You can even plan bucket and spade days at Sea Palling Beach, which is only a fifteen-minute drive away. After an action-packed adventure, why not pop into your local pub for a pint?

Come into the cottage and put your feet up by an old-fashioned fireplace. You can whip up a bacon breakfast while listening to the radio, then thumb through a good book on this tartan armchair. Don't forget to spend time in your secluded garden, where you can commit to a British barbecue in all weathers. If you're travelling with furry friends in tow, look no further than this thatched-roof cottage close to the Norfolk coastline. 

Throws for sofas, dog bowls, bags and biscuits all come as standard. Tiled floors downstairs mean there’s no need to worry about muddy paw prints on carpets, and if you don’t fancy one of the many great walks on the doorstep, you can just let them exercise themselves in the garden. Even the local pub — the Lessingham Star, a couple of minutes’ walk — is dog-friendly.

Of course, you don’t need a hound to enjoy this fantastic house. The owners are former residents and it still very much has the feel of a family home. Downstairs, there are plenty of cosy living rooms and snugs in which to rest up after long rambles. In the country-style kitchen, there's an electric range oven for the full rural fantasy, although there's a barbecue out on the terrace if the weather's on your side. Come nighttime, you might be able to see bats or hear owls, foxes and deer from the nearby woodland.

When you want an afternoon out, there's a hedge-lined grassy track that will take you to Sea Palling beach in twenty minutes' walk and the Norfolk Broads can be reached in no more than five minutes in the car. The city of Norwich is a forty-five-minute drive away, too.

A gorgeous barn conversion close to the wind-whipped Norfolk coast, this home has been set up with dog lovers in mind. There's enough space for up to four of your furry friends to join, with a lavish fleece-lined bed for each, throws for those that just won't stay off the sofa, an enclosed garden and a special dog hamper to welcome them. Two-legged guests will love the open-plan living and dining area, the AGA in the kitchen, comfy sofas and plenty of games. You'll definitely want to keep the dogs out of the bedrooms, though, as the Egyptian cotton bedding is far too sumptuous to share. Nearby there are lots of dog-friendly woodland and beach walks, and local pub The Star Inn will be happy to welcome you and your tail-wagging companions. After a day out exploring the best of the north Norfolk coast, treat yourself to a soak in the hot tub looking out over the surrounding fields. This elegant coastal home set a mere 0.1 miles from the beach in the postcard-pretty village of Happisburgh, had us charmed with its country garden and summer house alone. And that was before we'd even seen the slipper bath and four-poster bed of its swoon-worthy interiors.

Inside, every corner of this Norfolk home feels like an interior magazine brought to life. Antique pieces and objets d'art nod to the home's 18th-century beginnings, while pops of colour add a dash of modernity.

Set out over one level, there's room for you to all spill out in style here. When the sun shines, pad out into the enclosed wraparound garden for alfresco breakfasts. Then savour that second coffee beneath the dapple of the apple tree while kids and furry friends run off some energy on the lawns.

When you're ready to meet the locals of this otherworldly village, Happisburgh's traditional inn dating back to 1550 is just around the corner for upper-crust grub. Or follow the iconic red and white striped lighthouse down to the seafront for afternoons of picnicking and sandcastle building.

Featured on Channel 4's Homes by the Sea, it’s located right next to the dunes at Winterton-on-Sea, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A former working lighthouse, it’s perfect for a peaceful stay with a surreal fairytale quality. When we visited, we were particularly impressed by the unusual round rooms that stack up on top of one another. Once filled with nautical equipment, these are now well designed spaces with beautiful furniture and objects, including an impressive library, bunk-bed room for kids, living room, and finally a lofty viewing platform bedroom (not for the faint hearted). Down on ground level you’ll find a contemporary open-plan space where you can cook in the shiny stainless steel kitchen or bask in the warmth of the wood burner as you eat dinner in the relaxed dining area. Folding doors give access out into the small garden for picnics or al fresco breakfasts. Families in particular will love the easy access to seaside life, including great fish and chips, good local pubs, parks and boat-trips. The Norfolk Broads is also nearby; the UK's largest wetland area, it's perfect for boating, cycling and walking. In short, this is a great home for those who want to experience everything a Norfolk staycation has to offer, while staying somewhere with real wow factor.

