When it comes to London neighbourhoods, some visitors are guilty of overlooking Farringdon, which is a pretty big sin in our books — not only is it excellently located between the bright lights of the city centre and the trendier East, but it's full of exciting restaurants, interesting museums and industrial architecture. It's also home to effortlessly cool apartments, such as this one.

In the open-concept living-kitchen area, light flows through the space thanks to windows on either end. The design is definitely Scandi in influence — clock the clean lines and preference for wood surfaces — but the abstract artwork stops it from feeling too identikit. Rather pleasingly for a home for two, the cobalt kitchen has a wealth of sleek surface space for whipping up romantic dinners, while the pristinely tiled bathroom has a tub that will surely sing to you after a long day on your feet.

One of our favourite rooms is the main bathroom, which has a soaker tub and two lavish showers. There's also a second (albeit slightly smaller) suite, so nobody will feel left out. Upstairs, the living area opens onto a Juliet balcony with views of the mews, and there's a large kitchen ideal for culinarians. The cherry on top is the location. You're just a stone's throw from Harrods, Hyde Park, and the many eateries and shops in swanky Knightsbridge.

This home feels very relaxed and inviting with plenty of room to hang out, socialise and dine together in the open space. What really makes this place special, however, is the location – found on a mews street just off the popular Westbourne Grove, this is a coveted spot with many great options for shopping and dining on your doorstep. As long as you don't mind a little noise from the restaurant below, this home is ideally placed. It's a ten-minute walk from the vintage markets along Portobello Road, while Hyde Park can be reached in twenty minutes on the Tube.

Originally built in the 1730s, this sumptuous apartment is a shining example of Georgian architecture. The building is one of the oldest in Mayfair – in 1821, famed Buckingham Palace architect Thomas Cubbit extended it – and you can see the character, history and period details in every room. It feels like a home you want to linger in, with new surprises waiting at every turn. We love the antique furniture – a clawfoot desk here, a fauteuil armchair there – but the smart kitchen, stylish bathroom and mod-cons like a rainfall shower, espresso machine and Netflix bring things in the 21st-century. We think it's the best of both worlds, and the location is even better.

Ritzy and charming, Mayfair is home to leafy squares, cobbled lanes lined with cafes and some of the oldest shops in London. Fashionistas will enjoy shopping along New Bond Street and Saville Row (a five-minute walk away), art fiends can browse the nearby galleries and auction houses (Phillips Auction House & Gallery is right next door) and foodies will love the bevvy of gourmet eateries nearby. With Bond Street Station only six minutes away on foot, travelling around the rest of the city is easy – perfect if you fancy a bit of sightseeing.

This Mayfair apartment is ideal for those who desire as central an address as possible in London without sacrificing stylish interiors or having the comforts of modern living at hand. You might think it's asking a lot, but this home delivers on all fronts. There's a huge amount of space here, with the expansive open-plan living area and kitchen an innately social place for guests to gather, while the bedrooms each have an en-suite and tons of storage space. This chic apartment matches its Knightsbridge location perfectly. You'll be just a short walk from Harrods, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Hyde Park, and well-connected Tube stations – if that's not central, we don't know what is. It's set on the ground and lower-ground floors of a Georgian townhouse, so expect original features like bay windows and cornice ceilings. Topping it all off is the private terrace – just the spot for a cup of tea in the sunshine.

With its all-white interior design and tranquil views of Inverness Terrace, White Doves is a peaceful home. A beautiful Bayswater sanctuary (just steps away from Hyde Park), it’s one of those places that you look forward to coming home to at the end of a long day of sightseeing. We can’t get over all the period features – the picture-perfect crown moulding and the charming windows being our favourite parts. On top of that, Jane is also a wonderful host, who’s put a lot of care into designing a seamless space filled with a welcoming atmosphere.

Part of a Grade II-listed building in oh-so-charming Marylebone, this snug apartment offers high ceilings, large windows, and a touch of character. With the help of award-winning architects and first-class designers, the style is the perfect mix of contemporary and cosy – think antique Persian rugs, tweed-covered sofas, and curated artwork. It's not the biggest, so it suits solo travellers and couples. Your host can also organise private chefs, airport transfers, and discounts to a nearby health club. Factor in the prime location, close to Oxford Street, Regent's Park, and the Tube, and you'll see why it ticks our boxes.

The bedroom is generously sized too, as is the sleek white kitchen, which will stand up to home-cooking duties should you tire of the countless restaurants that surround your address. Soho Square Gardens sits a minute's walk up the road if you want somewhere to people-watch, while there are a wide range of comedy clubs, theatres and late-night dancefloors in a radius of ten minutes' walk or so to keep you occupied once the sun goes down.

People can often be daunted when it comes to incorporating colour into interior design, but this Notting Hill apartment shows how it can be done without going over the top.

The mustard and green furnishings in the living room are instantly uplifting and go nicely with the weathered wood of the coffee table. The addition of two arched window mirrors helps accentuate the plentiful amount of natural light that comes in through the large windows. Elsewhere, the kitchen in a deep shade of green has plenty of sleek surface space for preparing home-cooked dinners, while the bathrooms play it comparatively safer with the dazzlingly white tiles.
