It was a nice surprise to visit this property. Whilst the neighbourhood might not be the most exciting, the interiors certainly make up for it. The kitchen with its bright green steel beams and mid-century furniture has oodles of character. Find two beautiful double bedrooms on the first floor, and up a spiral staircase two fun singles for the kids, with views of neighbouring rooftops. A well-manicured garden is a bonus and children will love the trampoline at the back. The many unique aspects of this space, including the fireplace and artwork, make it a great addition to The Plum Guide.

The bright velvet sofas in the communal area provide a vintage feel to the space and lovers of modernism will appreciate the impressive art pieces displayed throughout the home. Outside, there’s a brilliant blue patio that adds a great sense of light to its adjoining rooms – it also makes for an excellent spot to sip your morning coffee. When you’re not cooking up something tasty in the pink painted kitchen, you’ll be brunching in Notting Hill’s chic cafes, a ten-minute walk away – or dining on Michelin star cuisine in well-to-do Mayfair, reached in twenty minutes by car. The famous Portobello Road Market is less than a fifteen-minute stroll from your doorstep and Ladbroke Grove tube station, connecting you to all four corners of the capital, is reached in a mere ten minutes on foot.

Close to upmarket Kensington and bohemian Notting Hill is the charming area of Brook Green. Known for its village atmosphere, period architecture and excellent transport links (Hammersmith, Goldhawk Road and Shepherds Bush stations are all within walking distance), this pocket of West London suits families, business travellers and those craving a quieter neighbourhood. Yet it's still close to excellent restaurants, cosy gastropubs, green spaces and plenty of shopping, with Westfield London (fifteen-minute stroll), Kensington High Street (twenty-minute walk) and Holland Park (thirty minutes on foot) all just a stone's throw away. This bright apartment in a picturesque mansion is the perfect place to rest your feet and recharge after a long day exploring. The fully-stocked kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up a meal, while the cosy living area has a comfortable sofa, Freeview channels and DVD player for chilled nights at home. There's also a desk if you need to do some remote working, though we'd probably get distracted watching the world pass by outside the window. But our favourite feature is the sumptuous rolltop bath. We can't think of a better way to end the day than with a glass of wine, a good book and a relaxing soak. Pure bliss.

This modern apartment is a lovely pick for small groups seeking a spot outside of Central London. This London home is all about location, location, location. Tucked away on a quiet mews, just off the iconic Portobello Road, you’re at the heart of fashionable Notting Hill. Needless to say, you’ll have shops and restaurants aplenty on the doorstep, and for reaching the capital’s must-sees, Ladbroke Grove Tube station is a five-minute walk away. With two kitchens, the home is a great option for a group or two families, as you can have a bit of space to yourselves if you need it. At full occupancy, guests seven and eight will be sleeping on the day bed in the small downstairs living/kitchen area, but with the larger living/kitchen/dining area upstairs, this needn’t be a deal-breaker.

It’s all about the location at this swish apartment in Shepherd’s Bush. Goldhawk Road underground station is an easy walk away, whisking you into the centre of London in a matter of minutes. Sticking around to explore the neighbourhood, you’ll find ample green space and pretty high streets lined with cosy pubs. Part of a set of serviced apartments, you won’t find homely bric-a-brac or odds and ends filling the surfaces, rather a sleek, open-plan living room and a full kitchen for self-catering. Plus two comfy bedrooms.

Its host Hugh is a curator and designer, and that comes across through bright wallpapers and beautiful furniture. Curios also reflect his time spent travelling around the world. There’s a superb modern kitchen, but the stand-out feature is a large, plant-filled roof terrace with views of London’s chimneys. Use the nearby Queen's Park nearby Underground station to go sightseeing, then return for celebratory sunset meals.

Master Curator

Vibrant cushions, art prints, a retro radio and just the right amount of clutter help this adorable flat major in homeliness. We particularly love those stained-glass kitchen windows, and the bathroom's hidden cabinet. Access to a private garden – rare and precious in London – is included, while the location in well-to-do Maida Vale puts you just north of London's main action. With plenty of quality eating spots about, it matters not that the window-seat table is a bit diminutive for dinners. 

