Summer’s evenings are spent in the fragrant country garden drinking Pimms and looking out over meadowland, and in the winter months, the wood burner keeps the cosiness levels running high. You’re just a short drive from North Norfolk’s stunning sandy beaches, and the bustling town of Burnham Market. If you don’t feel like a drive, the surrounding countryside is ripe for walking, and the local pub is just five minutes away.

Inside, there are no fast fads or current trends here. Just elegant and timeless interiors await with a charming inglenook fireplace at its heart (the underfloor heating keeps things toasty, too). Upstairs, the bedroom and dressing room perfectly evoke rural romance with a king-sized iron bed and feather-filled bed linens. While over in the bathroom, there’s a luxurious slipper bath for a pre-dinner soak with a glass of bubbly (stay the week, and your hosts will throw in the champagne for you).

If you fancy cooking at home, there’s everything you could need in the farmhouse kitchen, which leads out onto a suntrap, walled garden for alfresco barbecues. Though with the award-winning local pub, The Duck Inn just a waddle away across the pond, we wouldn’t blame you for eating out instead.  

When it’s time to spread your wings, you’re just a few miles inland from the stunning Royal Norfolk coast – designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for good reason. Tucked away at the end of a little lane, this charming converted barn offers an idyllic family getaway within easy reach of Norfolk’s stunning coastline. Dating back to 1796, this barn has been lovingly renovated to combine the home’s original features with modern touches. In terms of location, you’re in the quaint town of Stanhoe and just a few miles from the village or Burnham market, home to bakeries, cafés, a village shop and excellent pubs.

Here, you can look forward to spending your evenings curled up with a good book from the bookshelf and enjoying home-cooked meals in front of the log-burning fire on colder evenings. If the sun is shining, make the most of the charming garden – kids and furry friends will love the runaround whilst adults can sit back with a local cheeseboard. Countryside landscapes surround the settlement, but you can also stroll out to find pubs and traditional chip shops in the heart of the village. Your home would have formerly been a hub of prayers and song, but now stands as a luxurious holiday pad.

While the exterior is true to its original purpose, you’ll be stunned by the elegant decor inside. A colourful Persian rug lines the wooden floors in the lofty lounge, where chunky timber beams support a high, apex ceiling. But the most striking feature has to be the windows. Tall, panelled, and with coloured stained glass at the peak, the light just hits differently in this home. Burnham Market is a true champion against looking like any old town. The village has built its reputation on local businesses, quality, and uniqueness – and it's all within easy reach of the Norfolk Coast's sandy beaches. Such a great village deserves an appropriately unique stay, which is where this home comes in. The stone exterior gives the whole place a country feel, but the contemporary, velvety interior guarantees a comfortable stay. It's well-suited to families, and your host has made sure to make it feel as welcoming as possible. Each room is filled with light, especially the open-plan, dual-aspect kitchen and living area. That said, our favourite spot to unwind is the private garden. With a pizza oven, heated pavilion, and views of Westgate Orchard, it's the definition of an idyllic escape.

Grayling

With sweeping views over Norfolk’s iconic salt marshes and out to sea, this home is a retreat in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The large house is a brilliant base to explore this stretch of coast - birdwatchers will want to decamp to RSPB Titchwell Marsh or Holme Dunes, walkers have got miles of coastal path to stomp, while sunnier days are best spent playing on the sand on Brancaster Beach. If the weather isn’t playing ball, the sea is still all around - dinners in the dining room are set to a backdrop of the coast, while the garden has a BBQ when alfresco eating is possible. It’s only a short walk into the village of Thornham, which has several renowned restaurants, as well as a deli to stock up on local goodies.

With a cosy wood burner, a sunny courtyard and a comfortable living space, this cottage is an excellent base for exploring Norfolk any time of year. On chillier afternoons, snuggle up by the fire with a book or a board game, sipping wine and making yourself right at home. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking, but during the summer, fire up the charcoal barbecue and enjoy an alfresco dinner in the courtyard instead. Or if you don't feel like cooking, pick up something from the local chippy or head to the pub – both just a short walk away.

Sleepy and charming, Docking is a family-friendly village with ample to discover nearby. For your seaside fix, it's just a twenty-minute drive to some of North Norfolk's finest sandy beaches, including Old Hunstanton and Holkham. If you fancy trying your hand at crabbing, then our advice is to head to the harbour at Wells-next-the-Sea. And close by is also the Holkham Hall & Estate – a grand, stately home as well as a deer park and a lake with boats to hire.

On arrival at the idyllic Holkham Estate on the North Norfolk coast, you’ll feel like you’ve walked right onto the set of Downton Abbey. You’ll find this charming gatehouse from the mid-1800s on the southern fringes of the estate. Its style is simple and elegant, which lets the gorgeous countryside on the other side of the decorative lead windows do all the talking. Touches such as the log burner in the living room and a winged velvet sofa keep things cosy and faithful to the home’s character. There’s plenty of hiking and cycling to enjoy on the estate, not to mention checking out the grand main house, one of the UK's most spectacular country piles. But our top tip is the windswept Holkham Beach – an unspoilt stretch of coast where Gwyneth Paltrow walked through the sand in the last scene of Shakespeare in Love.

