Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, this sprawling farmhouse is what rural getaways are all about. There’s plenty of room for the whole family here, including furry friends who’ll be desperate to join you on a long walk through bucolic Oxfordshire. Of course, the weather may not always be on your side, but when it is, the garden is the perfect place to unwind, boasting long picnic tables and a barbecue for dining alfresco. And if you’re in for a spot of rain, there’s a seat by the wood burner with your name on it.

A Farmer's Delight

Tucked down a quiet lane in the charming town of Charlbury, this honey-coloured bolthole is the perfect size for two. Comfort is at the forefront here, there’s a wood-burning stove that keeps both the lounge and kitchen-diner toasty, underfloor heating to warm toes after long rambles through the countryside and a super king size bed to fall into when you’re all worn out. Outside, a courtyard festooned with wildflowers is the perfect spot for lunches of Double Gloucester cheese and hunks of sourdough bread, picked up from the Farmers’ Market held every second Saturday. Pull on your walking boots and follow the Finstock and Evenlode Walk, a picturesque five-mile loop that starts in the centre of town and passes the Cornbury Park Estate. And when all of that rambling becomes thirsty work, the Bull Inn pub is less than five minutes from your doorstep – stick around for the Sunday roast and chocolate fondant tart. 

Ivy & Crown

If a chocolate-box cottage in a charming Cotswold town is what you’re after, then look no further than this Grade II listed, 17th-century abode. Situated in pretty Charlbury, the place is surrounded by glorious countryside – and more importantly, it’s a three-minute walk to the pub. Follow a bridleway that runs alongside the river to Ditchley Park or set out on the five-mile Finstock and Evenlode loop. Come home wind-whipped and worn-out to a cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove. Light the fire and hunker down as a private chef, booked via your fantastic host, gets to work in the kitchen. Should your aching muscles need a little attention, request for an expert massage therapist to treat you to an indulgent pamper session. When it’s sunny out, spend your afternoons relaxing on the patio as the barbecue expectedly sizzles in preparation for long, lazy lunches. At the end of another idyllic day, retreat to quiet bedrooms for a peaceful sleep in sumptuous beds. 

The Village Charmeur

Tucked away in Shilton just outside the Cotswolds AONB, this 17th-century cottage is packed with character. The wood-burning stove and timber beams create a delightfully cosy atmosphere indoors, while the honey-stone exterior is the picture of Cotswold charm. Three bedrooms are located in the main house. An annexe houses the fourth bedroom, making it ideal for grandparents or couples seeking extra privacy. Come summertime, you can enjoy dinner and drinks on the patio – or, even better, head to the local pub a five-minute stroll away. Fancy a change of scenery? Popular spots like Burford, Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Oxford are within easy driving distance.

Shilton Stone

Flooded with natural light, this idyllic country cottage is the perfect getaway for a group or family looking to up sticks and throw themselves into Cotswolds living - it's no wonder it won Silver at The Beautiful South Awards 2022. Dating back to 1850, it has an abundance of original features (including exposed brick walls, a spectacular fireplace, rich wooden beams and stone walls), but a luxurious, contemporary makeover has transformed it into an extraordinarily comfortable stay. 

The two lounges are the heart of the home, made extra cosy by the roaring inglenook wood-burner and underfloor heating, and they make it so you'll never want to leave once you're stretched out on one of the sofas. Oh and you'll be wowed by the spectacular sun room all the same. Guests who love to cook will enjoy making use of the large kitchen and hosting dinners either in the stone dining room or out on the sunny terrace with its glorious countryside views. The bedrooms are all elegantly styled with soft colour schemes and goose-down bedding – we particularly love the Barcelona chair in front of the French doors in the master bedroom, as well as the gigantic free-standing bath, perfect for an indulgent bubble-filled soak. 