Spend a day exploring the grounds or spot the local birdlife on a water-trail boat tour on The Broads. Not all the best attractions are saved for the summer months – head to Horsey Beach in the winter to see the grey seals during the birthing season. Regardless of the time of year, this piece of sandy beach is a pleasure all year round – you might still catch views of seals who’ve stuck around for some sun. If you're seeking a culinary experience, there are some charming local pubs in the area. Follow bridleways through the surrounding countryside or charter a day boat and pootle along the River Ant. In the nearby village of Neatishead, a leisurely thirty-five-minute walk away, you’ll find a traditional pub – it’s the perfect place to refuel after an exciting day navigating the Broads and beyond.

The property is expertly crafted to accommodate pooches so they can also have a wonderfully comfortable stay. There's plenty of space within the house as you wander through, admiring the beamed ceilings and rustic wooden features throughout. Snuggle up together in the living space, including the dog of course, to watch a movie on the TV as you sip on a toasty cup of coffee. You've got a choice of where you'd like to tuck into meals too, whether you opt for an al fresco lunch in the courtyard, a hearty homecooked plate at the indoor dining table, or a light bite while sitting at the breakfast bar.

The outdoor space is a fantastic spot to enjoy a picnic with your loved ones on the grass or on the picnic bench, as your loveable dogs run around and play. In fact, you may even spot a range of wildlife during your stay here as red deer and hares have been seen amongst the rural surroundings.

Not only is the house great for dogs, but the surrounding area too. With relaxing walks along the Weavers Way as you traverse through verdant trees and bushes – a beautiful getaway from the hustle and bustle of busy daily life. A short drive takes you to the market town of Stalham where you can treat yourself to a delicious portion of fish and chips. Sea Palling Beach is a fifteen–minute drive away from the house for a day out by the ocean – your dogs will love running up and down the sand here.

This charming cottage provides scenic views of the Norfolk Broads right from its living room. Sit with a book by the electric fireplace, occasionally pausing to gaze out at over the green hills of East Anglia. The cute, country-style kitchen is compact but has everything you need for self-catering. 

Embark on a hike, straight from your front door, stopping for birdwatching and fishing by Womack Staithe. Back at home you can sunbathe in the courtyard and plan a picnic in the shades of the towering oaks in the communal garden. 

Head east for the Horsey Gap Beach and west for the historic city of Norwich, which is packed with museums, bars and restaurants. For something a little quainter, stroll along the banks of the River Thurne in the village of Ludham.

Once you’re refuelled and raring to go, frolic on Sea Palling’s Blue Flag beach before quenching your thirst with a well-deserved pint at Reefs Bar, a ten-minute stroll from your doorstep. Just beyond the village, you’ll find designated bridleways and a National Cycle Route if you’d prefer to explore on two wheels. Jump in the car and visit The Broads’ picturesque waterways, a twenty-five-minute drive away or pop down the coast to visit the pups at Horsey Seal Colony – and be sure to try the food at the 1940’s inspired tearoom.

Although the Norfolk coastline is only half an hour's drive away, you don't even have to get in the car if you fancy a refreshing dip while staying here. Out in the garden, a heated swimming pool will be the place to play and relax all throughout the summer months.

When the British weather has other ideas, however, there's plenty to like about the home's interior, too. The long living room benefits from big windows at either end so there's plenty of natural light, while the kitchen is both generous with surface space and finished in a fetching shade of mint green.

In the local area, there are distractions to appeal to guests of all persuasions. BeWILDerwood theme park takes seven minutes to reach in the car, while Wroxham Barns is a twelve-minute drive away. There's no shortage of walking routes and watersports opportunities in the surrounding Norfolk Broads as well.

