When we came across this apartment in Limestone – a hive of waterways, thriving pubs and local restaurants – it immediately caught our eye. From its private wraparound balcony, which offers stunning views of the surrounding cityscape, you can enjoy morning coffees or evening cocktails. And, if you're craving more space, there's a shared rooftop and a playground for the kids, too. Be in Canary Wharf in just five minutes or hop on the Underground to London City. No matter the case, this place has a lot going for it.

Cross the gangplank onto this incredible floating home near the Thames. Moored just a couple of blocks from Tower Bridge, this former 1930s steel barge is a ten-minute walk from the Tower of London. The top deck has been converted into a long, open living space with views of St Katharine Docks Marina from the huge windows. We love the semi-outdoor dining room, housed in a glass atrium-style space to the rear of the ship, with seating for ten. Choose to relax in the stylish white lounge on the upper deck, or head downstairs to the snug with its u-shaped sofa around a striking suspended fireplace. Bedrooms are on the lower deck, but that doesn’t mean dark cabins with tiny portholes. Spacious rooms have walls of windows and if there are portholes, they’re the size of a bass drum, letting in tonnes of natural light. If you manage to bag the master bedroom, its en-suite comes with a sauna. Welcome aboard, matey!

This unique, self-built home in Brockley starts to put on a show the moment guests walk down the quiet mews street on which it hides away. The striking rust-coloured and geometric exterior embraces industrial-chic trends, but it gives no indication of the sophisticated interior that lies behind the front door. Step inside and you'll find a magazine-worthy home where natural light is allowed to pour in through the glass doors and skylights, and colourful pieces of original artwork arranged tastefully about the place grab your attention. The furnishings are mainly mid-century and Scandinavian in inspiration, while the surfaces on the black kitchen are as sleek as they come. One of our favourite parts has to be the outside terrace, though, where a landscape gardener has packed plant beds full of native New Zealand plants and brings a touch of wilderness to this corner of South London. As only feels appropriate for this stylish home, it's located in and close to some of London's trendiest neighbourhoods, nestled in the trifecta of Lewisham, New Cross and Peckham.

Behind a beautifully renovated townhouse facade lies an interior that is bright and beautiful in equal measures. The living room has the feel of a contemporary art gallery, with high ceilings, parquet flooring and striking pieces on the wall. Although saying that, we haven't been to a gallery with such cute pastel-pink, tufted furnishings. 

The kitchen is just as striking, thanks to the large windows, the flurry of house plants and handsome marble surfaces. So striking in fact, that we crowned it 'kitchen of the year' on Instagram. As well as letting in copious amounts of natural light, the French door also leads out to a charming garden space with some seating for warm evenings. 

Upstairs, the bedrooms are both large and equipped with regal beds, while there's even a balcony space looking out over the rooftops of East London and the distant skyscrapers in The City. However, you don't even have to go far to find things to do in the neighbourhood. Just around the corner, there's the Castle Cinema — an Art Deco building reopened after a local crowdfunding campaign — and Chatsworth Market, which runs every Sunday with a great range of independent stalls.

Back inside, the long open-concept living space benefits from the huge floor-to-ceiling window at the end, which brings in copious amounts of natural light. The blue kitchen is as sleek as they come, with stone-composite work surfaces and in-built lighting, while the underfloor heating is sure to be appreciated in the winter months, too. The cherry on the cake is the building's communal gym, which guests are free to visit should they wish.

Outside, there’s a small but no-less-welcome terrace, which brings a tiny bit of nature into the breathable living space. Located in a lively and interesting part of the city, with the weekly Chatsworth Road Market on your doorstep, there’s plenty to explore, including a host of indy shops and eateries. And it’s only a ten-minute walk to Homerton overground station or twenty minutes to Hackney Central if you fancy seeing what else London has to offer.

When it comes to London neighbourhoods, some visitors are guilty of overlooking Farringdon, which is a pretty big sin in our books — not only is it excellently located between the bright lights of the city centre and the trendier East, but it's full of exciting restaurants, interesting museums and industrial architecture. It's also home to effortlessly cool apartments, such as this one.

In the open-concept living-kitchen area, light flows through the space thanks to windows on either end. The design is definitely Scandi in influence — clock the clean lines and preference for wood surfaces — but the abstract artwork stops it from feeling too identikit. Rather pleasingly for a home for two, the cobalt kitchen has a wealth of sleek surface space for whipping up romantic dinners, while the pristinely tiled bathroom has a tub that will surely sing to you after a long day on your feet.

Although the surrounding neighbourhood has a welcomingly quiet residential feel, some of the UK capital's most famous sights are only a short walk away — both The British Museum and St Paul's Cathedral will take you all of twenty minutes to reach.

