After many years unoccupied, this former barn was treated to a complete revamp in the late 2010s. Today, a remarkable home awaits guests visiting rural Oxfordshire. Huge glass walls and stark white walls mean that the space feels immediately bright and inviting, while there's a superb mix of modern touches and more homely furnishings — bold pieces of artwork and the sleek grey kitchen sit quite happily alongside deep red rugs and picnic baskets repurposed as coffee tables.

Out through the glass doors, there's a charming walled garden complete with a lawn, patio and neat plant beds. Bat boxes and an owl loft have also been incorporated into the property to help the local wildlife. If you fancy a little more nature-spotting, there are plenty of walking routes throughout the surrounding Blenheim Estate. The city of Oxford takes around twenty-five minutes to reach in the car, too.

This home is just as charming as the idyllic town in which it sits. The interior eschews minimalism for full-on floral patterns, characterful pieces of botanical artwork and vintage-inspired furnishings — can you honestly say you weren't happy to see that four-poster bed?

While the kitchen may be on the smaller side and lacks a hob, oven or cooking facilities, fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants in Woodstock, from a brasserie to less formal pubs. In addition, Blenheim Palace and its surrounding parkland can be entered in three mintues' walk from your front door. Further afield, the walking routes and viewpoints of the Cotswolds AONB can be reached easily in the car.

Inside, the double-height living room has a log burner for cosy nights in and some of the bedrooms can be set up as doubles or twins to suit your group. Location-wise, you’re a seven-mile drive from the market towns of Witney and Chipping Norton, and you’ll find a choice of local pubs in town – ideal for a well-deserved pint after a walk in the countryside. Your host Nick has worked very hard to ensure this home is as eco as possible including solar panels, triple glazed windows, underfloor heating, a clover lawn which sequesters carbon and even sustainable toiletries. A beautiful home thats also kind to nature - the perfect stay for the environmentally conscious.

Outside, a courtyard festooned with wildflowers is the perfect spot for lunches of Double Gloucester cheese and hunks of sourdough bread, picked up from the Farmers’ Market held every second Saturday. Pull on your walking boots and follow the Finstock and Evenlode Walk, a picturesque five-mile loop that starts in the centre of town and passes the Cornbury Park Estate. And when all of that rambling becomes thirsty work, the Bull Inn pub is less than five minutes from your doorstep – stick around for the Sunday roast and chocolate fondant tart.

We were particularly struck by the lofty, open-plan living space, which is flooded with light, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and has a sofa so wide and inviting you'll be hard pushed not to fall asleep on it while watching a movie on the 50-inch Smart TV. Also notable for its comfort is the super-king bed in the master bedroom with its crisp, white sheets and rose-gold bed frame. 

The home's location is a bonus too: Woodstock is charming, with plenty of boutique shops, galleries and cafes. Aside from Blenheim Palace, local sights include Daylesford Organic, Soho Farmhouse and the Burford Garden company, all within a thirty-minute drive, and the city of Oxford is just ten minutes away. This is a great stay you can bank on.

Sitting on the edge of the Cotswolds, this pet-friendly barn conversion overlooks the River Windrush water meadows. While some spots of this home have reduced privacy, including the mezzanine bedroom and an en-suite bathroom with two access points, we love the open-concept living space for casual itinerary planning. The complimentary starter pack and baby travel equipment offer bonuses, but there are gaps in the garden fence which makes supervision necessary. With ample parking, ticking Blenheim Palace and the Bodleian Library off your bucket list is easy.

Situated in the gorgeous Evenlode Valley, Charlbury is surrounded by beautiful Cotswold countryside. There are so many lovely walks to enjoy, including one along the River Evenlode to Ditchley Park. Hikers can also take advantage of the Oxfordshire Way, which passes through the town. For everyday needs, there’s a convenience store 300 metres away. A farmer’s market is also held quarterly on the 2nd Saturday in March, June, September, and December. 

Or pop to the local deli, just a one-minute walk from this home. It’s the same distance to the pub, a 16th-century coaching inn if you fancy a hearty meal or just a drink. Other attractions in the area include Blenheim Palace, which is 11 kilometres from this adorable cottage.

This storied stone cottage, stood among the atmospheric open fields of Old Minster Lovell, is the quintessential Cotswolds residence. Good sized and well equipped, it can accommodate three bedrooms, a farmhouse kitchen, a wood burning stove, a roll top bath, and a beautiful misty garden. Such a home does come with some watchouts – guests over six feet may struggle with the lower ceilings, while the steps up to the first floor are slightly precarious. But with so much charm, idyllic greenery all around, and excellent day trips for families and friends in close proximity, you'll find so much to love in these old stone walls.

This Grade II listed home happens to be one of the oldest buildings in Charlbury. And while some parts may date back to the 1400s, the rest has been thoughtfully curated to inspire optimum comfort and relaxation. It’s worth noting there are low ceilings on the top floor, but you will find an abundance of charm and a luxurious roll-top bath. There are parts of this expansive Grade-II listed home in the village of Long Hanborough that date back 900 years. There are others, however, that are more recent additions, especially in the two acres of grounds and various outbuildings that surround it. The large outdoor heated swimming pool is one of those, as is the adjacent hot tub and spa complex that includes a sauna and a steam room. The same can be said of the gym and games room, home to tables for ping pong and snooker. Elsewhere in the house, you'll find a record player and board games to try next to the warmth of the log burner, as well as a huge kitchen with an equally large skylight above it bathing the space in natural light. The Cotswolds AONB starts mere metres away, so there's no shortage of walking routes with which to fill warm afternoons.
