Grab your bucket and spades and hit the Norfolk coast at this modern, family home just a ten-minute stroll from the beach. Located in the charming seaside village of Caister-on-Sea, just north of Great Yarmouth, it's the village's endless sandy beach that's the biggest draw, and rightly so. An ideal starting point for inspiring coastal walks to Hemsby, Winterton, or Great Yarmouth; there's plenty of Norfolk's expansive coastlines to discover from here. Or for a spot of culture, head to Caister's 15th-century old castle (five-minute drive away) - now home to a royal range of vintage cars. When tummies start to rumble, there are pubs for hearty grub within walking distance and, of course, an obligatory fish and chip shop. Or head home for a barbecue in your private enclosed garden, where kids and dogs can roam free with sandy toes. Inside, this home is perfectly set up for an easy family holiday. Upstairs there are smart, clutter-free spaces, including a nursery room with a cot ready to go. Downstairs, the large breakfast bar in the kitchen is a fantastic spot to all come together to rustle up breakfast and hatch plans for a day exploring. Although with that glorious beach just a stroll away, we wouldn't blame you if you stayed precisely where you are.

Castles Made of Sand

This Georgian cottage brings all the genteel charm to match its picturesque Suffolk setting. Nestled in the seaside town of Southwold, you’re just moments from its sandy beach and bustling high street. Dating back to 1740, exposed timbers, cast iron fireplaces, and an original winder staircase show the bones of its past. Whilst chic all-white interiors, clean uncluttered spaces, and beautifully modernised bathrooms keep things fresh and current. A home to enjoy whatever the season – there’s a cosy lounge and open fire for winter months, and a pretty and secluded courtyard garden complete with a barbecue for making the most of sunnier days. With everything on your doorstep, you’ll find there’s no need for a car. Grab your bucket and shades and take a stroll down to Southwold Beach with its beach-lined promenade and pier, all just five minutes on foot – stopping off at the local bakery for picnic supplies first. And when tummies start to rumble, there’s fish and chips aplenty and many a local pub all within walking distance on the high street. With sands, sea and glorious surroundings, this is the British seaside at its best.

Postcard From Southwold

Step back in time at this meticulously restored Regency cottage. Your hosts have poured their time and energy into sourcing period-specific reclaimed materials and equipping the home with antique furnishings to create a cosy and charming English escape that offers the very best of coast and country.

All that effort has clearly paid off, as evidenced by the beautiful interior. From the Victorian roll-top bath to the eighteenth-century range and the wainscotting on the walls – every effort has been made to make it feel as authentic as possible. Even the mod cons, such as the TV, are hidden away inside bread ovens that are built into the chimney so as not to shatter the illusion.

At the top of the narrow staircase is the twin bedroom, through which you enter the main bedroom – a pretty common arrangement for houses of this period.

Step outside, and you'll find a beautifully maintained nature reserve right on your doorstep. Your hosts bought it in 2015 and have spent the intervening years slowly restoring and exposing its beauty, with winding footpaths leading to conveniently placed benches, soaring Scots pine trees and ancient oaks – perfect for a reflective moment in nature or a ride on the supplied bikes.

For adventures further afield, you'll find maps detailing footpaths that run to the world-class concert hall at Snape Maltings, two-and-a-half miles away, and continue through forests and past lakes, leading all the way to the sea at Aldeburgh. 

The Miller's Cottage

A restorative family-home with stylish interiors in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. Located just a seven-minute walk from the charming riverbank village of Horning, you'll have easy access to all of the local inns, restaurants, small shops and tea rooms. Back inside, it's a modern, beautifully decorated house with all of the mod-cons needed for larger groups to enjoy a comfortable stay. The colourful, light-filled living room benefits from bi-folding patio doors that extend out to a crowd-pleasing garden that boasts a spa-style hot tub, bar area and outdoor seating, so you can spend lazy evenings dipping in-and-out of the jacuzzi, sipping drinks and swapping stories. On chillier nights, chum up and challenge your friends and family to a round of pool or foosball in the games room. Or break open a bottle of wine in the sleek, chef's kitchen and plate up the catch of the day – there's plenty of fishing opportunities nearby, so be sure to bring your rods. In fact, the best way to discover this achingly quaint holiday destination is by hopping on one of the daily boat trips that take you all the way down the river and are readily available from in the village. 

Swallowtail Summer

If you’re looking for a real away-from-it-all retreat that’s truly one of a kind, then look no further than this home on the Norfolk Coast. Featured on Channel 4's Homes by the Sea, it’s located right next to the dunes at Winterton-on-Sea, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A former working lighthouse, it’s perfect for a peaceful stay with a surreal fairytale quality. When we visited, we were particularly impressed by the unusual round rooms that stack up on top of one another. Once filled with nautical equipment, these are now well designed spaces with beautiful furniture and objects, including an impressive library, bunk-bed room for kids, living room, and finally a lofty viewing platform bedroom (not for the faint hearted). Down on ground level you’ll find a contemporary open-plan space where you can cook in the shiny stainless steel kitchen or bask in the warmth of the wood burner as you eat dinner in the relaxed dining area. Folding doors give access out into the small garden for picnics or al fresco breakfasts. Families in particular will love the easy access to seaside life, including great fish and chips, good local pubs, parks and boat-trips. The Norfolk Broads is also nearby; the UK's largest wetland area, it's perfect for boating, cycling and walking. In short, this is a great home for those who want to experience everything a Norfolk staycation has to offer, while staying somewhere with real wow factor. 

