Back home, that south-facing garden with vast lawns steals the show. Inside, while some of the interiors may be a tad dated, the free-flowing living spaces, newly-fitted kitchen and sunny breakfast room more than make up for that.

Sat within the grounds of a working farm in rural Oxfordshire, this cottage is as cute as a button. The interior has been fully modernised — save for the stone fireplace — although it still feels homely thanks to the rural artwork on the walls and the plush furnishings. There’s a bit of magic at this home. It’s a windmill tower that dates back to the 1700s and has been carefully renovated into a fabulous romantic escape for two. You’ll enter the windmill via an oak door located on a grass roof and from there make your way up a stone walled stairwell to the second floor bedroom suite. Next floor up is a kitchen with everything you need to rustle up some tasty food. At the top of the tower, there's a lounge with panoramic views across three counties. When you’re not admiring the views or enjoying a drink outside, you might drive into Oxford or to nearby Blenheim Palace.

After many years unoccupied, this former barn was treated to a complete revamp in the late 2010s. Today, a remarkable home awaits guests visiting rural Oxfordshire. Huge glass walls and stark white walls mean that the space feels immediately bright and inviting, while there's a superb mix of modern touches and more homely furnishings — bold pieces of artwork and the sleek grey kitchen sit quite happily alongside deep red rugs and picnic baskets repurposed as coffee tables.

Out through the glass doors, there's a charming walled garden complete with a lawn, patio and neat plant beds. Bat boxes and an owl loft have also been incorporated into the property to help the local wildlife. If you fancy a little more nature-spotting, there are plenty of walking routes throughout the surrounding Blenheim Estate. The city of Oxford takes around twenty-five minutes to reach in the car, too.

From the moment you step inside, it feels luxurious – apt for a former financial building – with high-quality furniture and a serene, modern style complimenting original features like leaded windows and Victorian-style radiators. We were particularly struck by the lofty, open-plan living space, which is flooded with light, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and has a sofa so wide and inviting you'll be hard pushed not to fall asleep on it while watching a movie on the 50-inch Smart TV. Also notable for its comfort is the super-king bed in the master bedroom with its crisp, white sheets and rose-gold bed frame. 

The home's location is a bonus too: Woodstock is charming, with plenty of boutique shops, galleries and cafes. Aside from Blenheim Palace, local sights include Daylesford Organic, Soho Farmhouse and the Burford Garden company, all within a thirty-minute drive, and the city of Oxford is just ten minutes away. This is a great stay you can bank on.

Open up the solid ash double doors to a sun-soaked courtyard and explore a further 70 acres of woodland and meadow beyond – enjoy a leafy walk through the countryside and ensure you bring the complimentary picnic hamper with you for a charming lunch in the sunshine. Your host Nick has worked very hard to ensure this home is as eco as possible including solar panels, triple glazed windows, underfloor heating, a clover lawn which sequesters carbon and even sustainable toiletries. A beautiful home thats also kind to nature - the perfect stay for the environmentally conscious.

Part of a former bank that was built next to Woodstock Town Hall back in the early twentieth century, we think this newly renovated apartment is a pretty sound investment. The interior benefits from large sash windows that let in oodles of natural light, while there's a distinct mid-century inspiration with the furnishings — our favourite being the Art Deco sideboard on which the Smart TV sits. The bedrooms are both large and finished in a relaxing palette of muted greys, while the master bathroom is a sleek treat, especially the tub after a long day exploring all that Oxfordshire has to offer. The sprawling grounds and stately home of Blenheim Park can be reached in just three minutes on foot, while the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is right on your doorstep and isn't short of breathtaking hiking routes to follow.
