We think the best way to discover this exceptionally beautiful landscape, is to stay in an exceptionally beautiful home. On a street of candy-colored cottages, an eight-minute walk from Southwold Pier, your home is painted in a dreamy pale blue, with terracotta roof tiles, and a cute white door beckoning you inside. Built in 1850, you’ll love the original features like exposed wooden beams, a winding staircase, and wood-burning fireplace in the lounge. We think this is the perfect spot to settle down on the sofa, crack open a bottle of fizz, and say cheers to the start of your holiday. Another option would be sipping champagne in the luxurious freestanding tub, or taking celebrations out to your private patio on a sunny afternoon. When you get peckish, take a wander to your nearest chippie, three minutes away. Protect your portion of fish and chips from the seagulls as you stroll one minute down to the promenade and take in the fresh air from the North Sea.

Pale Blue Gull

Immerse yourself in the calming atmosphere as you take romantic strolls along the beach or explore the charming village with its quaint shops and tea rooms. Indulge your senses with breathtaking sunsets while sipping local Norfolk wine from your private patio. Cley Serenity

Perched on the edge of Blickling Hall Estate and fringing the chocolate-box village of Oulton, the setting for this adult-only hideaway is dreamy. All the cottagecore essentials are ticked off with original beams, a wood-burning stove, and a pretty, south-facing garden to call your own. Although it’s worth noting the home’s low beams and restricted head height might not suit the vertically blessed. With no amenities within walking distance, you’ll need a car here. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

Driftwood Garden

It’s not often we find a home with something for everyone but trust us when we say that this place is sure to delight even the most discerning guest. Overlooking sandy Mundesley Beach, this gorgeous Victorian property has ‘luxury’ written all over it, boasting a mind-boggling selection of amenities that’ll make you feel as though you’ve rented out an entire five-star hotel. 

There’s so much to keep you busy here that we wouldn’t blame you if you weren’t sure where to start. From the sitting room full of board games and DVDs to the private mini spa complete with sauna and six-seater hot tub, this place has everything you need for an unforgettable family reunion or weekend getaway with all your favourite people. Top up your tan in the sun-soaked garden, challenge little ones to a multiplayer game on the Playstation, or simply sit back and take in the view from your cosy king-size bed. Whatever your mood, this place has got you covered. 

If you fancy a change of scenery, you’re within easy reach of Cromer, one of Norfolk’s most famous seaside towns. Tuck into a hearty portion of fish and chips on the pier or grab a seat at a local pub and treat yourself to a well-deserved pint before heading home for a cosy movie night. Popcorn, anyone?

Swallow's Retreat

You'll find this imposing home set within a 300-acre historic parkland at the centre of a North Norfolk private estate. The former home of the head gardener, this Georgian building boasts its own walled garden and numerous character features – not least its beautiful arched windows. A simple, elegant cottage that's been modernised without losing its charm, it's now perfect for a special break in the countryside.

Along with a games room with all sorts of fun activities for all the family, there's a large lawn and an outdoor dining terrace, plus a little modern luxury in the form of a hot tub. Elsewhere, a comfortable living room, cosy library and sociable eat-in kitchen provide plenty of living space for a family or a small group of friends, and pretty bedrooms and bathrooms offer a tranquil retreat. Spend your time walking in the wider parkland, head to the nearby Broads or drive to the coast in less than half an hour.  

Estate Cottage

With its thatched roof and shuttered windows, you couldn't ask for a cuter cottage than this Grade-II listed address sitting in the middle of a country estate in rural Norfolk.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Alternatively, it doesn't take too long to reach the Norfolk coastline – Sea Palling Beach is twenty minutes' drive away, for instance. The city of Norwich is only half an hour away in the car, too.

Quintessentially British

Perched a five-minute stroll away from Caister-on-Sea Beach, this spot offers an idyllic setting for a family to come together for a refreshing break by the sea. Inside the home, a vast open plan living area, furnished with timeless furniture and decoration offers a sophisticated space to relax all year round. Whether you visit during the sunny summer's months or in the chill of winter, this home remains a warm, welcoming and tranquil place to retreat to when seeking an escape from the mundane. From the living space, large glass sliding doors invite in plenty of natural daylight from the outside patio – perfect for relaxing amidst the sea air. Fire up the barbecue or chill with a book in hand on the corner sofa, before heading down to the beach to catch the sunset. And if you head upstairs (and stand on tiptoes), you can catch a glimpse of the sea from the attic window – the beach is just 300 metres away after all. After a day on the beach, call into the village to nosey around the local shops and boutiques followed by a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants or cafes. With everything within walking distance, there is little need to travel by car when you don't feel like leaving Caister-on-Sea. But if you do fancy a little drive out, Great Yarmouth is only ten minutes down the road and well worth a visit. 

'Tis the Sea-Sun

As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Sea Salt Harmony

Each bedroom is as magnificent as the next, with high-spec en-suite bathrooms and glorious views from Juliet balconies or french doors opening out onto the landscaped gardens. 

Designed for inside-outside living in all seasons, kickstart your day by relaxing in the wood-fired hot tub, detoxing in the sauna, or jumping into the Scandinavian cold plunge pool. When thoughts turn to food, there's a gold-standard Swedish outdoor kitchen to grill and chill and a covered heated terrace with a sound system to keep the night flowing. Fancy getting your glad rags on and dialling up a private chef? Then the atmospheric dining area inside has glamorous soiree written all over it, and the dressing-up cupboard will bring all the party vibes.

When it's time to blow the cobwebs away, throw on some wellies for bracing walks along the vast sandy shores (just a twenty-five-minute walk or a five-minute drive away). Then dive into one of the charming local pubs in the nearby village of Cley-next-the-Sea for a swift pint and warm welcome.

The Coast Club

Set within over 100 acres of grounds, this handsome Georgian house is surrounded by manicured gardens, woodland walks and activities like clay pigeon shooting and archery. The home’s private garden features a heated swimming pool for sunny days and you can still sit and listen to the birdsong in the huge conservatory if the weather turns. Or, head inside to the games room for a round of pool or foosball by the wood-burning stove. The kitchen, with its gas range cooker and oodles of prep space, is more than big enough for the bustle of family breakfast time, and the old servant’s bells are still on display. Tucked into a corner of the kitchen you'll find a little TV snug, warmed by the purr of an Aga. Gather the group in the dining room with its view across the fields outside, or head up to the privacy of beautiful bedrooms, each decorated with its own motif – paisley and peacocks perhaps, or a princess-style four-poster and freestanding tub. If you don’t feel like cooking, the estate staff can arrange for a private chef, or you can make the short walk to the Brisley Bell which serves excellent food.  

Peacocks & Petticoats

This 150-year-old cottage is the perfect place to unwind and explore the corners of the Norfolk countryside that have barely changed in that century-and-a-half. At first glance, you're sure to notice the period features including wooden beams and narrow doorways, but this home has been lovingly brought up to date with plush furnishings and warm spotlights. The kitchen, too, feels decidedly contemporary with its Sonos speaker and Nespresso machine. Climb the ornate spiral staircase to the bedrooms, all of which enjoy green garden views, and clock the freestanding rolltop tub in the bathroom. After a day hiking across the fens, curl up in the cosy living room in front of the wood-burning stove, or retreat to the oak gazebo in the garden for drinks under the festoon lights — there's even heating here for when the weather turns chillier. Nestled in north Norfolk, you're a short drive from the historic market town of Fakenham, but it's also possible to drive to the coast for a day on the beach — Cromer is just forty-five minutes away.
