheasant that often frequents this space. Get the barbecue going when it's warm out and spend the evening stargazing up at the twinkling sky (since there are no street lights here – it's an incredible sight). If you're staying for a few days you might want to venture out to discover more of historic Lincoln – check out the city's castle and cathedral, only a forty-minute drive away. Not to mention the miles of unspoilt coastline that is easily in reach if you head further east. 

Pheasant's Nest

If you're looking for the ideal bolthole for a Great British seaside getaway, this home is just the ticket. Stylish, comfortable furnishings, plenty of space, and a stone's throw away from all of the seaside fun that Scarborough has to offer. You'll love waking up in your super comfy bed, energised and ready to take on a day of exploring. Whether that's venturing into the town, spending the day on the beach, or following one of the area's many trails, it's all right on your doorstep. 

A trip to Scarborough isn't complete without a trip to the beach. North Beach and South Beach are both within fifteen-minute walking distance, so you can end the age-old question of which is best with ease. Lounge on the sand, glide through the sea (weather permitting!), visit ice cream parlours, arcades, and of course, end your day out with a trip to one of the area's many pubs. The perfect seaside getaway. When it comes to dinnertime, you're within easy reach of plenty of shops to pick up some goods and rustle up something special. With a large and open dining table, you've plenty of room to enjoy a lovely group meal. But if you want to venture out for dinner, you're spoilt for choice. You have plenty of restaurants all within a five minutes walk – take your pick!

Drift of Days

Perfectly positioned, just metres from soft pale sand, with sweeping views of the turquoise harbour, this modern apartment is an idyllic spot in the heart of Newquay. In the living space, a neutral colour scheme is lifted by eyecatching art prints but it’s the views of the glittering sea that steal the limelight. Begin your morning on your private balcony, watching the gulls claw the air and the tide crawl in as your clan sets the table ready for a hearty breakfast. Then slap on the sun cream and make haste to the famous Fistral Beach, only ten minutes by foot from your building. After catching a wave or digging around in rock pools, head inland to traditional pubs for Sunday roasts and Bloody Marys. Return home to watch the sunset from your enviable vantage point before falling into bed, exhausted and satisfied at the end of another sublime day on the Cornish coast.
