Let's start with that made-for-action shaker kitchen with a farmhouse dining table at its heart for lazy breakfasts, afternoon teas, and everything else in between. From here, you can spill out into the living area where there's wood stacked by the fire, books stashed on the shelves, and deep, sumptuous sofas to sink right in. Or slide back the bifold doors and take things outside. The sheltered patio is the perfect spot for golden hour tipples as you drink up the views of the patchwork fields beyond. Meanwhile, little ones and four-legged friends can run about safely on the enclosed lawns.

Fancy a change of scenery? There are cycle paths and footpaths aplenty to voyage into the open countryside. Nip along to the charming market town of Reepham (just a four-mile drive away) – its quaint shops and traditional inns are an afternoon well-spent. And there are beautiful beaches aplenty – Brancaster, Sheringham, and Cromer are just a few of the many hidden gems waiting for you to discover.

Nestled in Edgefield village, you’ll find an award-winning pub with spa facilities for when you want to treat yourself, and countryside walks from your doorstep.

Open the doors up and cook a Norfolk feast in the modern kitchen, and relish the fruits of your labour at the dining table with its brightly coloured chairs. Or, if it’s sunny, enjoy your meal at the picnic table in the pretty garden.

Situated near quiet Wood Dalling, there are plenty of cycle paths and footpaths where you might be lucky enough to spot hares, deers, birds of prey and pheasants. The Broads are around a thirty-minute drive, while the nearest beach is less than 14 miles from this lovely barn.

Luckily, all rooms benefit from large windows that, thanks to this home’s position on the edge of the Glaven Valley, offer picturesque views of the countryside and the abundance of wildlife that lives here.

This cosy home is perfect for country getaways for two. It’s a peaceful space that’s been renovated from an old schoolhouse – in the courtyard you can still spot some of the little ones’ markings. Perhaps the happy history of the home imbues it with a laid-back vibe, because this is a place for relaxing – and spending quality time together, of course. 

When you wake up in the morning after a comfortable night’s sleep, you’re greeted by a leafy view through the window. Take your morning coffee out to the south-facing courtyard and start your day by breathing in the fresh, country air. You might like to stroll seven minutes into the centre of Reepham to explore the charming market town. The market is held every Wednesday, and there are plenty of independent shops, cafes and pubs to visit. 

If you want to get out into the countryside that surrounds the home, you have plenty of options. You could drive ten minutes to the Marriott’s Way route – this 26-mile path between Norwich and Aylsham is wonderful on foot or by bike. The Broads National Park is thirty-four minutes away by car, and you can be paddling on Cromer beach in thirty-six minutes. 

After a day out exploring, you can breathe a sigh of relief when you return to the peace of the old schoolhouse. Sip a glass of wine in the courtyard or curl up under the beams by the electric wood burner.

A renovated barn in rural north Norfolk, this functional home places you within easy reach of both market towns and the seaside. The long living area fits everyone in for dinner and games, and the large kitchen means you don't need to eat out every night – instead, enjoy the seclusion offered by the home's location and try some rustic cooking. The interior isn't very modern, and the bedrooms look a little dated here. That said, we love the skylights – what a perfect way to wake up in the mornings.

Perched on the edge of Blickling Hall Estate and fringing the chocolate-box village of Oulton, the setting for this adult-only hideaway is dreamy. All the cottagecore essentials are ticked off with original beams, a wood-burning stove, and a pretty, south-facing garden to call your own. Although it’s worth noting the home’s low beams and restricted head height might not suit the vertically blessed. With no amenities within walking distance, you’ll need a car here. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

This quirky converted church makes for an ideal creative countryside retreat. The open-plan downstairs, where the pews used to be, has been given over to create a vast double-height space with one double bedroom leading off it and a single and master bedroom found upstairs. The building was originally constructed as a Methodist chapel, and it retains some of that spiritual atmosphere, with a piano, drum kit and guitar – plus a fully equipped kitchen – at hand for whenever musical or culinary inspiration strikes.  Located in the village of Briston and just fifteen minutes from the coast, it's a great base to explore the natural beauty of the area and charming towns like Holt and Cromer. The butcher, baker and greengrocer (no candlestick maker, unfortunately), plus a Co-op, are only around a hundred metres away. At the same time, the local pub serves good food and is only a short walk away. If you'd like to see how the other half live, there are many stately homes and gardens to visit nearby, including Sandringham, the Blickling Estate and Holkham Hall, all within a thirty-five-minute drive.

Situated beside a thicket of pine trees, this charming cottage has everything you need from a holiday home in the Norfolk countryside: two sitting rooms, comfy antique furnishings, a fully-equipped kitchen and a private garden. Shopping fans will rejoice knowing the bustling city of Norwich is reached in thirty-five minutes by car while those who prefer to be closer to nature can enjoy a spot of birdwatching in nearby Buxton Heath.

Closer to home you can visit Salthouse Beach and return to the comfort of this home after. If you’re windswept, why not warm up with a soak in the tub, followed by a cup of coffee in front of the wood-burning stove in the cosy living space.

In the living room, cosy is an understatement – plush sofas beckon you to curl up with a good book beneath the wooden beams, while the wood burner and collection of board games are the very things for chillier nights at home. Come dinnertime, make your way to the kitchen and cook up a storm on the Aga stove, preparing a range of mouth-watering fare to share in the dining room. Better yet, dine alfresco in the sun-kissed garden as the day slowly fades and feel the salt-tinged air on your skin.

 Brinton is a small hamlet tucked away from the more lively spots on the Norfolk Coast. But that doesn't mean it's boring – you'll find excellent walking footpaths and cycling routes along the lanes, as well as an award-winning pub in Hunworth a short drive away. Holt is close by, too – ideal if you're after cafes, art galleries, boutique shops and fantastic restaurants. If it's the sea you crave, head to Wells-next-the-Sea or Holkham – both about a half-hour away by car.

Tucked away in a select group of Grade II listed buildings, this home may be historic but it's modern and stylish inside. The living room is the heart of the home, with comfortable furnishings, and there's a smart kitchen with a walk-in pantry and a pretty dining nook with bench seating for six. With everything thought of, there are books and games for rainy afternoons and outside a lovely lawned garden and barbecue patio for when the sun shines. On the edge of the Georgian town of Holt, it's an easy walk to the shops, pubs and restaurants, and just a short drive to the Norfolk coast and the towns of Sheringham and Cromer.

This lovely home takes a classic English barn and renovates it into a chic, open space with all the country charm and none of the snug spaces. Glass walkways and enormous French windows in the living area add a contemporary edge to the original wooden beams and red-tiled roof. Not far from the Norfolk coast, you can explore the marshes in Cley-next-the-Sea, spot seals in Blakeney or sprawl out on the sandy beaches in Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham, about twenty minutes away by car.

After a busy day, there’s nothing better than relaxing in front of the wood burner with some fish and chips from across the road. And of course, pour yourself a pint. You're in a former pub after all.

Surrounded by bustling bars, cafés and shops, you'll have plenty to do in the area.