The Norfolk Beacon

With a focus on rest and relaxation, this bright and dreamy home near the village of Colton is like a retreat for mind, body, and spirit. Everything, including the interior, is aimed at peacefulness and invoking a sense of calm. The neutral colour palette compliments natural materials like rattan and wood and is brought to life with wonderful bohemian touches. 

Put on a record and bask in the sound as you enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee on the plush sofa. Make it even more special by kindling a fire in the wood-burning stove. Practice mindfulness or go through a yoga flow in the full equipment yoga and meditation studio or read in the hammock until you’re lazy from the sun. There's also a sauna, ice bath, and outside shower.

When you need to catch up on work – or maybe you’re feeling inspired to start a new writing project – you can make use of the office space. Find your favourite nook – there are many strong contenders – and take a long, luxurious bubble bath whenever you please. 

The heart of Norwich isn’t far away – just under twenty-five minutes by car – and there is a pub and restaurant only a four minute walk from the house. Rest and relax like the space intends for you too and end every night by sitting around the fire pit, gazing up at the beautiful night sky. 

Bohemian Hideaway

Just a ten-minute walk from the beautiful Overstrand Beach sits a charming bungalow like no other in the area. With its Palm Springs-inspired design, complete with copious amounts of lovely wood panelling, furniture Tarantino could only dream of, and desert plants outside, you’ll need reminding that you’re just a short distance away from the North Sea.

The peaceful location will let you unwind and feel rejuvenated, as you enjoy your morning coffee in the mini-desert garden. Unleash your competitive side as you play a quick game of pool before you head out to explore the charm of Cromer, including taking a walk down its Victorian pier before indulging in some fish and chips. 

Whether you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life or simply want to experience something new, this property provides a blend of subtle luxury and relaxation. With its unique design, peaceful location, and close proximity to the charming town of Cromer, this is a trip you won’t forget in a hurry.

Cromer Springs

Perched on the edge of Blickling Hall Estate and fringing the chocolate-box village of Oulton, the setting for this adult-only hideaway is dreamy. All the cottagecore essentials are ticked off with original beams, a wood-burning stove, and a pretty, south-facing garden to call your own. Although it’s worth noting the home’s low beams and restricted head height might not suit the vertically blessed. With no amenities within walking distance, you’ll need a car here. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

Driftwood Garden

If you're looking for somewhere that embraces slow country living yet has all the little luxuries you'll need for a getaway, this converted goat shed is sure to do the trick. Situated on the grounds of a family-run farm dating back as far as the 1300s, we think it's the perfect bolthole for a romantic, restful weekend in the great outdoors.

Inside, vaulted ceilings sport original wooden beams, while enormous glass walls flood the space with sunlight. Books and board games line the shelves, cushy sofas are perfect for snuggling and a delightful wood burner keeps everything toasty warm on chilly evenings. We love the small but well-equipped kitchen – you'll have everything you need to rustle up dinner – and the sumptuous bathtub is just the ticket after an invigorating walk through the countryside. On summer days, take your relaxing onto the private courtyard garden, gathering around the fire pit and firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast when you grow peckish.

Spend sunny afternoons strolling around the farm, admiring the prehistoric ponds – they're some of the last remaining ones in the country. This home is nestled in the heart of the Brecks, where wild forests, craggy heaths and twisted pines are rife for rambling. It sits along the Peddars Way – ideal for walkers, cyclers and horseback riders travelling along the ancient route – plus it's within easy reach of Norwich and an hour's drive from Norfolk's stunning beaches when you fancy a day by the sea.

The Goat Shed

A splendid spot for a seaside break, this home is ideal for a family. It’s in the picturesque village of Happisburgh, with Happisburgh Beach a stone’s throw away. Admire sea views and breathe in that fresh coastal air from the garden, where you can spot a colourful lighthouse. The open-plan kitchen and dining space is the heart of the home, perfect for spending time together – fish and chips, anyone? After dinner, take your drinks to the games room for an evening of pool, or curl up in the cosy sitting room. 

The Coastal Gem

This rustic home has the charm of a contemporary farmhouse. Situated in the historic county of Norfolk, you'll feel right at home in this quaint village. The wooden beams and brick feature walls boost the natural vibes, perfectly matching the local area. Cook up a homemade Shepherds Pie for lunch in the kitchen with products bought from Colman's Farm shop. 

Speaking of the farm shop, why not spend time browsing the local products on offer? We love finding treasured businesses like this. Take the family to the nearby beach or challenge your children to a game of Adventure Golf, followed by a spicy curry at Planet Spice to tickle those tastebuds.

After a short drive home, pop a movie on the TV and snuggle up with a hot drink and a blanket – or maybe even a glass of red if you're feeling fruity.

Bricks of Caramel

As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.
