With a beautiful walled garden and hot tub, this home is a great place to chill out. There’s plenty of room for lounging, barbecuing and dining here, or you could cook in the beautifully appointed kitchen with its Quooker tap among other kitchen amenities. The living room has that country essential, a log burner, too. We love the bedrooms here – one has French doors that open onto the courtyard front garden, while the other has a Juliet balcony. What about the address? Well, the location is great – this home is situated in Burnham Market, a picturesque, leafy village with plenty of boutiques, while about six miles away lies Wells-next-the-Sea.

The village has built its reputation on local businesses, quality, and uniqueness – and it's all within easy reach of the Norfolk Coast's sandy beaches. Such a great village deserves an appropriately unique stay, which is where this home comes in. The stone exterior gives the whole place a country feel, but the contemporary, velvety interior guarantees a comfortable stay. It's well-suited to families, and your host has made sure to make it feel as welcoming as possible. Each room is filled with light, especially the open-plan, dual-aspect kitchen and living area. That said, our favourite spot to unwind is the private garden. With a pizza oven, heated pavilion, and views of Westgate Orchard, it's the definition of an idyllic escape.

The host is an interior designer with a true collector’s eye and has filled the cottage with an eclectic mix of vintage pieces and curios. From taxidermy vignettes to Serge Moullie inspired art, there are unexpected details at every turn. 

Summer’s evenings are spent in the fragrant country garden drinking Pimms and looking out over meadowland, and in the winter months, the wood burner keeps the cosiness levels running high. You’re just a short drive from North Norfolk’s stunning sandy beaches, and the bustling town of Burnham Market. If you don’t feel like a drive, the surrounding countryside is ripe for walking, and the local pub is just five minutes away.

On arrival at the idyllic Holkham Estate on the North Norfolk coast, you’ll feel like you’ve walked right onto the set of Downton Abbey. You’ll find this charming gatehouse from the mid-1800s on the southern fringes of the estate. Its style is simple and elegant, which lets the gorgeous countryside on the other side of the decorative lead windows do all the talking. Touches such as the log burner in the living room and a winged velvet sofa keep things cosy and faithful to the home’s character. There’s plenty of hiking and cycling to enjoy on the estate, not to mention checking out the grand main house, one of the UK's most spectacular country piles. But our top tip is the windswept Holkham Beach – an unspoilt stretch of coast where Gwyneth Paltrow walked through the sand in the last scene of Shakespeare in Love.

Located in the pretty coastal village of Brancaster Staithe, this cosy cottage feels just like home. Expect muted cream interiors with plenty of plump furnishings – look forward to falling back onto the couch after a long walk through the countryside and snoozing soundly in the comfortable beds. There’s a fully-equipped kitchen for putting together your favourite dishes and a light-filled conservatory where morning cups of coffee can be enjoyed. 

After a barbecue in the garden, grab your binoculars and explore the nearby creeks or jump on the coasthopper bus to Brancaster Beach for a mosey along the long stretches of soft sand. Alternatively, head to Burnham Market, less than a ten-minute drive away. Visit the indie shops that flank the village green, then pop into the Hoste Arms pub for a well-deserved gin and tonic.

The Deer Arch

This Grade II Listed cottage has a fantastic location right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. Do some beachcombing on Wells-next-the-Sea Beach (around twenty minutes on foot). Then, afterwards, have a stroll along the Quay, a one-minute walk away, and enjoy some fish and chips or pick up some catch of the day from the pretty harbour. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants, as well as a delicatessen, butchers and fishmonger within a five-minute stroll. Take some local produce back to this lovely home, prepare a meal in the modern kitchen, and then savour it at the table in the sunny courtyard. Or when the weather turns chilly, light the log burning stove (your lovely host provides a starter pack of logs in the colder months) and relax with a glass of wine on the sofa. This stylish cottage is everything you would want from a seaside retreat – we love the original features, such as the old beams, which blend beautifully with the chic furnishings. With so much out and about, too, you’ll probably need to book again to fit it all in.

Surrounded by rolling green meadows and within easy reach of Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham, this place is ideal for families looking to escape to the coast. With all the comforts of home, as well as a cosy wood-burning stove and an outdoor dining area equipped with barbecue, you’ll feel right at ease here. For days out, the stunning Holkham Hall estate is less than a ten-minute drive away, and the popular seaside towns of Sheringham and Cromer are reached in less than forty-five minutes.

Nestled behind a wrought iron gate with a rose-clad archway, there’s a touch of the Hansel and Gretel about this cute-as-a-button period cottage for two, set in the popular West Norfolk village of Stanhoe. 

