Summer’s evenings are spent in the fragrant country garden drinking Pimms and looking out over meadowland, and in the winter months, the wood burner keeps the cosiness levels running high. You’re just a short drive from North Norfolk’s stunning sandy beaches, and the bustling town of Burnham Market. Well, the location is great – this home is situated in Burnham Market, a picturesque, leafy village with plenty of boutiques, while about six miles away lies Wells-next-the-Sea.

Although it’s worth noting the home’s low beams and restricted head height might not suit the vertically blessed. With no amenities within walking distance, you’ll need a car here. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

Holkham Estate is one of the most striking and popular stately homes on the North Norfolk Coast, and for good reason. Its rich history and impressive grounds blow away all that come to see it. Perched a five-minute stroll away from Caister-on-Sea Beach, this spot offers an idyllic setting for a family to come together for a refreshing break by the sea. Inside the home, a vast open plan living area, furnished with timeless furniture and decoration offers a sophisticated space to relax all year round. Whether you visit during the sunny summer's months or in the chill of winter, this home remains a warm, welcoming and tranquil place to retreat to when seeking an escape from the mundane. From the living space, large glass sliding doors invite in plenty of natural daylight from the outside patio – perfect for relaxing amidst the sea air. Fire up the barbecue or chill with a book in hand on the corner sofa, before heading down to the beach to catch the sunset. And if you head upstairs (and stand on tiptoes), you can catch a glimpse of the sea from the attic window – the beach is just 300 metres away after all. With three great waterways clamouring for your attention – the River Yare, Breydon Water lake, and the North Sea – the town of Great Yarmouth is quite the destination for watersports fans and beach bums. An eight-minute walk to Great Yarmouth Beach, this penthouse flat is perfectly located for shaking off the sand and cosying up after a long day of exploring. Set in a majestic, red-brick building in a Victorian style, you’ll be impressed from the offset. Ascending to the top floor, it only gets better. From up here, you’ve got gorgeous views of local sights like St George’s Plaza from a triple set of sash windows in the lounge. Pop a bottle of prosecco, say cheers to the start of the holiday, and check out the bustling scene below. In contrast, the apartment is fairly understated. Minimalist furniture and a sleek, white kitchen create a calming atmosphere, but a playful edge comes through with the dark turquoise feature wall. It’s a similar story in the bedrooms, with neutral tones, white, and yellow dominating the colour palette – ideal for relaxing after you return from an evening in the pub.

You'll also notice the calming green views over the village pond and rolling hills throughout the home. Beckoning you to the great outdoors, step into the large back garden – complete with an alfresco dining table, an expansive lawn and a variety of lush plants. If you’re travelling with children, they’ll be particularly delighted by the village playground and the feeding of the ducks in the pond. But the real highlight of this home is the luxury spa area with a bubbling hot tub and steam shower for the ultimate rest and relaxation. If you can peel yourself away from the tub, and decide to explore the beautiful natural surroundings, there are plenty of lovely county walks and footpaths nearby. Grassmere

Looking at this modern home, set in the rural countryside of Norfolk, you might not be fully convinced of its former life as a dilapidated cattle farm, but the clues are there if you know where to look. The wooden beams, for one, add plenty of character and warmth, and so does the exposed brick.

The other benefit of it having been a farm, is that there is acreage for days. In almost every direction you look, you’ll be met with untamed flora to make mornings seated out front with a fresh coffee the sort of peaceful affair you need to fully unwind. On balmier days, spend time out barbecuing, a local cider in hand, or if that seems like too much effort, open the bifold doors and let the breeze into the living area where we hope you’ll be plopped on the sofa with a good book.

Between this gorgeous space – inside and out – and the hot tub, you might not have time for much else, but don’t let the quintessential pub visit stay on the bucket list. Besides, there’s nothing like a fish and chip lunch after a visit to one of the sandy beaches.

This delightful fisherman’s cottage is located in the heart of Blakeney, set within an Area of Outstanding Beauty. The Quay is just a stone’s throw away, which provides ample opportunities for walks, crabbing and visiting local restaurants, as well as for venturing along the coastal path to Morston or Cley-next-the-Sea. This home is also the perfect base for enjoying day trips spent sailing and birdwatching, and children will love going on a boat trip and spotting the seal colony at Blakeney Point. Venture inland to visit the elegant Georgian town of Holt and lose yourself among its many antique shops, art galleries, boutiques and book shops. After a day of activities and taking in the coast’s colossal beauty, return home for a meal alfresco in its large garden and an evening spent playing board games or chatting around the fireplace. With Blakeney Deli and The White Horse gastropub just a short stroll from your front door, this charming cottage and its location tick all the right boxes for a memorable coastal escape.