Combining period charm with modern comforts, you’ll have no trouble making yourself at home in the inviting beamed living area, where plump sofas and a wood-burning fire beckon snuggly evenings when the weather is cool. 

To the front of your home, you’ll find a lawned garden – ideal for sunny days when lawn games are in order – while to the back of the cottage, a table, chairs and a barbecue complete the picturesque patio.

When it comes to sightseeing, the Thornham Marsh nature reserve is a paradise for walkers and birdwatchers, while Thornham Old Harbour is an eighteen-minute walk away. You’re also a seven-minute drive from Brancaster Beach and the coastal town of Hunstanton is just four miles away. We recommend catching the Coast Hopper bus that takes you to Wells-next-the-Sea where you can try your hand at crabbing on the quay, or spot seals at nearby Morston.

Sunny mornings call for lazy breakfasts and countless rounds of tea in the charming walled garden. Then pack up your bucket and spades and head for the coast (just a short two-and half-mile drive away) to rejuvenate with its vast open skies and sandy shores – Hunstanton, Brancaster, and Holme-next-the-Sea are all nearby.

When tummies start to rumble, there’s a charming 19th-century pub just a short walk from the cottage for upper-crust grub and fine ales. Or blaze a trail to search out lip-smacking fish and chips and lashings of ice creams along the seafront in nearby Old Hunstanton – it would be rude not to.

Wild Rose

This Grade II Listed cottage has a fantastic location right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. Do some beachcombing on Wells-next-the-Sea Beach (around twenty minutes on foot). Then, afterwards, have a stroll along the Quay, a one-minute walk away, and enjoy some fish and chips or pick up some catch of the day from the pretty harbour. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants, as well as a delicatessen, butchers and fishmonger within a five-minute stroll. Take some local produce back to this lovely home, prepare a meal in the modern kitchen, and then savour it at the table in the sunny courtyard. Or when the weather turns chilly, light the log burning stove (your lovely host provides a starter pack of logs in the colder months) and relax with a glass of wine on the sofa. This stylish cottage is everything you would want from a seaside retreat – we love the original features, such as the old beams, which blend beautifully with the chic furnishings. With so much out and about, too, you’ll probably need to book again to fit it all in.

This gorgeous barn conversion, made of local flint and brick, is nestled in a tranquil spot in the glorious Norfolk countryside. We love the character here, especially the vaulted ceilings and exposed beams in the living space. This country retreat is perfect for entertaining your family and friends. On warm days, relax in the sheltered courtyard or the undercover seating area with its twinkly lights – ideal for a glass of Champagne as the light fades. A wildlife lovers paradise, you'll see your host's Guineafowl roaming around, while you may be lucky enough to spot barn owls or otters in the surrounding area. Pensthorpe Natural Park, as featured in BBC's Springwatch, is a fifteen-minute drive away, while Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve, home to the Hawk and Owl Trust is under a ten-minute drive. It's the same distance to the market town of Fakenham, with its weekly market, cinema, bowling centre and shops.  On the other hand, if you fancy a day at the beach, this home is only thirty minutes in the car from the North Norfolk coast, much of which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Thanks to a recent renovation, the decor has a contemporary style that still retains much of the home’s original character and charm. The exposed beams and large fireplace create a striking space in which to relax, and with the help of the wood-burning stove, you’re all set for cosy nights in. When you fancy an adventure outside of Wells, we recommend visiting Holkham Estate, where the adventure playground, woodland walks and art display are sure to please everyone in the group.

If you're looking for a luxurious, romantic retreat in Norfolk – this newly refurbished cottage could be the place for you. Unwind with a glass of Champagne in the hot tub at the end of the beautiful garden, filled with roses and other cottage garden plants. Later, settle down in the reading corner, next to the log burner, with a good book and a glass of wine from the wine chiller. We adore the vistas over the green and village pond from this cottage – it's the picture-perfect view. As night falls, have a long soak in the free-standing bath with the organic toiletries provided – utter bliss. Your lovely hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, from bathrobes and slippers to treats for your four-legged friends (if you're bringing the pooch). The next day enjoy breakfast in the light, contemporary glass dining room overlooking the garden. Then, pop over the road for lunch if you don't fancy cooking – one of the top five gastropubs in the area is right opposite. Afterwards, perhaps walk off all that lovely food with a stroll around the village with its pretty duck ponds. For a day at the beach – Old Hunstanton Beach is a thirty-minute drive away – so you can have the best of both coast and country. It doesn't get much more idyllic than this. 

