If you’re looking for an escape to the country, you couldn’t do much better than this charming farmhouse located amidst North Yorkshire’s beautiful rolling hills. Surrounded by a working farm, you'll feel transported to another world as you step into this beautifully detailed home. Sink into the comfort of the leather furniture as you warm yourself by the roaring fire after a refreshing walk in the countryside. Later, gather around the large wooden dining table for a home-cooked meal and take in the breathtaking views of the Howardian hills.

If you like walking with purpose, head out to the nearby village of Ebberston and savour a pint of local ale at the pub. If you fancy a drive, explore the fascinating ruins of castles and abbeys, marvel at steam trains, and bask in the beauty of the sandy beaches as you traverse the picturesque North York Moors.

With its dune-backed beaches, charming fishing harbour and idyllic position on the Northumberland Coast, Seahouses makes a brilliant base for a seaside getaway. This apartment puts you within striking distance of all it offers. Back home, you'll find a cosy living area ideal for winding down after a day in the sun. It's not the roomiest layout, but we think it'll work well for a couple – and the private parking is a nice perk. The only downsides are the car park views and lack of outside space. But, as the beach is a short stroll away, we don't think you'll mind too much.

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

With cheerful pops of yellow dotted all around this home, you’ll likely wake up with a smile every morning, but the colour palette won’t be the only source of happiness. Only minutes away from South Bay, North Bay, and Cayton Bay, you’ll have access to some of the most beautiful beaches. Spend sun-drenched days in the sand, reading, eating more ice cream than you imagined you would, and dipping a toe in the water every now and again. 

Before heading out though, start your morning by making coffee in the generous kitchen, which you can then go on to enjoy with a side of fresh air as you sit out on the deck. Eat breakfast here or at the beautiful bench-style dining table just inside. When you’re back from a day at the beach, pour a glass of wine and curl up on the sofa with a good book, or spend evenings snuggled together as you watch a movie with a good helping of snacks. 

When you’re not at the beach, you can visit Scarborough Castle, the Scarborough Workhouse, or, if your idea of fun is a jump scare, Terror Tower. After dark, head out onto the deck to get a glimpse of the beautiful nights sky. 

Dandelion & Bumblebee

This charming cottage in Robin Hood's Bay has character in spades. Its interior, filled with quirky maritime antiques, harks back to the town's smuggler history – in the eighteenth century, silk, tea, and gin were illegally brought ashore on the Yorkshire coast in such quantities that the alcohol was used for cleaning windows. Even today, the lively village is full of winding narrow lanes, with fishermen selling their fresh catch of the day. Walk for two minutes, and you'll be on the sandy beach - perfect for sunbathing or rock pool exploration. The village of Robin Hood's Bay is just five miles from the seaside delights of Whitby (and its two-mile-long beach). It's also part of the North York Moors National Park, so you can forget about the city and hike through unspoiled nature or take the authentic steam train through the hills for a more relaxed scenic journey. After a long day of seeing the sights, return to this special cottage to warm up by the open fire or get the barbecue going on the patio in the summer months (perhaps accompanied by a gin and tonic you've smuggled in).

Ideal for a large family break and packed with character, there’s enough room for everyone, including your beloved pooch. The enclosed patio provides private access to the award-winning Glen Gardens, a pretty park where you can enjoy a morning stroll. If you want to venture further afield, enjoy a walk along the huge stretches of sand and cliff at Filey Brigg – don't forget to stop off at one of the Old Town’s traditional tea rooms or pubs along the way. After a day of exploring, gather the family around the eight-seater wooden dining table for a hearty home-cooked meal, before retiring to the comfort of the adjoining living area and its sofa, armchair and two loungers (which are perfect for curling up in front of the smart TV, if you ask us). There's also a separate lounge, offering a cosy spot for a cuppa next to the wood-burning stove. Come rain or shine, this is a wonderful seaside getaway.

A traditional stone cottage, with all the character features you could hope for, it's been smartly modernised with a lovely new kitchen and bathroom. With an unusual layout thanks to its sloping plot, it's a quirky and cute place to explore. Snuggle up on the pretty sofas in front of the log burner, eat your meals at the table in the kitchen or just admire the views from the bedroom windows. We love the clever little window seat in the master bedroom. Sleek and contemporary, this coastal apartment is an ideal seaside retreat for two. Not only is the location excellent – right in the heart of Filey, only a five-minute walk from the beach – but the mod-cons are pretty great, too. There's a luxe rainfall shower in the bathroom, a Nespresso machine for morning cups of coffee, two smart TVs and even a tablet for browsing the web. Everything you'll need is taken care of, so all you have to do is sit back and relax. The grey colour scheme is slick and modern, especially in the kitchen – with plenty of counter space, appliances and crockery, cooking is anything but a chore. But when you don't fancy whipping up something, there's a great collection of restaurants, pubs and cafes on your doorstep, plus plenty of shops, boutiques and activities to keep you entertained.