Quay Cottage

This charming cottage feels like a step back in time. It sits in the former stable block of an elegant Georgian Estate, dating back to the early-seventeenth century. Now a working farm, it's surrounded by four hundred acres of gloriously green pastures and ancient parkland – inhabited by herds of red deer, muntjac and an array of birdlife – which you're encouraged to explore. Here, you're just shy of a twenty-minute drive from the picturesque cathedral city of Norwich and the enchanting Norfolk Broads.

The exquisitely renovated interior is cosy and welcoming. Hardwood floors, exposed brickwork, and beam-clad ceilings offer a characterful canvas primed for relaxation. We especially love the sitting room with its plush velvet sofas and wood-burning fireplace, not to mention the delightful country-house kitchen, where a spacious dining table offers a lovely space for homecooked feasts with your clan. 

Framed by a grade-two listed stone wall and dense woodland, a private south-facing garden beckons you to feel completely immersed in nature. After a restful slumber in Egyptian cotton linens, step outside and enjoy your morning brew to the sound of birdsong and gently rustling leaves. Between adventures, spend your days sunbathing on the lawn, reading in the conservatory and, come sunset, sipping cocktails on the furnished patio.

Echoes of Spring

As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Framing the original entrance to a private countryside estate just a stone's throw from the Norfolk Broads, this charming gatehouse marries characterful rural features with modern comforts. For a restorative escape, this beautifully renovated home is an idyllic place to make memories amidst a 300-acre historic parkland. 

Wake up to chirping birds from your plush bed before preparing a leisurely breakfast in your country kitchen of farm-fresh eggs and crusty rye bread – we think the patio dining table is a serene spot to enjoy your hard work, accompanied by a freshly brewed coffee.  

Spend a day exploring the grounds or spot the local birdlife on a water-trail boat tour on The Broads. Not all the best attractions are saved for the summer months – head to Horsey Beach in the winter to see the grey seals during the birthing season. Regardless of the time of year, this piece of sandy beach is a pleasure all year round – you might still catch views of seals who’ve stuck around for some sun. If you're seeking a culinary experience, there are some charming local pubs in the area. As evening rolls around, pocket a few balls on the pool table, and enjoy a round of table tennis or air hockey, before sinking into the garden hot tub for a soak session under the stars.

Gatehouse Gardens

This Grade II Listed cottage has a fantastic location right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. Do some beachcombing on Wells-next-the-Sea Beach (around twenty minutes on foot). Then, afterwards, have a stroll along the Quay, a one-minute walk away, and enjoy some fish and chips or pick up some catch of the day from the pretty harbour. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants, as well as a delicatessen, butchers and fishmonger within a five-minute stroll. Take some local produce back to this lovely home, prepare a meal in the modern kitchen, and then savour it at the table in the sunny courtyard. Or when the weather turns chilly, light the log burning stove (your lovely host provides a starter pack of logs in the colder months) and relax with a glass of wine on the sofa. This stylish cottage is everything you would want from a seaside retreat – we love the original features, such as the old beams, which blend beautifully with the chic furnishings. With so much out and about, too, you’ll probably need to book again to fit it all in.

Guillemot

Grab your bucket and spades and hit the Norfolk coast at this modern, family home just a ten-minute stroll from the beach. Located in the charming seaside village of Caister-on-Sea, just north of Great Yarmouth, it's the village's endless sandy beach that's the biggest draw, and rightly so. An ideal starting point for inspiring coastal walks to Hemsby, Winterton, or Great Yarmouth; there's plenty of Norfolk's expansive coastlines to discover from here. Or for a spot of culture, head to Caister's 15th-century old castle (five-minute drive away) - now home to a royal range of vintage cars. When tummies start to rumble, there are pubs for hearty grub within walking distance and, of course, an obligatory fish and chip shop. Or head home for a barbecue in your private enclosed garden, where kids and dogs can roam free with sandy toes. Inside, this home is perfectly set up for an easy family holiday. Upstairs there are smart, clutter-free spaces, including a nursery room with a cot ready to go. Downstairs, the large breakfast bar in the kitchen is a fantastic spot to all come together to rustle up breakfast and hatch plans for a day exploring. Although with that glorious beach just a stroll away, we wouldn't blame you if you stayed precisely where you are.