With such stunning interiors, you'll be torn between cosying up and outdoor living while staying here – but the pristine, flower-filled garden that surrounds the home will have you jumping with joy once the sun comes out. Enjoy discovering the local charm of the Cotswolds which combines peace and quiet with endless nature and a touch of quintessential English countryside culture. 

Honey Gables

A studio apartment with the feel of a Cotswold cottage, this home is aimed at solo travellers seeking a peaceful retreat, or couples looking to explore the picturesque surroundings. Aside from the bathroom, you'll find all the comforts and amenities in one space –  the open plan living room backs straight onto the king size bed, with a dining table for two tucked in the corner and a small kitchen area which actually fits in plenty of useful appliances. While the courtyard is accessible and shared with residents of two other apartments, the garden is not, though the home's location in Burford means you'll be around half an hour's drive from some of the area's most famous cities and charming towns.

Cotswold Sunset

With its 16th-century character and wealth of amenities, this manor home is an absolute dream. Inside, space is anything but tight. In addition to the two cosy sitting rooms – both with woodburning stoves – you'll find a large kitchen, formal dining room, and a piano area for budding musicians. Each bedroom is as comfortable as the next, with the top-floor one perfect for little ones. As for the garden, the views of the countryside steal the show. There's plenty of room for children and pups to run amuck while adults enjoy a sundowner or two. Location-wise, Shifford is driving distance from Burford, Oxford, and the Cotswolds – all great options for day trips.

This storied stone cottage, stood among the atmospheric open fields of Old Minster Lovell, is the quintessential Cotswolds residence. Good sized and well equipped, it can accommodate three bedrooms, a farmhouse kitchen, a wood burning stove, a roll top bath, and a beautiful misty garden. Such a home does come with some watchouts – guests over six feet may struggle with the lower ceilings, while the steps up to the first floor are slightly precarious. But with so much charm, idyllic greenery all around, and excellent day trips for families and friends in close proximity, you'll find so much to love in these old stone walls.

Minster Meadows

Just outside the bustling centre of Charlbury, you’ll find this cosy cottage. Stepping inside, there’s an abundance of character, tradition and all the home comforts you could need for a relaxing stay. All of the bedrooms come with en-suite bathrooms and one of the rooms is located in the adjacent annexe – perfect for those seeking a little extra privacy. There’s also a little terrace and a small garden for warm weather days. And when it comes to adventures, you can stroll to the nearest pub and shop, while beautiful hiking trails can be found within easy reach.


Shining With Joy 

This Grade II listed home happens to be one of the oldest buildings in Charlbury. And while some parts may date back to the 1400s, the rest has been thoughtfully curated to inspire optimum comfort and relaxation. Set across three floors, the rooms are cosy and well-suited to families. It’s worth noting there are low ceilings on the top floor, but you will find an abundance of charm and a luxurious roll-top bath. There is also a walled courtyard and your host can arrange sweet extras like hampers and food boxes. From here, it’s just a short stroll to the nearest shops and pubs, while hiking trails can be found within easy reach. 

The Ship's Timbers

Perfect for a romantic retreat in the countryside, this one-bedroom home is the ideal escape from the city right in the middle of the Cotswolds. Its picture-book natural beauty – with access to open meadows and fields right outside your doorstep – is the first thing you’ll notice, but inside is just as idyllic. Upon crossing the threshold, you’ll find a bright, open-plan living space with a comfy lounge, a fully equipped kitchen, and a dining nook for two. The king-size bedroom is made for lazy mornings, and the sunny front patio is the perfect spot for your morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Venture out to the nearby Cotswold Wildlife Park, or take a short drive to Oxford.

Quiet in the Countryside

Tucked in the pretty village of Milton-under-Wychwood, this home opens its doors to a cosy Cotswolds stay. Private parking is available for one car and it’s just a short stroll to an award-winning pub. It’s also a great base for exploring the Cotswolds. From here, it’s just a short drive to Chipping Norton and Stow-on-the-Wold.