Inside, there are no fast fads or current trends here. Just elegant and timeless interiors await with a charming inglenook fireplace at its heart (the underfloor heating keeps things toasty, too). Though with the award-winning local pub, The Duck Inn just a waddle away across the pond, we wouldn’t blame you for eating out instead.  

When it’s time to spread your wings, you’re just a few miles inland from the stunning Royal Norfolk coast – designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for good reason. Take your pick from spectacular sandy beaches, gorgeous coastal villages, golf, sailing, great walking, and birdwatching – this county has got it by the bucket and spade load.

What a prime location this stylish cottage has – it's right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. You'll find a mix of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops to browse right on your doorstep. Or head to Holkham Beach (just over a twelve-minute drive away), where you may see the Household Cavalry riding their horses across the sands. It's just a twenty-minute stroll to Wells-next-the-Sea, too, with its pretty beach huts. After exploring all this town and the Norfolk coast offers, relax by the wood-burning stove (a starter pack of logs is provided in the colder months) or enjoy a coffee in the cute courtyard on warm days. Your lovely host has done a fantastic job sympathetically updating this place whilst retaining its original charm. When you're ready for a bit of rest, climb the traditional Norfolk winder stairs to the characterful and comfy bedrooms, before starting another exciting day of Norfolk adventures. This home is perfect for families, couples and friends who want to enjoy the great outdoors all year round.

Redshank

The rural landscapes of Norfolk are truly a sight to behold. With the rugged coast and the lush Norfolk Broads, the diverse range of scenery brings visitors from far and wide across the region, with this home allowing easy access to it all. Around a twenty-minute drive from fabulous hikes along breezy coastal paths, this village abode will certainly give you a warm welcome home.

Pastoral in every sense of the word, this converted church is set just outside the town of Docking. Countryside landscapes surround the settlement, but you can also stroll out to find pubs and traditional chip shops in the heart of the village. Your home would have formerly been a hub of prayers and song, but now stands as a luxurious holiday pad.

While the exterior is true to its original purpose, you’ll be stunned by the elegant decor inside. A colourful Persian rug lines the wooden floors in the lofty lounge, where chunky timber beams support a high, apex ceiling. But the most striking feature has to be the windows. Tall, panelled, and with coloured stained glass at the peak, the light just hits differently in this home. And when you wake up in the morning, there’s nothing quite like the blue pattern of the stained glass coming through at sunrise.

Tucked away at the end of a little lane, this charming converted barn offers an idyllic family getaway within easy reach of Norfolk’s stunning coastline. Dating back to 1796, this barn has been lovingly renovated to combine the home’s original features with modern touches. In terms of location, you’re in the quaint town of Stanhoe and just a few miles from the village or Burnham market, home to bakeries, cafés, a village shop and excellent pubs.

Here, you can look forward to spending your evenings curled up with a good book from the bookshelf and enjoying home-cooked meals in front of the log-burning fire on colder evenings. If the sun is shining, make the most of the charming garden – kids and furry friends will love the runaround whilst adults can sit back with a local cheeseboard. There are two sitting rooms here, which is ideal when everyone has their own routine. Set the little ones up in front of a film in the snug, and sink into the sitting room sofas for a glass of Picpoul de Pinet. 

And after a day of cliff-top walks along the North Coat Path and memorable birdwatches at RSPB Titchwell and Cley, this is precisely the kind of warm and welcoming home you long for.

Boasting a privileged position at the heart of Wells-next-the-Sea, this picturesque home overlooking the town’s quay is a treat for all seasons. With the North Norfolk coast on your doorstep and a plethora of fun treats waiting to be enjoyed at home, there’s no end to the adventures in store. 

No stone has been left unturned in the careful curation of this home, with its welcoming open-plan living area beckoning board games by the fireside and the sun room offering a slice of relaxation whatever the weather. Open the doors here to step out into the large private garden – the perfect spot for family picnics and lawn games – or head out to the front of the home where you’ll find a raised seating area with picture-perfect views of the boats coming in and out of quay. 

Our favourite spot, however, has to be the main bedroom’s terrace. Accessed via a hatched window, you’ve got uninterrupted views of the water that you can enjoy over morning coffees as the sun dazzles over the stunning scenery, or with a nightcap as the stars twinkle above you. 

When you’re ready to venture out for some sightseeing, you’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes just minutes away, including along the quayside (a two-minute walk) which has a plethora of ice cream shops and arcades. You’re also a twenty-five-minute walk from the beach, while Holkham Hall and Holkham National Nature Reserve are both just a couple of miles away.