Castles Made of Sand

If you’re looking for a real away-from-it-all retreat that’s truly one of a kind, then look no further than this home on the Norfolk Coast. Featured on Channel 4's Homes by the Sea, it’s located right next to the dunes at Winterton-on-Sea, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A former working lighthouse, it’s perfect for a peaceful stay with a surreal fairytale quality. When we visited, we were particularly impressed by the unusual round rooms that stack up on top of one another. Once filled with nautical equipment, these are now well designed spaces with beautiful furniture and objects, including an impressive library, bunk-bed room for kids, living room, and finally a lofty viewing platform bedroom (not for the faint hearted). Down on ground level you’ll find a contemporary open-plan space where you can cook in the shiny stainless steel kitchen or bask in the warmth of the wood burner as you eat dinner in the relaxed dining area. Folding doors give access out into the small garden for picnics or al fresco breakfasts. Families in particular will love the easy access to seaside life, including great fish and chips, good local pubs, parks and boat-trips. The Norfolk Broads is also nearby; the UK's largest wetland area, it's perfect for boating, cycling and walking. In short, this is a great home for those who want to experience everything a Norfolk staycation has to offer, while staying somewhere with real wow factor.

This baby blue timber lodge is just as cute on the inside as it is on the outside. As well as having all the essentials for a romantic getaway, there are house plants, colourful pieces of artwork and a turquoise accent wall to give the place a bit of character without overdoing it — one of the hosts is an interior designer, can't you tell? Out through the glass door, there's a large garden with a cosy seating area at the far end and plenty of potted plants dotted about. You'll find that there's a real sense of peace here. The local village of Banningham is small — albeit with a well-recommended gastropub — and there are plenty of outdoor excursions to fill your days with nearby. The birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Blickling Estate, takes ten minutes to reach in the car, while Cromer Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.

You'll find this imposing home set within a 300-acre historic parkland at the centre of a North Norfolk private estate. The former home of the head gardener, this Georgian building boasts its own walled garden and numerous character features – not least its beautiful arched windows. A simple, elegant cottage that's been modernised without losing its charm, it's now perfect for a special break in the countryside.

Spend your time walking in the wider parkland, head to the nearby Broads or drive to the coast in less than half an hour.

While this is a modern build, and a well-presented one at that, there's a warmth here with the vibrant scatter cushions, comfy throws and green houseplants that makes it feel like home right away. The real highlight of the apartment is outside space – complete with garden furniture, a barbecue and a tall wooden fence for added privacy – sitting out on the patio with a glass of chilled wine is a dreamy way to bookmark any day if you ask us. Perfectly placed, walk to sandy Great Yarmouth Beach in less than twelve minutes and be at Nelson's Monument and the lively town centre in under half an hour. We'd especially recommend a trip to the Merrivale Model Village if you're after a fun family day out – as with most of the popular attractions, it's well within reach here.

Located just a seven-minute walk from the charming riverbank village of Horning, you'll have easy access to all of the local inns, restaurants, small shops and tea rooms. Back inside, it's a modern, beautifully decorated house with all of the mod-cons needed for larger groups to enjoy a comfortable stay. The colourful, light-filled living room benefits from bi-folding patio doors that extend out to a crowd-pleasing garden that boasts a spa-style hot tub, bar area and outdoor seating, so you can spend lazy evenings dipping in-and-out of the jacuzzi, sipping drinks and swapping stories. On chillier nights, chum up and challenge your friends and family to a round of pool or foosball in the games room. Dating back to 1715, this Grade 2 listed ale house in the North Norfolk town of Holt is a delightful escape. Recently refurbished, the owners have taken great care to restore the original wooden beams, brickwork and fireplaces. We love the bedrooms, all named after teas. After a busy day, there’s nothing better than relaxing in front of the wood burner with some fish and chips from across the road. And of course, pour yourself a pint. You're in a former pub after all.

Surrounded by bustling bars, cafés and shops, you'll have plenty to do in the area. Spend the day strolling through the village – we recommend browsing the local art galleries or having a spot of afternoon tea at one of the many tearooms (there's a charming one right next door). If you're longing for sea and sand, drive fifteen minutes and you'll reach Sheringham Beach and the Norfolk Coast. 


