Country Coach House

Situated within the idyllic Gotha Gardens at Pembroke Farm, this cottage stays true to its farmhouse heritage without giving up on any modern luxuries. Whitewashed beams adorn the ceilings in the living room, vibrant flatwoven rugs lay on oak floors and an ornamental fireplace takes centre stage. It's the perfect spot to kick back and relax after a long walk through the gardens and the open layout makes it easy to socialise while others rustle up a meal in the French farmhouse-style kitchen. During the summer, head out to the terrace overlooking the courtyard for a cup of tea or evening tipple, surrounded by lush potted plants and pretty flowers. But the best part of this home is the access to the Gotha Gardens. Stroll among the greenery, stopping to smell the roses and nibble on a slice of cake in the courtyard cafe. When you can pull yourself away from this verdant hideaway, it's only a quick drive to Ashwell – home to beautiful architecture and three county pubs – and stately homes like Wimpole Hall and Knebworth House are easily reachable. If you crave a little hustle and bustle, Cambridge is less than forty minutes by car.

Order an Ocado, Sainsbury’s or Tesco delivery directly to the cottage in time for your day of arrival, so that the fridge is well-stocked from day one. Grab a book and snuggle up, following an afternoon of hiking and exploring the local countryside – you'll be nestled in an enviable rural location here with scenic views across the Fenland countryside. It goes without saying that the outdoorsy type will fall truly in love with this address as guests will have access to fishing, cycling, canoeing, walking and bird-watching – all in less than a twenty-minute drive away. If you're looking for a countryside retreat for a larger group – it's worth knowing that the host also has three other cottages on-site which in total can sleep up to sixteen guests. 


Riverside Bungalow

This beautiful home in North Wootton is an ideal base for exploring King’s Lynn, Sandringham, and the best of the North Norfolk Coast. There's plenty to see and do, with beaches, parks, and countryside walks all close by. Inside, the home is stylishly designed with modern touches to create a warm and welcoming feel. The kitchen and dining area open onto a private patio and garden, complete with a table, chairs, and a barbecue, making it ideal for enjoying the warmer days.

Northern Manor

This quirky converted church makes for an ideal creative countryside retreat. The open-plan downstairs, where the pews used to be, has been given over to create a vast double-height space with one double bedroom leading off it and a single and master bedroom found upstairs. The building was originally constructed as a Methodist chapel, and it retains some of that spiritual atmosphere, with a piano, drum kit and guitar – plus a fully equipped kitchen – at hand for whenever musical or culinary inspiration strikes.  Located in the village of Briston and just fifteen minutes from the coast, it's a great base to explore the natural beauty of the area and charming towns like Holt and Cromer. The butcher, baker and greengrocer (no candlestick maker, unfortunately), plus a Co-op, are only around a hundred metres away. At the same time, the local pub serves good food and is only a short walk away. If you'd like to see how the other half live, there are many stately homes and gardens to visit nearby, including Sandringham, the Blickling Estate and Holkham Hall, all within a thirty-five-minute drive.


Oh, Happy Day

If you're looking for a luxurious, romantic retreat in Norfolk – this newly refurbished cottage could be the place for you. Unwind with a glass of Champagne in the hot tub at the end of the beautiful garden, filled with roses and other cottage garden plants. Later, settle down in the reading corner, next to the log burner, with a good book and a glass of wine from the wine chiller. We adore the vistas over the green and village pond from this cottage – it's the picture-perfect view. As night falls, have a long soak in the free-standing bath with the organic toiletries provided – utter bliss. Your lovely hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, from bathrobes and slippers to treats for your four-legged friends (if you're bringing the pooch). The next day enjoy breakfast in the light, contemporary glass dining room overlooking the garden. Then, pop over the road for lunch if you don't fancy cooking – one of the top five gastropubs in the area is right opposite. Afterwards, perhaps walk off all that lovely food with a stroll around the village with its pretty duck ponds. For a day at the beach – Old Hunstanton Beach is a thirty-minute drive away – so you can have the best of both coast and country. It doesn't get much more idyllic than this. 

The Shelduck

This beautifully restored barn conversion is tucked away in the peaceful village of Eastmoor. It has all the character features you’d expect, including vaulted ceilings and original timber beams. We love the open-plan living area with its grand piano and log burner, creating a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Outside, the sunny garden is perfect for alfresco dining. And when you want to explore, there are plenty of countryside walks on your doorstep. The market town of Swaffham is a short drive away, where you’ll find traditional pubs, local shops, farmers’ markets, and tearooms. Or make a beeline for the North Norfolk coast with its stunning beaches.

