Inside, the wooden ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and stable door are full of rustic charm, while a log-burning fire and antique furnishings add an extra level of cosiness. To the side of the home, there's a patio area complete with alfresco seating where you can enjoy a coffee and the surrounding tranquillity of West Yorkshire. Fans of Last of the Summer Wine — one of the longest-running sitcoms in the world — will love walking around the local town of Holmfirth where it was filmed. This old stone home offers an escape to the country like no other. Set on acres and acres of private land, the estate here is dedicated to rewilding. Instead of topiaried hedges and regimented flowerbeds you’ll find wildflower meadows, wild moorland and forests alive with wildlife. Here, days can be spent cycling and hiking the woodland trails straight from your doorstep, wild swimming and climbing up to a Bronze Age cairn. There’s a wellness centre on the estate too for some real R&R.

The home itself combines a Scandi-chic vibe with touches of the 19th century. Stone fireplaces and wooden-beamed ceilings sit alongside sleek, modern kitchen cabinets and plush sofas in sitting rooms. Our favourite spot has to be the dedicated playroom, or “kid’s cave” where bunting and hand-written notes cover the walls and there’s a big activity table to keep little hands occupied for hours. The view from the classic old windows is something to savour too – out over rewilded pastures and rolling hills for miles.

Once the dwelling of the estate's groundskeeper, this Lake District property has been refurbished to become a contemporary countryside getaway.

Inside, the design could definitely be described as minimalist, with walls painted in soothing whites adorned only by a few well-chosen pieces of artwork, a sleek kitchen and a preference for simple wooden furnishings. The wood-burning fireplace situated in an archway between the living room and dining area is sure to keep the whole ground floor warm and toasty.

But what about during those balmy months in which a roaring fire isn't necessary? The alfresco dining table on the terrace is sure to see some use during this time, as is the barbecue. You'll probably want to work up an appetite first, however, and there's an onsite heated swimming pool and an activity centre offering everything from watersports, 4x4 off-road driving, clay pigeon shooting, archery, axe-throwing or bushcraft.

If you're after something a little more sedate, there are plenty of walking routes that start from the site, including one to the cute village of Hawkshead about ninety minutes away on foot.

When it’s time to dive into the great outdoors, you’re right beneath Ingleborough, one of the famous Three Peaks. Follow the countless bridle paths just moments away, leading to lakeside nature trails, mature woodlands, spectacular limestone caves, and eventually, the summit of Ingleborough.

When it’s time to come back down to earth, this elegant home with a pedigree going way back to 1620 delivers all the cottage feels with flagged stone floors, exposed beams, and quirky little nooks. Friends sharing will love how spaced out the bedrooms feel, each on their own floor. And though there’s no enclosed garden to speak of, the lawned sitting-out area at the front of the home is perfect for evening summer drinks as you watch the lambs and ducks waddle by across the green. The prime location in North Yorkshire means that you won't be short of inspiration for days out. You can walk to Ripon Cathedral in just over a quarter of an hour, while the Nidderdale AONB can be reached in ten minutes by car for when you fancy a longer ramble.

Situated at the southern end of Coniston Water, the fifth largest of the lakes, this barn conversion blends contemporary comfort with period details. The farm is believed to date back to the 17th century, and the surrounding landscape hasn't changed much in all that time. Lace up your hiking boots and follow any number of footpaths that pass right by the front door. Lake Bank pier is just ten minutes on foot and is perfect for summer swims, canoe launches and paddle boarding.  Alternatively, head north to Coniston Boating Centre for boat hire and trips on the beautifully restored Victorian steam-powered Gondola.
