Mornings call for breakfasts around the long wooden dining table or luxurious coffees on the sofa while indulging in a book from the shelves. Then, set off for a day of walking and sightseeing – Clitheroe’s centre is just a one-minute walk away, while the majestic medieval ruins of Clitheroe Castle are a three-minute stroll from your door. Alternatively, enjoy sunny promenades along the River Ribble or hop in the car for an excursion into the Forest of Bowland (you can also reach the edge of the forest on foot in just under forty minutes). After a day in the great outdoors, come back home for a sunset glass of bubbly in the shared courtyard garden before curling up in the front of the fire with a movie (you’ve got an HDTV with Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix). Then, retreat to your inviting beds and drift off into a wonderfully peaceful night’s sleep.

Nestled in the quiet village of Foolow in Derbyshire, you'll feel at one with nature from being surrounded by miles of green fields. The garden of this home is particularly special. The outside seating area is tailor-made for enjoying an evening tipple. Why not sample the local Lindway Brook champagne and toast to making wonderful memories? When the light starts to fade, head inside and put your feet up in the lounge while the wood burner glows away.

Being situated in the Peak District, this cottage is in an ideal location to make the most of one of the UK's most beautiful regions. Get the boots on and hike one of the many trails here, or jump on two wheels and cycle to a nearby destination. We recommend the seventy-minute cycle to Buxton – a lovely town dating back to the Roman times that's known for its natural thermal springs. Soak your tired muscles before heading back to the cottage for the evening.

Green Fields

A luxurious, modern conversion, these former stables and coach house once belonged to the nearby manor. Set in extensive grounds but with its own garden, this is one magnificent place to stay in North Yorkshire. Thoughtfully designed by the owners who have put their personal stamp on the stunning interiors, there's plenty of space for groups to socialise – both indoors and out. The high-end kitchen is perfectly equipped for cooking family feasts, plus there's a smaller on the other side of that house that's perfect for whipping up a quick snack. Each bedroom is unique and they all come with spectacular bathrooms, ideal for relaxing after long walks or getting ready for a slap-up meal in town. You'd be forgiven for thinking you're in the middle of the countryside but here you'll be just a short walk away from the city of Ripon, with its endless places to eat, drink and shop. And being right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales means keen walkers and cyclists will love it here too.

Unbridled

Every care has been taken to modernise this Victorian cottage without diminishing its period charm. We love the old-world touches, like the cast iron heaters, sparkling chandeliers and ornate vintage mirrors. Escaping from the hustle and bustle of the big city is a no-brainer here. Throw open your windows in the morning, and you’ll hear birdsong – you might even see a passing deer or two. Whip up a quick breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen, and then put on your walking shoes. Miles of open countryside await right on your doorstep – the cottage is at the end of a drive where the village gives way to the natural world. We're pretty sure that you won't find many cottages cuter than this. Built at the backend of the eighteenth century, this traditional weaver's house is Grade-II listed and you can see why. Inside, the wooden ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and stable door are full of rustic charm, while a log-burning fire and antique furnishings add an extra level of cosiness. To the side of the home, there's a patio area complete with alfresco seating where you can enjoy a coffee and the surrounding tranquillity of West Yorkshire. Fans of Last of the Summer Wine — one of the longest-running sitcoms in the world — will love walking around the local town of Holmfirth where it was filmed. The Peak District is only a ten-minute drive away too if you're in the mood for a long ramble.

Tailor-made for socialising, we love the open-concept kitchen and dining areas making up the heart of the home, where in winter, you can soak up the warmth of the wood burner or in summer months, spill out onto the terrace. Locally, you’re just a short distance from the vibrant market towns of Clitheroe and Settle, while walkers and cyclers alike will adore Gisburn Forest, a mere five-minute drive away.

Stunning country walks are also on offer, with the Swale Waterfalls and river walk just ten minutes from your door on foot, or head further afield to the picturesque scenery of the Yorkshire Dales – a twenty-two-minute drive away. 

For dinnertime, you’re spoilt for choice with the Old Richmond Station – that has not only three cinema screens and an art gallery but also award-winning food and drink producers – a ten-minute walk away, or take advantage of the cookery books provided by your host and cook something new and delicious at home. 

Riches of Richmond

This classic yet contemporary home is just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Ambleside and perfectly placed to capture a picturesque glimpse of the steeple of St Mary's Church rising above the trees. So sip your morning coffee on the balcony and take a minute to enjoy the charming view. Once you arrive and park the car, we love that there's little reason to move it again as you can find everything you need on your doorstep. However, if you do decide to explore further afield, the home is only a ten-minute drive from the head of Windermere, meaning that exploring the Lake District is as easy as hopping in the car with a picnic. And when you return from the day's adventures, stroll down to one of the country pubs for dinner and a restorative pint of ale, or simply flop down in that spacious living room.

This delightful apartment is perfectly placed in the heart of Ambleside, just a short walk from the shops, restaurants, and bars.