Ale House Dreams

You can just tell by looking at this small home perched above the Sheringham coastlinethat there's an interesting backstory. And there is – it was once a Victorian toilet block until it fell out of use and was brought by the owner as a gift for his wife. Today, you'll find a truly unique home that brings you as close to the beach as you can get.

The first thing that will command your attention is the uninterrupted views of the North Sea, which you can admire from the floor-to-ceiling glass doors or with the wind on your face as you stand on the balcony. Despite the humble size of the home, the design doesn't feel cramped in the slightest, especially the horse-shoe-shaped kitchen that is more than big enough to cook up some hearty home-cooked fare. The only drawback is a lack of a dining table, but the balcony furniture can be used to seat all four inside.

As a glance out the windows will show you, Sheringham's beach can be reached in a matter of moments and you can continue wandering along the promenade into the town centre. Turning away from the sea, there are plenty of rural attractions to discover in surrounding Norfolk, including Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate only fifteen minutes' drive away.

Set on the first and second floors of a converted chapel, this apartment has everything you'd expect from a refurbished church – a grand entranceway, stained glass windows, ample living spaces and soaring ceilings. Just take those traditional features and combine them with hand-picked antiques, a playful colour palette and one-of-a-kind art pieces, and you've got this quirky hideaway in the heart of Holt. We're absolutely smitten with the whimsical vibe, be it the seashell feature wall in the master bath, the vintage furniture in the downstairs lounge or the collection of cutesy crockery lining the kitchen walls. There are a lot of modern conveniences too, including a Bluetooth speaker, two flat-screen TVs and a remote-controlled shower. And the location couldn't be better – on your doorstep are Holt's charming shops, cosy pubs, quaint cafes and local art galleries. After a day strolling through town or exploring North Norfolk, come back home to fire up the barbecue in the garden for an alfresco meal. Then unwind with a soak in the tub or pop a vinyl on the record player as you relax on the sumptuous sofas, a glass of bubbly in hand.

Have A Little Faith

This pretty flint barn is just as characterful on the inside as it is on the outside. Relax under the warm wooden beams and exposed brick walls. In the morning, stroll down to the heated indoor pool and work up an appetite in the water before eating breakfast in the farmhouse kitchen. In the evening, gather in the lounge to have fun and play board games. Based just on the outskirts of Cromer, be sure to sample the town's iconic crab on your visit. Spend a day on the sandy beach, stroll on the pier and take in the traditional seafront food, independent shops and entertainment. History buffs and nature enthusiasts rejoice - there are plenty of National Trust sites and Areas of Outstanding Beauty nearby and the gorgeous Norfolk Broads are just a 45 minute drive away.

There are too many good things about The Hobart Spring to list, but suffice to say that it’s every bit as good as it looks. Most of the buildings date to the 1470s, when Sir James Hobart (later attorney general to the king) built his family home. Our favourite room (not an easy decision) is the kitchen, which looks beautifully traditional, but alongside the Aga, has an electric oven, gas hob, espresso machine and more. You can also pick herbs from the raised beds in the back. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

A rural retreat with an almost embarrassing amount of charm, this thatched home dates back centuries and represents the best of Norfolk's architectural style. Carefully modernised and curated with stylish wall colours, art and a mix of antique and contemporary furniture, it's a fabulous space to unwind in unique surroundings. As well as a stunning historic home, it boasts a large, enclosed garden and a summer house to die for.  

Inside, the stripped-back, authentic character of this place is evident in the ancient beams, brick floors and inglenook fireplace. A comfy velvet sofa provides a modern twist but otherwise, the living room is dressed like it would have been a hundred years ago or so. Elsewhere there's a delightful country kitchen, a casual dining room and a midnight-blue TV room, along with a useful utility room and three gorgeous bedrooms.

And outside you'll find pretty gardens, along with a greenhouse and a deck for enjoying the sun. Step inside the summer house for the biggest surprise though. A lovely space for friends and family to socialise and eat together, it comes with a Scandinavian-style indoor barbecue cabin. 

Around half an hour's drive from both Diss and Norwich, you'll be deep in the country here so a car is essential, but there are great walks to be had nearby and the coast is around forty-five minutes away. Visit Southwold, Lowestoft and more for days out by the sea.
