If you're looking for a luxurious, romantic retreat in Norfolk – this newly refurbished cottage could be the place for you. Unwind with a glass of Champagne in the hot tub at the end of the beautiful garden, filled with roses and other cottage garden plants. Later, settle down in the reading corner, next to the log burner, with a good book and a glass of wine from the wine chiller. We adore the vistas over the green and village pond from this cottage – it's the picture-perfect view. As night falls, have a long soak in the free-standing bath with the organic toiletries provided – utter bliss. Your lovely hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, from bathrobes and slippers to treats for your four-legged friends (if you're bringing the pooch). The next day enjoy breakfast in the light, contemporary glass dining room overlooking the garden. Then, pop over the road for lunch if you don't fancy cooking – one of the top five gastropubs in the area is right opposite. Afterwards, perhaps walk off all that lovely food with a stroll around the village with its pretty duck ponds. For a day at the beach – Old Hunstanton Beach is a thirty-minute drive away – so you can have the best of both coast and country. It doesn't get much more idyllic than this.

With a prime village position and a tranquil setting, the home offers endless views of the delightful St James the Great Church, dating back to the fourteenth century. Start sunny mornings with breakfast in the enclosed courtyard garden, complete with seating and a barbecue, followed by a wander through the picturesque village. An interesting fact about this former stable block is that in the same year it was completed — 1881 — the architect behind the design, Alfred Waterhouse, also finished work on the National History Museum. Admittedly, this building in the Norfolk village of Crimplesham is slightly less spectacular than the London museum, but there are still double-height ceilings and a large staircase upon entrance for a touch of grandeur. There have been a lot of changes in the interior since the late nineteenth century, but the wholesale modernisation feels in keeping with the country location, especially in the large wood-panelled kitchen, the comfy living room complete with a roaring fireplace and the games room that's accessible through a secret bookcase. There's an enclosed garden with alfresco seating and a barbecue, but there's plenty more to see and do outside in the local area. The historical town of Ely takes just under half an hour to reach in the car, while the coast at Hunstanton can be reached in forty minutes' drive. Closer to home, the quaint town of Downham Market is an hour away on foot.

First built in the 1800s, who could've imagined this former farm foundry house would turn it the ideal family pad it is today? Converted to comfortably accommodate large groups, original features like the vaulted ceilings and brickwork remain to add character and charm. Spilling out onto a sweeping lawn, from where you can see the lush farmland and rolling countryside from the outdoor seating area, this house is about tranquillity but also connects you to the Norfolk Coast, about a forty-five-minute drive away. Set within 100 acres of parkland, these former stables put open countryside walks and wildlife on your doorstep. Wander across the fields to the deserted medieval village of Godwick, where a ruined church tower juts out from the ground. It’s also a half-hour drive to Wells-Next-the-Sea, a pretty seaside town in the Norfolk Coast AONB. The 19th-century stable block has been transformed into a cosy country bolthole for a family or group of friends. You can spot the village’s old church tower from your private garden, where a patio provides a place to sit in the sun and fire up the gas barbecue, and a vast lawn stretches before you. Or, head inside to the sunny kitchen diner where dining is set for the whole group. Scandi-chic interiors make for a relaxing living room, set around a traditional wood-burning stove should the weather turn chilly. Bedrooms blend in with the estate’s wonderful ladscape, with autumnal tree motifs on feature walls lulling you off to sleep. The only sounds around here are the swish of towering trees and birdsong in the morning.

Located close to the village’s 14th-century church and cosy country pub, this home is the perfect place for celebrations with family and friends. The stunning dining room is ideal for sumptuous dinner parties fit for royalty, who can be found on the Sandringham estate nearby. The library is our favourite spot for taking a moment to unwind and relax, flicking through the ample books provided.

Meanwhile, an upstairs galleried landing with a vaulted ceiling and cosy open fire provides more of an unassuming, homely charm, while downstairs the garden room basks in natural daylight. Outdoors, the garden provides plenty of space for children and the family dog to roam freely. There's also plenty to do locally too. Spend a day on the beach at one of Norfolk’s stunning sandy beaches (several are dog-friendly), walk the Peddars Way and pop over to neighbouring Great Massingham, a picturesque village with two charming duck ponds and the Dabbling Duck Inn.