Flight of the Canaries

A stay in The Broads delivers more than just stunning scenery – with watersports, boating, cycling and birdwatching at your fingertips, all you need is a good base to enjoy them from. This rural home in Ludham is a little traditional, and you won’t find any modern features here, though it’s a comfortable and cosy space to return to at the end of a day at Horsey Gap Beach. The garden allows you to make the most of the sunshine, and while the fireplace is only decorative, the living room is a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine.

Perfect for pups, this lovely cottage has everything you and your four-legged friends will need for a seaside getaway. It's incredibly dog-friendly, with heaps of features that dog owners will appreciate – an enclosed, astroturf courtyard (no muddy paws!), easy-clean laminate floors, bowls and crates, and a comfy white sofa that looks stylish but is easy to wipe down. Even without a pooch, you'll be happy to call this annexe home. It's bright, inviting and has plenty of charm. Owners Tracie and Neil are highly knowledgeable about the area and keep a cosy, traditional home – they live next door but can be as hands-on (or off) as you need. We love their attention to detail, and a few unique pieces were handcrafted by Neil, including the TV stand converted from a Singer sewing machine, the pine coffee table and the light fittings. Set in the coastal village of Happisburgh, there's a lot to keep you busy. After an alfresco breakfast, lace up your boots and take a walk along the beach – both Cart Gap and Happisburgh Beach are a twenty-minute stroll away. You can't miss the bold red-and-white-striped lighthouse along the sea – it's the oldest working one in East Anglia – but other places worth exploring include the lush Bacton Woods and the collection of inns and pubs serving traditional English food along the seaside.

You'll find this imposing home set within a 300-acre historic parkland at the centre of a North Norfolk private estate. Spend your time walking in the wider parkland, head to the nearby Broads or drive to the coast in less than half an hour.

We may have just found the most adorable home in Norfolk — and it's pet friendly. Located only a short walk from Happisburgh beach, this stunning barn conversion is a fantastic spot to bring your loved ones and let loose. While the pups are playing in the garden, you can chill out in the shade with a cocktail recipe that took you mane iterations to perfect and play scrabble to showcase your enviable vocabulary. Take the tribe to the beach whenever you feel like and when the weather is nice, have a picnic there too. On lazier days, you might only make it as far as the orchard garden, but that's more than fine as long as you remember to relax. When you feel like embarking on a day trip, Norfolk will provide plenty of fascinating destinations ranging from war memorials to famous tearooms.

Perched close to the sandy shores of Norfolk’s Walcott Beach and surrounded by patchwork fields, this charming barn conversion has all the makings for an easy, breezy seaside retreat.

From its blissfully quiet, secluded spot, you could feel a million miles from anywhere – which is how we like things. But when the sea calls, the soft sands of Walcott Beach are just 0.9 miles away. A smidge further, you’ll find the post-card pretty village of Ridlington (a 2.5-mile drive). Or, there's good old-fashioned beach fun down at Mundesley, with its colourful beach huts, lip-smacking fish and chip shops, and lashings of ice cream.

Back home, this light-filled treasure is a joy to return to, with its exposed beams and stonework bringing all the wow factor. Set out across one level, extended families or friends sharing will love the privacy the bedrooms bring, each with a separate bathroom. And there’s heaps of space to get together for catch-ups and cuppas around that impressive wood burner – the underfloor heating will keep things toasty in winter too. And when the sun shines, fling those French doors open wide and head out into the suntrap garden for drinks on the terrace as kids and furry friends alike burn off some energy on the enclosed lawns.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Alternatively, it doesn't take too long to reach the Norfolk coastline – Sea Palling Beach is twenty minutes' drive away, for instance. The city of Norwich is only half an hour away in the car, too.

Inside, the owners have retained the traditional features of this old stable building and added in a range of contemporary comforts. From the Tudor brick fireplace to the wooden beams and snug bedrooms, this is a wonderful place to get cosy and share quality time together. 