A veritable cabinet of curiosities, this extraordinary Grade II-listed home tells a story at every turn. A real hidden gem, it's just off lively Mile End Road, tucked away behind wisteria and ivy-clad cast-iron railings. Private walled gardens add to the sense that you’re discovering a secret hideaway. The house was built in 1741 and rescued by the Spitalfields Trust before being purchased by a pair of collectors, one a British historian, and the other a landscape gardener. They poured their expertise, passion, and care into restoring every inch of this four-storey treasure trove, carefully applying layers of thin paints and chalks to the lime plaster walls – keep an eye out for the ornate chimneypiece that once had a home in the notorious Tom King’s Coffee House.

It’s a studio so privacy is limited but there’s plenty of space – you’ll have a fully-equipped kitchen, a laptop-friendly workspace, and a comfortable sofa (which converts into a bed to accommodate guests three and four). The Old Street setting puts you in easy reach of countless cafes, bars, and restaurants, as well as coworking spaces and cultural hotspots like the Barbican Centre. With London being as well connected as it is, this marvellous city is your oyster – Buckingham Palace is a forty-minute journey on public transport and from there you can easily take a twenty-five minute walk to Oxford Circus for a bit of shopping, or walk the same distance in a different direction and get to the London Eye where you can marvel at the amazing views over the city. Closer to home, you can spend an entire day at Victoria Park – an eight-minute walk away – just remember the picnic blanket, supplies and a good book, before ending your day with a cold pint in one of the many surrounding pubs

The apartment is modern and sleek, with high-end appliances and amenities to make your stay all the more comfortable – in winter, the underfloor heating is a real bonus. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living space, but for these views, we can easily forgive that.

With Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Soho's assorted delights just minutes away, you'll be able to explore some of the most vibrant and historic parts of the capital without even needing public transport. The apartment itself is an excellent find, too – there's a large and bright double bedroom, a kitchen equipped with good quality appliances, and a comfortable living area boasting designer furniture. With some of London's very best restaurants, museums and theatres on your doorstep, there are few better places to set down for your stay.

In buzzing Bethnal Green, this apartment makes a no-fuss base for first-time tourists and seasoned visitors alike. Here at Plum Guide, we love a bit of industrial chic, and this apartment certainly doesn't disappoint. There are exposed beams, stripped-back brick walls and a sleek kitchenette hidden by rolling-back wooden doors.
 

 Pour a glass of wine and relax on the yellow armchair or comfy sofa, surrounded by vibrant art. Through the Crittall-style doors, you'll find the main bedroom with its super king-sized bed. The second bedroom has a retro record player, so put some vinyl on and unwind before heading out for the evening.

The home consists of two separate apartments – although it won't suit everyone, there's plenty of space. In addition to a bedroom and a bathroom, each flat has its own kitchen and living space (just note that one is smaller). The cherry on top is the terrace overlooking the Shard – the perfect spot to nibble on goodies you got at the market.

Foodie's Paradise

This attractive apartment is a great choice of base in London, whether you’re in the city for business or leisure. It’s in Shoreditch, on lively Old Street, with a wealth of restaurants, bars, and cafes nearby. It’s also a hotspot for shopping, theatre, and galleries. With its modern amenities, this loft-style apartment is a comfortable home-from-home, though at full occupancy, four guests will sleep in the living and dining space – two on the sofa bed, and two in a king-size bed. This home is in a brilliant location to take full advantage. Within a two-minute walk, you can be in the thick of the action with many bars, restaurants and cafés a quick stroll away. We recommend checking out Blues Kitchen (a four-minute walk) for live jazz and soul music combined with awesome barbeque food. 

The apartment itself is a real staple of contemporary luxury in the heart of Shoreditch. Spend days exploring the culturally buzzing streets around (Brick Lane is a must, and only an eight-minute walk) before returning home to the feeling of being wrapped in warm white clouds when you get back to this cosy white-washed pad. We especially love the open feel of this apartment. The breakfast bar is sure to be a hub of your social activities, making meal times feel a lot more connected. East London’s vibrant areas span way further than well-known haunts like Shoreditch. Eleven minutes from Upton Park underground, this incredible designer loft is ideal for a creative space to relax in. This red-brick building was formerly the cafeteria of a Boy’s Club in the 1930s. 

The architect of the Queen Elizabeth Ocean Liner designed this home – so you know you can expect something special. Boho meets Art Deco and Bauhaus inside this loft, with dark wood flooring and unique wood panelling featured throughout the space. 

Leaving the building, you’ll descend a truly historic staircase. You might even feel as if it's channeling the vibes of the grand staircase on a royal ocean liner. Hop on public transport to reach East London in less than twenty minutes. This area is awash with high street shops, international restaurants, beer gardens, and rooftop bars.

To really immerse yourself into London culture, stay on the tube a bit longer to reach Central London. Here, you'll find fascinating museums, chic art galleries and the beautiful parks that define the landscape.