The host is an interior designer with a true collector’s eye and has filled the cottage with an eclectic mix of vintage pieces and curios. Summer’s evenings are spent in the fragrant country garden drinking Pimms and looking out over meadowland, and in the winter months, the wood burner keeps the cosiness levels running high. You’re just a short drive from North Norfolk’s stunning sandy beaches, and the bustling town of Burnham Market. If you don’t feel like a drive, the surrounding countryside is ripe for walking, and the local pub is just five minutes away.

We love the character here, especially the vaulted ceilings and exposed beams in the living space. This country retreat is perfect for entertaining your family and friends. On warm days, relax in the sheltered courtyard or the undercover seating area with its twinkly lights – ideal for a glass of Champagne as the light fades. A wildlife lovers paradise, you'll see your host's Guineafowl roaming around, while you may be lucky enough to spot barn owls or otters in the surrounding area. Pensthorpe Natural Park, as featured in BBC's Springwatch, is a fifteen-minute drive away, while Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve, home to the Hawk and Owl Trust is under a ten-minute drive. It's the same distance to the market town of Fakenham, with its weekly market, cinema, bowling centre and shops.  On the other hand, if you fancy a day at the beach, this home is only thirty minutes in the car from the North Norfolk coast, much of which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

On the edge of the Sandringham Estate, this cottage is the perfect home for the discerning country settler looking to explore the delights of Norfolk. It's set in Dersingham, a traditional village, with great pubs, tea rooms and its own National Nature Reserve. Plus, you're an eighteen-minute walk from the royal residence and its immaculate gardens. Take leafy strolls through the beautiful countryside and woodland footpaths with your four-legged friends (they're allowed) or spend sunny afternoons relaxing on Snettisham Beach, just a ten-minute drive away. Return home to a cosy living room under the warmth of a rustic wood-burning stove – there's ample seating, including a comfy armchair that has evening reading written all over it. The low ceilings, pleasing patterns and calming colour palette make for a delightful space to unwind. Although on warmer days, spend time relaxing on the pretty patio and in your private garden with a glass of wine.

Nestled on the edge of Holkham Estate, this lodge is somewhere you can truly immerse yourself in nature yet still have the coast within easy reach. Perfect for couples and those keen to bring their four-legged friends along for the stay, there are countryside walks from your doorstep, with a stroll through Holkham Park a must. The enclosed garden is just the place for wildlife spotting as you relax in the evening, while locally, if you fancy a beach day, Holkham Bay is just a short drive away. 

The Sea Is You

As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Escape the ordinary at this riverside hideaway for two, nestled in over an acre of secluded woodlands and yet just a twenty-minute stroll from the historic centre of Cambridge. 

With a wood-burning stove to nestle up beside and riverside views from the luxurious four-poster bed, the charms of this cottage cabin are hard to resist. 

On sunny mornings, open the French doors wide and savour morning coffees from the deck’s swing chairs as swans and rowers glide on by. Then up the ante and take to the river with one of the home's boats or kayaks – you've direct access to the river from the garden. 

When thoughts turn to food, closeby you'll find a coffee shop for lazy brunches (ten minutes on foot) and a riverside gastropub (three minutes on foot). Or head into Cambridge's centre along the river towpath (twenty-minute stroll or ten on bike) to dive into one of its ancient pubs before a mooch about the shops. 

Just be sure to make it home for nightfall to get toasty beside the chiminea (which handily doubles as your barbecue). As the stars twinkle overhead, there's no finer place to be.

With farmland to the front and the owner’s beautiful private nature reserve behind – this gorgeous home, part of a cluster of mill buildings, is in an idyllic spot. 

Take a stroll through winding footpaths of the reserve that meander through meadows and forests of giant cedars and ancient oaks. In spring, you’ll see enchanting carpets of bluebells, primroses and daffodils, but whatever time of year you come, you’ll be treated to an array of wildlife, from chaffinches to woodpeckers. There are maps to find the footpaths going onwards to Snape Maltings, just over two miles away, and to the sea at Aldeburgh (or it’s seven minutes in the car). You can borrow some bikes too if you prefer to cycle.

You don’t have to go anywhere to get some fresh air, though. There’s a lovely old cobbled, sunny courtyard where clematis and wisteria clamber up the walls – it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the welcome hamper of breakfast goodies. There’s another patio area, too, with fragrant rambling roses – ideal for a glass of wine.

