This home is just as charming as the idyllic town in which it sits. The interior eschews minimalism for full-on floral patterns, characterful pieces of botanical artwork and vintage-inspired furnishings — can you honestly say you weren't happy to see that four-poster bed?

While the kitchen may be on the smaller side and lacks a hob, oven or cooking facilities, fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants in Woodstock, from a brasserie to less formal pubs. In addition, Blenheim Palace and its surrounding parkland can be entered in three mintues' walk from your front door. Further afield, the walking routes and viewpoints of the Cotswolds AONB can be reached easily in the car.

Masterpiece

This beautiful home ticks every box when it comes to a romantic place to stay. It’s tucked away in the countryside – but close enough to pubs and restaurants to be practical – so the views are glorious. You can spend your time curled up in front of the log burner, or sipping champers in the hot tub on the balcony.

The house is an eight-minute drive to the town of Thame. It’s at the foot of the Chilterns, so if you fancy stretching your legs there are lots of walks for you to enjoy. Otherwise you can spend your time strolling around the town, shopping in the markets that are held several times a week, and admiring the medieval, Georgian and Victorian architecture. 

If you’re anything like us, though, you’ll find it hard to tear yourselves away from this home. Your every need is catered for here so you’ll be in the lap of luxury. Open up the bi-fold doors to the garden in summer and dine alfresco, enjoying the outdoor space. Soak away your troubles in the magnificent bathtub, before slipping between the softest sheets. You’ll never want to leave. 


Butter Soft

Steeped in history yet thoroughly modern, this Grade II-listed cottage is heaped with country-chic character. In the open-plan living space, a soft sofa invites you to take the weight off your feet – ideally with a cup of tea or glass of wine in hand. After riffling through the book-stuffed shelves, head into the carefully conceived kitchen to chop, season and assemble dishes as your hungry companions wait eagerly in the bright dining area. 

Outside, a patio garden filled with plants and birdsong is the perfect spot to sip an espresso before exploring your surroundings. A thirty-minute walk or ten-minute bus ride places you at the Ashmolean Museum, famous for its collections of art and archaeology. Stroll around the University Parks and Christchurch Meadow on sunny afternoons or broaden your history knowledge at Oxford Castle. When it’s time for dinner, check out the restaurants, pubs and bars that cluster around Summertown and Jericho.

Highwayman’s Cottage

Built in 1916 as housing for English Railway workers, this modern townhouse now sits in a beautiful location near the river. Opposite the somewhat iconic Osney Power Station – the first powerplant in Oxford – it's also within walking distance of some of the finest bars and restaurants. The house is modern after a renovation in 2017, where the addition of skylights also brightens the home. The garden is a nice bonus here, where garden furniture and a barbecue occupy the deck in the backyard. 

A Sense of Railway

Standing tall on opposite sides of a stately courtyard, these two 17th-century homes exemplify palatial elegance. With one housing four guests and the other housing eight, this is perfect for family reunions or big groups looking to explore all that Oxford offers. 

After late-morning lie-in’s in the beautiful suites – think chandeliers, panelled walls, and corniced ceilings – you can come together in the courtyard to sit down for an alfresco breakfast. 

Venture out into Oxford, starting with the Castle on the opposite street before walking to the iconic university and stopping off at museums, cafes and shops. Evenings can be spent dining out at one of the many surrounding restaurants or seeing a show at the theatre. 

Upon returning, pour a glass of wine for the last bit of socialising under the stars. From there, treat yourself to a bubblebath before getting comfortable on the sofa with your favourite movie. 

The writers might want to call dibs on one of the suites with its own study. After a day in the medieval city, inspiration might strike, prompting you to write a midnight poem about “the city of dreaming spires”. 

17th-Century Hideaway

Inside, the rooms are well suited to relaxing, socialising or catching up on work. You’ll also find a complimentary welcome pack with basic essentials included in your stay. 

Beneath the Trees

Perfectly placed for exploring the best of the North Cotswolds, this peaceful cottage is as charming as its surroundings. Wake to garden views and fresh pastries from the village bakery, then head out to explore nearby Stow-on-the-Wold. Back at home, the open-plan living area is made for together time, prepare supper in the kitchen, then settle by the wood-burning fire with a glass of red. Upstairs, you’ll find two bedrooms with traditional touches. Outside, the garden is an ideal spot for alfresco meals and morning coffee. With space for two well-behaved dogs, this cottage offers a warm, relaxed base for country rambles. 

Cotswold Wisteria

This comfortable townhouse is perfect for families or groups of friends looking for a stylish base in Oxford. It’s located on a quiet cul-de-sac and overlooks a rugby club and a running track. A rarity for Oxford, the home boasts a balcony, garden, and two parking spaces. The house is cosy and practical, with desks for those working during their stay. Best of all, the historic centre of Oxford is just a ten-minute walk away. 

The Two Rivers

Just a few minutes from the university, we're not exaggerating when we say this 17th-century home places you in the heart of Oxford. Spread over three floors and with each room having its own ensuite and ultra comfy mattresses, you'll enjoy plenty of time to yourselves here. The unique design of the living area, where floral patterns abound, makes for a memorable spot to socialise, while the shared garden allows for alfresco dining – weather permitting, of course. As a bonus, two bedrooms offer views of Oxford Castle, while the excellent location means you can easily explore the rest of the city's attractions – museums, shopping, theatres and more are all a short walk away. 

When in Oxford

This secluded mansion has an owl barn and a dovecote, and plays host to red kites, herons, barn owls, mallard and many smaller feathered friends; it really is 'for the birds'. Perfect for large families or groups of friends looking for a rural escape, this is a fun-filled countryside haven. Comprising six acres of luxury fittings, high-class amenities and verdant scenery – you could spend days here and never wish to leave.

The active types – usually the kids – are entertained by the dart board or the table tennis in the games room. Away from the splendour of your pastoral palace, there is a golf course, horse riding and cycling routes in the nearby area. 

For those of you that prefer a more relaxing break, fishing spots are an idyllic place to while away the hours. Or pamper yourself at the nearby Red Barn Retreat beauty salon in the village, which offers an array of massages and treatments. But you don't even need to leave your home to indulge in a weekend of grandeur.

A private chef is available to rustle up some top-rate food in the kitchen, giving you a taste of Michelin class dishes. For a more intimate escape, you can keep things low-key with homemade food and drinks in the cosy living room.