Norfolk Meadows

This old dairy, set on the Burghley Estate, is a peaceful getaway for large groups and makes a pretty picture for small celebrations. Throughout the restoration of the dairy and its conversion into cottages, an emphasis remained on the history of this building, and plenty of the original features remain to make this a charming and comfortable stay. With two wings, it also grants everyone plenty of space, though the mezzanine bedrooms can only be accessed through several ground-floor rooms, which might not feel the most private. Still, it's a beautiful space, and the estate is within the Capability Brown Parkland, first landscaped in the early 1700s and still as lush and inviting, perfect for walks with the dogs.

The Cottage Soul

We can see why this cottage was in The Sunday Times' Coolest 100 Cottages' list – it's a Jacobean dream, full of original character and quirky features. Once home to the miller of Plomesgate Mill, it now houses wonderful antiques, such as a fantastic 1700s Breton bed built straight into the wall, a gorgeous oak four-poster and a working 1800s kitchen range. 

Enjoy a tasty full English breakfast (courtesy of the welcome hamper provided by your lovely hosts Beverley and Martin) in the farmhouse style kitchen. Or when the Suffolk sun is shining, dine in the pretty, wisteria clad courtyard. If you’re lucky enough to be here in August and September, there's a mulberry bush in the grounds that guests are welcome to pick fruit from – perfect for making some jam or muffins.

Something else we adore here is the owner’s beautiful private nature reserve behind this home. Take the dogs for a walk through the meandering footpaths that wind through meadows and ancient woodland. In spring, you’ll see captivating carpets of cheerful daffodils, bluebells and primroses. Whatever time of year you come, though, you’ll be treated to an array of wildlife, from nuthatches to woodpeckers.
 
There are maps to find the footpaths going onwards to Snape Maltings, an arts complex on the banks of the River Alde, just over two miles away. Or head to Aldeburgh (seven minutes in the car) – you can borrow some bikes and cycle there in around thirty minutes too.



Jacobean Gem

Nestled on the edge of Holkham Estate, this lodge is somewhere you can truly immerse yourself in nature yet still have the coast within easy reach. Perfect for couples and those keen to bring their four-legged friends along for the stay, there are countryside walks from your doorstep, with a stroll through Holkham Park a must. The enclosed garden is just the place for wildlife spotting as you relax in the evening, while locally, if you fancy a beach day, Holkham Bay is just a short drive away. 

The Sea Is You

Originally built in the 1700s as a winnowing barn, this cosy cottage conversion is part of the Old Grove Farm, and is one of six homes around a large central courtyard. Begin your morning here with a welcome basket breakfast, served at the Millstone breakfast bar. Then explore the acres of orchards and meadows, with your four-legged friend trotting by your side. For lunch, why not follow the footpaths through the open countryside to the dog-friendly pub, which is just a fifteen-minute walk away? 

In the late afternoon, we would love to curl up on the sofa with a good book in front of the roaring fire or lounge beneath the apple and pear trees in the beautiful orchard. 

From inside the house, handmade oak windows in the living room, cut through the floor to the bedroom above affording amazing views, while a handmade iron balcony is a great vantage point to watch the sunset from. 

In the summer months, the large open-sided ‘Cart Lodge’ has a barbecue which can be pulled out, or you could simply sit beneath the lodge’s fairy lights and gaze at the stars of the night-time sky. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the wildlife – bats, badgers, hares, rabbits, deer and birds ¬– that share this land. 

Despite its rural setting, this cottage is only a five to ten-minute drive from supermarkets, cafés, museums, and the river Stour. Kersey, widely regarded as Suffolk’s prettiest village, is only a ten-minute cycle ride from the home. Plus, Lavenham – England’s best-preserved Medieval Village – is just a fifteen-minute drive away, where you will also find great quality restaurants such as The Great House or The Swann. Meanwhile, a day out to the unspoilt Suffolk coast is roughly an hour’s drive away to reach places like Pin Mill, Nacton, Levington, Orford, Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Southwold, and Mersey Island. 

Orchard Farmhouse

Arrive at this palatial and stately home – a former Royal residence of Prince Victor Duleep Singh, the Godson to Queen Victoria – in the east of England’s lush Norfolk countryside and be transported to a bygone era of sophistication, refinement and absolute elegance. Perfect for a large family celebration or just an indulgent rural escape together, the sprawling grounds are glorious and the interiors are renovated with all the desired modern conveniences, without losing the home's rustic regality. Part the velvet drapes enclosing your four-poster bed and wake to views of magical forests. Enjoy breakfasts in the garden, afternoon tea around the light and airy dining area, and evening cocktails down in the cellar – we really loved the traditional pub-style entertainment area and bar here. Active types may opt for a clay pigeon shoot, a game of tennis or a jog around the grounds, following the private trails. While the others gather around the log-burning fire, curling up with a good book and even a sing-along around the grand piano – you'll notice the royal patterned wallpaper, large picture windows and ceiling mouldings. Whatever you choose to do here, ensure you round off a lovely day with a tipple in the private jacuzzi and alfresco dining on your delightful patio area. Grace personified.