Queen of Queen's Park

Immersed in the Notting Hill vibe, this apartment is within minutes of Portobello Market and the brunch paradise along Westbourne Grove. The facade is typical of West London on a tree-lined street, and inside it’s a romantic retreat perfect for a couple or solo traveller. Book-filled shelves surround the sofa in the living room, where the sash windows throw beams of sunlight across this cosy reading nook. The home has been decorated to perfection, with magenta and rose-red, velvety accents against a deep grey backdrop in the bedroom. The kitchen is compact, and comes stocked with basic groceries, but since the restaurants, brunch spots and cafés of Notting Hill are mere footsteps away you may not need to fire up the cooker. Though the fresh produce markets might tempt you into cooking.

Looking for a West London retreat? This contemporary Maida Vale apartment is the perfect spot. Stroll along the canals of Little Venice or explore Notting Hill’s boutiques, both within walking distance. With excellent transport links nearby, the city's cultural attractions are within easy reach, too. Inside, the space is thoughtfully designed. While one bedroom is on the snug side, it opens onto a charming courtyard – ideal for morning coffee or unwinding after a day out. Whether you’re here for a weekend or a longer stay, this home offers the perfect balance of city buzz and relaxation.

As soon as we stepped through the door, we instantly felt at ease in this basement-level apartment – its modern country style, neutral tones and thoughtful presentation make it cosy and welcoming. We loved the quaint, whitewashed courtyard with bistro seating – a great spot for an evening meal in the summer or leisurely breakfasts in the early morning. Both bedrooms overlook the patio so they are quiet and calm – you can guarantee a restful sleep night after night. The location is also ideal, right in the heart of Notting Hill and within a ten-minute walk of High Street Kensington. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to places to eat and drink – especially given your enviable position between two fantastic pubs. For picnics and quiet afternoons, Hyde Park is ten minutes away, while Notting Hill Gate tube station is just three minutes around the corner should you fancy a trip into central London.

Ideal for remote working, yoga sessions and chilled out evenings, you’ll find everything you could need to settle in and make it your own. We really liked the feel of this classic Notting Hill home, it’s stylish while also laid-back, which reflects the vibe of the neighbourhood. There’s a gas fire in the living room, charming wooden floors, and a glass chandelier in the bedroom. It’s filled with personal character too, such as the fashion photography and vintage sewing machine. While the kitchen is fairly small, it’s well stocked and there’s a great selection of cookbooks to inspire you. Another highlight is the generous balcony – enjoy a BBQ in the summer or cosy up with a cup of tea and a blanket in the winter.

A warm and welcoming family home in the heart of West London, this beautiful townhouse is the ideal base for you and your family to make the most of your time in the capital. Inside, the open kitchen/living room is the heart, with a large range cooker that's perfect for family feasts, with a nice breakfast table and cosy living room, complete with lots of books and a roaring fireplace. We can imagine lazy Sunday afternoons snoozing on the sofa after a roast. Upstairs, you'll find a second sitting room, with a laptop-friendly workspace in case those emails can't wait. All three bedrooms are decorated in neutral grey tones that help you unwind after a busy day, though the third bedroom mixes things up with some fun printed wallpaper, plus there's plenty of storage space so you can unpack and feel truly at home. At the very top of the house, you'll find a rooftop terrace overlooking the neighbourhood. It's an excellent spot for sundowners at the end of a busy day. And if you prefer your pints on draught, there are a couple of great local pubs. Elsewhere, Ravenscourt Park and the River Thames are close by, while the vast Westfield shopping centre takes care of your shopping needs. There isn't much need to venture into Central, but if you'd like to catch a show, then you're just over half an hour from London's glittering West End on the Piccadilly Line.

Before you reach the decked area out back with its outdoor dining table for six, you'll pass the sitting room, with its well-stocked bookshelves flanking the ornamental fireplace and an inviting sofa sitting in the bay window. The spacious and light-filled kitchen boasts yet more patio doors, in addition to a dining table with space for the whole group sat beneath a skylight.