The Shelduck

A vision of country cottage idyll in traditional Norfolk flint, this is an enchanting little spot for any trip to the countryside. Originally built in the 1800s, it sits in the village of North Creake with a cosy country pub just down the road and the ruins of old Creake Abbey a short walk away. For a grander day out, Holkham Hall is less than fifteen minutes’ drive away and it’s a twenty-minute drive to the sweeping sands of Holkham Beach. Perhaps pop to Wells-next-the-Sea (a ten-minute drive) to stock up on supplies and sample the local fish and chips.

Everything about this cottage is pure cosiness, from the idyllic facade to the wood-burning stove in the living room and the muted motif of soft blues and greys. The little kitchen is clapboard country-style and the breakfast table sits in a sunny conservatory spot overlooking the garden. A winding pathway of shrubs and hedges leads to a bench and shed for a quiet moment in the sun.

What a prime location this stylish cottage has – it's right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. You'll find a mix of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops to browse right on your doorstep. Or head to Holkham Beach (just over a twelve-minute drive away), where you may see the Household Cavalry riding their horses across the sands. It's just a twenty-minute stroll to Wells-next-the-Sea, too, with its pretty beach huts. After exploring all this town and the Norfolk coast offers, relax by the wood-burning stove (a starter pack of logs is provided in the colder months) or enjoy a coffee in the cute courtyard on warm days. Your lovely host has done a fantastic job sympathetically updating this place whilst retaining its original charm. When you're ready for a bit of rest, climb the traditional Norfolk winder stairs to the characterful and comfy bedrooms, before starting another exciting day of Norfolk adventures. This home is perfect for families, couples and friends who want to enjoy the great outdoors all year round.

Redshank

Boasting a privileged position at the heart of Wells-next-the-Sea, this picturesque home overlooking the town’s quay is a treat for all seasons. With the North Norfolk coast on your doorstep and a plethora of fun treats waiting to be enjoyed at home, there’s no end to the adventures in store. 

No stone has been left unturned in the careful curation of this home, with its welcoming open-plan living area beckoning board games by the fireside and the sun room offering a slice of relaxation whatever the weather. Open the doors here to step out into the large private garden – the perfect spot for family picnics and lawn games – or head out to the front of the home where you’ll find a raised seating area with picture-perfect views of the boats coming in and out of quay. 

Our favourite spot, however, has to be the main bedroom’s terrace. Accessed via a hatched window, you’ve got uninterrupted views of the water that you can enjoy over morning coffees as the sun dazzles over the stunning scenery, or with a nightcap as the stars twinkle above you. 

When you’re ready to venture out for some sightseeing, you’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes just minutes away, including along the quayside (a two-minute walk) which has a plethora of ice cream shops and arcades. You’re also a twenty-five-minute walk from the beach, while Holkham Hall and Holkham National Nature Reserve are both just a couple of miles away.


Shipyard Quay

Enjoy a spot of serenity with a stay at this charming and characterful cottage. It sits in a peaceful and prime location in Sedgeford, a quaint village just outside the Norfolk Coast AONB, where you'll find beautiful beaches and dramatic cliffs. This home features some stunning countryside views from its private back garden and also boasts having Peddars Way on its doorstep, a famous walking trail that you can access easily from the home, making it ideal for hikers and cyclists.

Nestled on the edge of Holkham Estate, this lodge is somewhere you can truly immerse yourself in nature yet still have the coast within easy reach. Perfect for couples and those keen to bring their four-legged friends along for the stay, there are countryside walks from your doorstep, with a stroll through Holkham Park a must. The enclosed garden is just the place for wildlife spotting as you relax in the evening, while locally, if you fancy a beach day, Holkham Bay is just a short drive away. 

The Sea Is You

Regular visitors to Norfolk will instantly recognise the dusty ginger colour of this cottage's facade. That's because it's constructed from Carrstone, an iron-oxide-rich variation of sandstone used to construct many of the local region's most famous buildings. Along with the surrounding crop fields, this exterior makes for a picturesque backdrop while sitting out in the garden.

Inside, the design is a little more contemporary, if straightforwardly so. The wood floors and exposed brickwork around the multi-fuel stove are in keeping with the rustic location, while the large kitchen and bathrooms are a lot more sleek and modern in comparison.

When you fancy a day out, the coastal town of Hunstanton and its beaches take just over five minutes to reach in the car and Sandringham Estate is only twenty minutes' drive away, too. Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve sits the same amount of time away and is wonderful for bird spotting.

Legacy Building

Forget East Norfolk – those in the know head West these days. The little-known stretch of coast from Hunstanton to Dersingham is off the main tourist trail and has an unspoiled charm that we can’t get enough of. This newly refurbished cottage can be found in the peaceful village of Snettisham. It’s a perfect home from home, with a sunny colour palette and a relaxed, homely vibe perfect for a family holiday. French doors open from the living room into the courtyard garden for coffees on sunny mornings and outdoor suppers in the summer. Snettisham has its own shingle beach and you’re just ten minutes’ drive from the sands of beautiful Brancaster. The hosts allow pets, so bring your pooch for long windy walks on the coast or under big Norfolk skies in the local nature reserve.
