There are too many good things about The Hobart Spring to list, but suffice to say that it’s every bit as good as it looks. Most of the buildings date to the 1470s, when Sir James Hobart (later attorney general to the king) built his family home. Our favourite room (not an easy decision) is the kitchen, which looks beautifully traditional, but alongside the Aga, has an electric oven, gas hob, espresso machine and more. You can also pick herbs from the raised beds in the back. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

Step into history oozing with the finest luxury afforded to the home's guests, including ample space as, on top of the main hall, there’s also the Gatehouse, the Cottage, and the Garden Rooms, as well a separate barn for hosting events, and of course the grounds. The history of this home has been preserved immaculately, while at the same time, modern comforts are around every corner. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

The facilities available at the hall are second to none, with no need or whim uncatered for, including perfectly equipped kitchens, games room, library, a wealth of entertainment, cosy open fires and woodburners, lawns and meadows, and even a moat, and should you wish to prize yourself away from this phenomenal home and head on out to explore, the bustling seaside town of Great Yarmouth is just a twenty-seven-minute drive away, while the Norwich city centre can be reached in twenty-two minutes by car, and is perfect for those shopping needs. We highly recommend trying out the cosy pubs around the area for a good pint and perfect company.

The other benefit of it having been a farm, is that there is acreage for days. In almost every direction you look, you’ll be met with untamed flora to make mornings seated out front with a fresh coffee the sort of peaceful affair you need to fully unwind. This studio apartment may be small, but it more than makes up for the lack of space with an excellent location. In the heart of The Golden Triangle (also known as 'the Notting Hill of Norwich'), this flat is nestled among local pubs, cosy cafes, delicious restaurants and leafy parks. Plus, it's just a fifteen-minute walk to the city centre or you can catch a bus from the stop right outside the flat.

Pocket-sized yet cosy, we think this home is a great option for solo travellers, couples or those in town on business. The layout makes the most of the square footage – the bed is tucked away behind a small wall and the fully-kitted kitchen has a stylish bar-top counter with stools instead of the usual dining table. A squishy sofa and quirky wall art make for a real homely feeling– all in all, we think it's a comfortable place to rest your head and kick off your shoes after a busy day exploring Norwich.

Fondly referred to as the City of Stories, Norwich doesn’t like to do things by the book. And if the buildings here could talk, you’d certainly hear a tale or two. You’ll find almost every type of architectural style – from the modernist Norman-Foster designed Sainsburys Centre, to the Art Deco city hall, the medieval castle and Brutalist angles over at the University of East Anglia – but this charming home in a period property keeps things simple. Once a rectory in a former life, this handsome stone house surrounded by well-kempt grounds mixes rural charm with enough contemporary flourishes to make it palatable for 21st-century travellers.

A wander about the home will show you exactly what we mean. There's an emphasis on old-fashioned warmth and cosiness in many of the spaces, from the snug complete with a wood-burning fireplace and the library with shelves packed full of books to the master bathroom with a freestanding bathtub. By contrast, the kitchen is all sleek surfaces and clean lines, save for the Aga.

During the warmer months, guests have the option of heading outside and making the most of the wraparound garden, which has its own iron rose pavilion, a treehouse and a firepit by which to get toasty on summer evenings. The south-facing outdoor space is home to plenty of wildlife, which can be spotted using the telescope positioned by the library window.

If you want to see some non-native species, Pettitts Animal Adventure Park takes just over twenty-five minutes to reach in the car. It takes a similar amount of time to get to both Gorleston-on-Sea and the city of Norwich, so there are days outs for all tastes here.

Other attractions include the smallest pub in the UK and Norwich Cathedral, while a little further afield, Whitlingham Lake is worth a look, especially if you like water activities such as kayaking and canoeing.