Or keep things local with a stroll to Docking’s village pub or local chippy to grab a fish supper to savour at home.

The large house is a brilliant base to explore this stretch of coast - birdwatchers will want to decamp to RSPB Titchwell Marsh or Holme Dunes, walkers have got miles of coastal path to stomp, while sunnier days are best spent playing on the sand on Brancaster Beach. If the weather isn’t playing ball, the sea is still all around - dinners in the dining room are set to a backdrop of the coast, while the garden has a BBQ when alfresco eating is possible. It’s only a short walk into the village of Thornham, which has several renowned restaurants, as well as a deli to stock up on local goodies.

A home that’s as charming inside as out, this lovely cottage in the popular village of Thornham is the perfect base for those looking to make the most out of the North Norfolk coast. 

Combining period charm with modern comforts, you’ll have no trouble making yourself at home in the inviting beamed living area, where plump sofas and a wood-burning fire beckon snuggly evenings when the weather is cool. 

To the front of your home, you’ll find a lawned garden – ideal for sunny days when lawn games are in order – while to the back of the cottage, a table, chairs and a barbecue complete the picturesque patio. 

With two comfortable bedrooms as well as a sleek bathroom with a deliciously enticing tub, you’ve got everything you need for a carefree stay by the coast.

When it comes to sightseeing, the Thornham Marsh nature reserve is a paradise for walkers and birdwatchers, while Thornham Old Harbour is an eighteen-minute walk away. You’re also a seven-minute drive from Brancaster Beach and the coastal town of Hunstanton is just four miles away. We recommend catching the Coast Hopper bus that takes you to Wells-next-the-Sea where you can try your hand at crabbing on the quay, or spot seals at nearby Morston. 

Time for Rest

With a cosy wood burner, a sunny courtyard and a comfortable living space, this cottage is an excellent base for exploring Norfolk any time of year. On chillier afternoons, snuggle up by the fire with a book or a board game, sipping wine and making yourself right at home. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking, but during the summer, fire up the charcoal barbecue and enjoy an alfresco dinner in the courtyard instead. Or if you don't feel like cooking, pick up something from the local chippy or head to the pub – both just a short walk away.

Sleepy and charming, Docking is a family-friendly village with ample to discover nearby. For your seaside fix, it's just a twenty-minute drive to some of North Norfolk's finest sandy beaches, including Old Hunstanton and Holkham. If you fancy trying your hand at crabbing, then our advice is to head to the harbour at Wells-next-the-Sea. And close by is also the Holkham Hall & Estate – a grand, stately home as well as a deer park and a lake with boats to hire.

Those 19th-century farmers knew what they were doing when they built these two divine cottages tucked away in the sleepy Norfolk village of Wighton. Now joined together and exquisitely reimagined into a luxurious seaside haven just an eleven-minute drive from the beach, this place has got charm by the trough load.

Inside, while the old 1800s bones remain (those exposed oak beams are everything), there's nothing twee about its interiors. Every inch of the home feels like an interior magazine come to life with heirloom-worthy antiques, vibrant textiles, and curated artwork bringing layers of interest and style.

Sunny mornings call for lazy coffees on the garden terrace as kids and furry friends run about on the lawns. But if the weather doesn't buck up, that breakfast room with French doors overlooking the garden is just as inviting, with the Aga keeping things toasty.

Upstairs, each bedroom set out over two floors is as dreamy as the next. And kids will love the novelty of the two staircases at either end of the house. Game of hide and seek, anyone? 

When it's time to spread your wings, take your pick from north Norfolk's best beaches. Pack a picnic and head for Wells-next-the-Sea (3 miles) and Holkham (5 miles). The vast sandy shores are the perfect playground for young and old alike when the tide is out. And when tummies start to rumble, the village pub (three minutes on foot) is just the ticket for hearty grub and a warm welcome.

A vision of country cottage idyll in traditional Norfolk flint, this is an enchanting little spot for any trip to the countryside. Originally built in the 1800s, it sits in the village of North Creake with a cosy country pub just down the road and the ruins of old Creake Abbey a short walk away. For a grander day out, Holkham Hall is less than fifteen minutes’ drive away and it’s a twenty-minute drive to the sweeping sands of Holkham Beach. Perhaps pop to Wells-next-the-Sea (a ten-minute drive) to stock up on supplies and sample the local fish and chips.

The space is cosy, though it's worth noting that one of the bedrooms is without a door, so it might not feel the most private. Still, it is minutes away from the harbour and a fifteen-minute walk from Well's Beach. You're also in one of the UK's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which you can explore more by car.