Outside, you’ll find a private garden with a barbecue – perfect for embracing the magic of outdoor living. From here, make your way to the thatched barn house to enjoy a refreshing swim in the communal pool or an energising workout in the mini gym. This home is ideal for families, as there’s so much to do. It can be found in pretty Bacton, within easy reach of the Norfolk Broads and Norwich – and just a short walk from Bacton Beach. In addition to having a cosy, traditional home to return to after days spent in the fresh air, you’ll also have access to a communal indoor swimming pool and a games room. The shared garden is a lovely spot when the weather is fine, too. The decor on the rustic side and the main bedroom isn’t entirely private, so it won’t suit everyone – but we think it’s a great option for a family and their four-legged friend.

Perched a five-minute stroll away from Caister-on-Sea Beach, this spot offers an idyllic setting for a family to come together for a refreshing break by the sea. Inside the home, a vast open plan living area, furnished with timeless furniture and decoration offers a sophisticated space to relax all year round. Whether you visit during the sunny summer's months or in the chill of winter, this home remains a warm, welcoming and tranquil place to retreat to when seeking an escape from the mundane. From the living space, large glass sliding doors invite in plenty of natural daylight from the outside patio – perfect for relaxing amidst the sea air. Fire up the barbecue or chill with a book in hand on the corner sofa, before heading down to the beach to catch the sunset. And if you head upstairs (and stand on tiptoes), you can catch a glimpse of the sea from the attic window – the beach is just 300 metres away after all. After a day on the beach, call into the village to nosey around the local shops and boutiques followed by a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants or cafes. With everything within walking distance, there is little need to travel by car when you don't feel like leaving Caister-on-Sea. But if you do fancy a little drive out, Great Yarmouth is only ten minutes down the road and well worth a visit. 

'Tis the Sea-Sun

Tucked away in the quiet village of Bacton, this charming flint home absolutely exudes cosy comfort. With a sumptuous sectional sofa and a crackling wood burner in the living area, a large dining table in the country-style kitchen and three inviting bedrooms, there's plenty of space here to spread out and make yourself comfortable. Home chefs can cook up a storm in the kitchen – it's well-stocked with everything you need – while kids play a board game or snuggle up with a book. That said, our favourite spot has to be the sunny garden. Fire up the barbecue for dinner, share your meal around the outdoor table and then when the sun goes down, snuggle up by the fire pit underneath the stars.

Right down the street is the ruins of the Priory of Bromholm, a historic abbey that was said to house a piece of the True Cross. And just a little further, only five minutes away, is a sandy beach, where you can sprawl out on the Norfolk coast and dip your toes into the water. When you're not in the mood to cook, there are a few pubs and eateries in town, plus lively Cromer is only ten miles away – perfect for a day trip.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and take a trip to Norfolk’s gorgeous north coast, where you’ll find this stunning brick and flint cottage, perfectly situated for a relaxing East Anglian getaway. 

Whether you’re travelling with family or friends, you’ll love the abundance of space here, particularly the sprawling garden, which boasts a sheltered seating area, plus plenty of room for pets and children to roam while you soak up some sun. Indoors, beamed wooden ceilings and snug sofas make this the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring Norfolk’s charming beaches and villages. Throw some popcorn in the microwave and settle in for a movie night in the cinema room or gather everyone round the dining table for a feast of fish and chips from a local takeaway. 

When it’s time to head out, you’ll find seven beaches within easy reach of your front door, so grab your sun cream and get going. Spend all day exploring the beaches of England’s east coast or drive to Wroxham and take a trip down the Broads. And remember – no day in Norfolk is complete without a traditional pub lunch, so don't hold back if you're feeling peckish. 

Ladybird Lodge

There's a lot to love about this converted barn in the heart of the Norfolk countryside. And its peaceful setting, surrounded by woodlands, water meadows and gardens are just the beginning. How about a tennis court? And, of course, what would a home in the Broads be without water access? This place has it all. On the River Bure, adventurous types can bring a canoe or paddle board, and even paddle along to the nearby riverside pub. You'll have your own fishing spot if that's how you prefer to spend your afternoons, or just bring your binoculars and look out for otters, kingfishers and more. Indoors, it's a bright and modern space, with a sociable living area and stylish kitchen – complete with a huge island. Patio doors open to a private terrace, and we love the vaulted ceilings and stripped-back original beams. There's a bedroom on the ground floor, with direct access outside, and the family bathroom is on that level too, while the master and third bedroom are upstairs (the third having a unique, low level window overlooking the dining room). With fifteen acres of land to explore, there are great walks to be had from your doorstep, and here you'll be about twenty minutes by car from Norwich in one direction, and the stunning Norfolk coast in the other.