Back at this home, pour a glass of wine and stroll through the grey-painted French doors into the pretty courtyard garden with its climbing plants meandering up the walls. Perched a five-minute stroll away from Caister-on-Sea Beach, this spot offers an idyllic setting for a family to come together for a refreshing break by the sea. Inside the home, a vast open plan living area, furnished with timeless furniture and decoration offers a sophisticated space to relax all year round. Whether you visit during the sunny summer's months or in the chill of winter, this home remains a warm, welcoming and tranquil place to retreat to when seeking an escape from the mundane. From the living space, large glass sliding doors invite in plenty of natural daylight from the outside patio – perfect for relaxing amidst the sea air. Fire up the barbecue or chill with a book in hand on the corner sofa, before heading down to the beach to catch the sunset. And if you head upstairs (and stand on tiptoes), you can catch a glimpse of the sea from the attic window – the beach is just 300 metres away after all. With three great waterways clamouring for your attention – the River Yare, Breydon Water lake, and the North Sea – the town of Great Yarmouth is quite the destination for watersports fans and beach bums. An eight-minute walk to Great Yarmouth Beach, this penthouse flat is perfectly located for shaking off the sand and cosying up after a long day of exploring. Set in a majestic, red-brick building in a Victorian style, you’ll be impressed from the offset. Ascending to the top floor, it only gets better. From up here, you’ve got gorgeous views of local sights like St George’s Plaza from a triple set of sash windows in the lounge. Pop a bottle of prosecco, say cheers to the start of the holiday, and check out the bustling scene below. In contrast, the apartment is fairly understated. Minimalist furniture and a sleek, white kitchen create a calming atmosphere, but a playful edge comes through with the dark turquoise feature wall. It’s a similar story in the bedrooms, with neutral tones, white, and yellow dominating the colour palette – ideal for relaxing after you return from an evening in the pub.

There are plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafes in town when you grow peckish, but being so close to everything means you can easily pop home for lunch if you fancy it. Safe to say, this is an excellent family pad for a seaside getaway.

A rural retreat with an almost embarrassing amount of charm, this thatched home dates back centuries and represents the best of Norfolk's architectural style. Carefully modernised and curated with stylish wall colours, art and a mix of antique and contemporary furniture, it's a fabulous space to unwind in unique surroundings. As well as a stunning historic home, it boasts a large, enclosed garden and a summer house to die for.  

Inside, the stripped-back, authentic character of this place is evident in the ancient beams, brick floors and inglenook fireplace. A comfy velvet sofa provides a modern twist but otherwise, the living room is dressed like it would have been a hundred years ago or so. Elsewhere there's a delightful country kitchen, a casual dining room and a midnight-blue TV room, along with a useful utility room and three gorgeous bedrooms.

And outside you'll find pretty gardens, along with a greenhouse and a deck for enjoying the sun. Step inside the summer house for the biggest surprise though. A lovely space for friends and family to socialise and eat together, it comes with a Scandinavian-style indoor barbecue cabin. 

Around half an hour's drive from both Diss and Norwich, you'll be deep in the country here so a car is essential, but there are great walks to be had nearby and the coast is around forty-five minutes away. Visit Southwold, Lowestoft and more for days out by the sea.

A stay in The Broads delivers more than just stunning scenery – with watersports, boating, cycling and birdwatching at your fingertips, all you need is a good base to enjoy them from. This rural home in Ludham is a little traditional, and you won’t find any modern features here, though it’s a comfortable and cosy space to return to at the end of a day at Horsey Gap Beach. The garden allows you to make the most of the sunshine, and while the fireplace is only decorative, the living room is a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine.

The real highlight of the apartment is outside space – complete with garden furniture, a barbecue and a tall wooden fence for added privacy – sitting out on the patio with a glass of chilled wine is a dreamy way to bookmark any day if you ask us. Perfectly placed, walk to sandy Great Yarmouth Beach in less than twelve minutes and be at Nelson's Monument and the lively town centre in under half an hour. We'd especially recommend a trip to the Merrivale Model Village if you're after a fun family day out – as with most of the popular attractions, it's well within reach here. 

Town Is By The Sea

Although the Norfolk coastline is only half an hour's drive away, you don't even have to get in the car if you fancy a refreshing dip while staying here. Out in the garden, a heated swimming pool will be the place to play and relax all throughout the summer months.

When the British weather has other ideas, however, there's plenty to like about the home's interior, too. The long living room benefits from big windows at either end so there's plenty of natural light, while the kitchen is both generous with surface space and finished in a fetching shade of mint green.

In the local area, there are distractions to appeal to guests of all persuasions. BeWILDerwood theme park takes seven minutes to reach in the car, while Wroxham Barns is a twelve-minute drive away. There's no shortage of walking routes and watersports opportunities in the surrounding Norfolk Broads as well.