The home itself is a sympathetic conversion of a stable and grain store. We adore the character features inside, such as the traditional 17th Century Suffolk white brick flooring, wood-panelled walls and old oak floorboards. Part of the original manger has been incorporated into the wall dividing the kitchen and the living space area – a lovely touch. Open the stable doors here and listen to the blackbirds singing at dusk. Furnished with antiques, this cottage will appeal to couples and pet owners looking for a luxurious country bolthole.

Step back in time at this meticulously restored Regency cottage. Your hosts have poured their time and energy into sourcing period-specific reclaimed materials and equipping the home with antique furnishings to create a cosy and charming English escape that offers the very best of coast and country.

All that effort has clearly paid off, as evidenced by the beautiful interior. From the Victorian roll-top bath to the eighteenth-century range and the wainscotting on the walls – every effort has been made to make it feel as authentic as possible. Even the mod cons, such as the TV, are hidden away inside bread ovens that are built into the chimney so as not to shatter the illusion.

At the top of the narrow staircase is the twin bedroom, through which you enter the main bedroom – a pretty common arrangement for houses of this period.

Step outside, and you'll find a beautifully maintained nature reserve right on your doorstep. Your hosts bought it in 2015 and have spent the intervening years slowly restoring and exposing its beauty, with winding footpaths leading to conveniently placed benches, soaring Scots pine trees and ancient oaks – perfect for a reflective moment in nature or a ride on the supplied bikes.

For adventures further afield, you'll find maps detailing footpaths that run to the world-class concert hall at Snape Maltings, two-and-a-half miles away, and continue through forests and past lakes, leading all the way to the sea at Aldeburgh. 

The Miller's Cottage

If you're looking for somewhere that embraces slow country living yet has all the little luxuries you'll need for a getaway, this converted goat shed is sure to do the trick. Situated on the grounds of a family-run farm dating back as far as the 1300s, we think it's the perfect bolthole for a romantic, restful weekend in the great outdoors.

Inside, vaulted ceilings sport original wooden beams, while enormous glass walls flood the space with sunlight. Books and board games line the shelves, cushy sofas are perfect for snuggling and a delightful wood burner keeps everything toasty warm on chilly evenings. We love the small but well-equipped kitchen – you'll have everything you need to rustle up dinner – and the sumptuous bathtub is just the ticket after an invigorating walk through the countryside. On summer days, take your relaxing onto the private courtyard garden, gathering around the fire pit and firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast when you grow peckish.

Spend sunny afternoons strolling around the farm, admiring the prehistoric ponds – they're some of the last remaining ones in the country. This home is nestled in the heart of the Brecks, where wild forests, craggy heaths and twisted pines are rife for rambling. Something else we adore here is the owner’s beautiful private nature reserve behind this home. Take the dogs for a walk through the meandering footpaths that wind through meadows and ancient woodland. In spring, you’ll see captivating carpets of cheerful daffodils, bluebells and primroses. Whatever time of year you come, though, you’ll be treated to an array of wildlife, from nuthatches to woodpeckers.
 
There are maps to find the footpaths going onwards to Snape Maltings, an arts complex on the banks of the River Alde, just over two miles away. Or head to Aldeburgh (seven minutes in the car) – you can borrow some bikes and cycle there in around thirty minutes too.

What about the address? Well, the location is great – this home is situated in Burnham Market, a picturesque, leafy village with plenty of boutiques, while about six miles away lies Wells-next-the-Sea.

What's not to love about this coastal cottage? It sits on an acre of tree-lined gardens, with a natural brook running straight through the grounds. Just over the footbridge lies West Runton Common, where shops, pubs, a National Trust property and the sea are all within walking distance. It's a mere sixteen-minute stroll to the sandy beach and a nine-minute drive to Cromer – as far as locations go, you couldn't ask for better.

Inside, personal touches are everywhere, from the welcome hamper full of local goodies to the Alexa speakers with Spotify in every room. The heart of the home is the fully-stocked modern kitchen – we think it's a dream to cook in, especially with a glass of wine in hand, and the eight-seater dining table calls for family dinners and free-flowing conversation. While barbecues and cocktail hours in the garden are a must-do during the warmer months, we think there's no cosier spot to relax than the garden room. In the summer, the rain-sensitive electric roof slides open to reveal blue skies and refreshing sea air, while the open firebox and leather sofa are perfect for snuggling up in the winter.