Gently Down The Stream

Quaint and charming, this classical holiday cottage sits tucked away in a quiet and leafy spot, just a short walk from the sandy beaches of Bacton. There are plenty of coastal walks and cycle rides nearby here, so it's ideal if you want to make the most of this seaside location. It's based on a small site that sports some fantastic shared facilities you'll have access to during your stay, including a heated indoor pool, games room, sauna, gym, and even an outdoor giant chess board so you can enjoy a game in the sunshine.

Wildflower Breeze

Grab your bucket and spades and hit the Norfolk coast at this modern, family home just a ten-minute stroll from the beach. Located in the charming seaside village of Caister-on-Sea, just north of Great Yarmouth, it's the village's endless sandy beach that's the biggest draw, and rightly so. An ideal starting point for inspiring coastal walks to Hemsby, Winterton, or Great Yarmouth; there's plenty of Norfolk's expansive coastlines to discover from here. Or for a spot of culture, head to Caister's 15th-century old castle (five-minute drive away) - now home to a royal range of vintage cars. When tummies start to rumble, there are pubs for hearty grub within walking distance and, of course, an obligatory fish and chip shop. Or head home for a barbecue in your private enclosed garden, where kids and dogs can roam free with sandy toes. Inside, this home is perfectly set up for an easy family holiday. Upstairs there are smart, clutter-free spaces, including a nursery room with a cot ready to go. Downstairs, the large breakfast bar in the kitchen is a fantastic spot to all come together to rustle up breakfast and hatch plans for a day exploring. Although with that glorious beach just a stroll away, we wouldn't blame you if you stayed precisely where you are.

Castles Made of Sand

This cosy barn sits on the edge of the Norfolk Broads, where it offers the ideal setting for a relaxing group getaway. Inside, you’ll find plenty of socialising space across the kitchen and living room. There is also a mezzanine snug with a handy desk for remote workers, plus two of the bedrooms can be arranged as doubles or singles to accommodate flexible sleeping arrangements. Outside, there is a peaceful garden with a barbecue and plenty to explore. From here, it’s just a short drive to the village of Acle while the North Norfolk Coast is just 30 miles away. 


Beloved Barn

With its thatched roof and rural village location, this former barn, dating back to 1790, is now a sweet homely hideout for two. The open-plan living space is made for hunkering down – curl up on the plump leather sofa with a cup of tea, then sit down to a hearty meal at the oak dining table. In warm weather, step out onto the patio and soak up the glorious sunshine. 

If you’re keen to explore, grab your binoculars and head over to Upton Fen to catch sight of buzzards and march harriers. When nothing but a crisp pint in a pub garden will do, the White Horse is a fifteen-minute walk away. Spend balmy afternoons strolling along the unspoilt beaches of Caister-on-Sea, reached in twenty minutes by car, or head into the city of Norwich to sample the fantastic selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. 

The Fledgling

This cozy Norfolk holiday cottage is the perfect escape for a family of four and their four-legged friends. The location offers miles of walks on the famously dog-friendly Winterton Dunes and beach, with easy and beautiful circular walks available as well. The house features a wood-burning stove in the lounge, which also includes a flat-screen TV, Blu Ray DVD player, CD player/radio/Bluetooth, and Alexa Echo Dot. The kitchen is generously sized with all appliances included and a table and chairs to seat four. There are two bedrooms upstairs: the front bedroom has two single beds, while the back bedroom boasts a solid oak king-size bed with an excellent view of the dunes. Outside, there is off-road parking for one car, with space for another nearby. The yard is fully enclosed with 6ft gate and fencing all around, making it very secure. The village has a dog-friendly pub, cafes, small stores, and a fish & chip shop. Short breaks are available year-round with discounts for single occupancy.
