Cross the gangplank onto this incredible floating home near the Thames. Moored just a couple of blocks from Tower Bridge, this former 1930s steel barge is a ten-minute walk from the Tower of London. The top deck has been converted into a long, open living space with views of St Katharine Docks Marina from the huge windows. We love the semi-outdoor dining room, housed in a glass atrium-style space to the rear of the ship, with seating for ten. Choose to relax in the stylish white lounge on the upper deck, or head downstairs to the snug with its u-shaped sofa around a striking suspended fireplace. Bedrooms are on the lower deck, but that doesn’t mean dark cabins with tiny portholes. Spacious rooms have walls of windows and if there are portholes, they’re the size of a bass drum, letting in tonnes of natural light. If you manage to bag the master bedroom, its en-suite comes with a sauna. Welcome aboard, matey!

This stylish apartment has a prestigious location in Shoreditch, in a landmark building designed by the renowned architects Foster + Partners. We love the ensuite bathroom, beautifully finished with marble. The open-plan living space is flooded with lots of natural light with large windows overlooking London. However, the absolute highlights here for us are the indoor lap pool and spa – perfect for relaxing after a busy day. There's also a residents' lounge, a state-of-the-art gym, and a cinema, so there's plenty to keep you occupied.

If all this wasn't enough, this home has a fabulous address. It's a twelve-minute walk to East London Tech City, otherwise known as Silicon Roundabout, while Spitalfields Market is a four-minute saunter. Twenty minutes on the DLR and you're in Canary Wharf, while twenty minutes tube ride in the opposite direction will take you to the heart of the City of London. There's plenty within walking distance too. You'll find a Sainsbury's and a Waitrose nearby for stocking up on essentials, while the Tower of London and Tower Bridge are a little over ten minutes' walk. Just under a five-minute walk from Brick Lane and Spitalfields Market, the area is jam-packed with cafes, restaurants, and fun-filled bars – ensure you check out all the vintage shops that line the streets here. And for those ticking off their city bucket list, Tower Bridge and Old Street are both within a half-hour walk from your door. Inside, we love how the rustic beams and exposed brick are softened by warm, modern furniture, abstract artwork and curated houseplants. Come together for a hearty meal around the repurposed-wooden dining table – prepared in the charming country-style kitchen. Although, with so much to eat, drink and do nearby, we think you'll be spending most of your time dining out. Of course, this area is also a nightlife hot spot, so expect to see people out and about all evening – however, the apartment itself is in a largely residential spot and consequently, very peaceful. There's a pleasant surprise too. Head out onto the amazing, communal roof terrace for some incredible city views over the big smoke. Pre-dinner drinks go down a treat up here.

Part of a converted warehouse in East London, this smart studio really packs a punch. It's bursting with personality and, despite its petite size, there's plenty of space to cook, eat and relax in style. Three large Victorian sash windows bring in plenty of natural light, while the kitchen has stone worktops and brand new German appliances – budding chefs will love creating their favourite dishes here. We especially liked the quirky House of Hackney wallpaper, featuring a colourful cast of animals, which you can admire before settling down for a great sleep in the vintage-style bed. Outside, you're in the perfect position to explore Shoreditch's restaurants, fashion boutiques and buzzing bars – this area is known for its independent spirit, and for good reason. And, if you want to head into central London to see the city's most iconic sights, simply hop on a local bus to arrive there in around half an hour.

With its contemporary design and quiet location, this home in Wapping ensures a restful stay in east London. There’s a private garden with a picnic bench for enjoying a bite to eat in the sunshine and an open-plan living space with everything you need for entertaining and relaxing. Overpackers and those planning an extended break should note there is limited storage space in the second bedroom. If you’d like to explore your surroundings, Wapping Woods is on your doorstep, and it takes around eleven minutes via the DLR to reach Bank tube station.

The Calling

This apartment sits more or less on the dividing line where central London ends and the east side of the city begins. You'll see that it's a clash of two cultures — in one direction, you have glass skyscrapers housing financial institutions close to Liverpool Street and on the other, it's reclaimed industrial space, street art on nearly every surface and the buzzy bars and clubs of Shoreditch. There's no doubting it's an interesting location, but this penthouse home is equally noteworthy. The standout feature here is the private wraparound balcony — south and west-facing, as well — which offers a wonderful setting for pre-dinner cocktails and even a glimpse of the Shard. Back inside, we're also big fans of the large open living area, decked out with bare wood flooring and fashionable grey furnishings. Prepare for negotiations over the bedrooms — one has direct access to the outdoor terrace, but the other has an inviting-looking bathtub in the ensuite. However, squabbles can wait until you've seen a bit of the city first. If you’re heading out for an evening meal, the famous Brick Lane is just four minutes' walk from your front door and boasts an impressive number of Bengali restaurants, as well as vintage stores and all-night bagel joints.

East is East

This hip two bedroom apartment is spacious like no other, with double doors throughout that amplify the sense of space even further. Although the kitchen might not be as soulful as some of our homes, you're located within a quiet residential block in what locals call the 'Shoreditch Triangle', minutes away from all the cafes, galleries and bars that make this area the trendiest in London. Due to its proximity to the City, The Calavera will suit business travellers who are also looking to take advantage of Shoreditch's bar and restaurant scene.
