Location-wise, you’re a seven-mile drive from the market towns of Witney and Chipping Norton, and you’ll find a choice of local pubs in town – ideal for a well-deserved pint after a walk in the countryside. Your host Nick has worked very hard to ensure this home is as eco as possible including solar panels, triple glazed windows, underfloor heating, a clover lawn which sequesters carbon and even sustainable toiletries. At the back of the cottage, you'll find a hidden garden with a patio, small lawn with a garden bench, planted borders as well as a cute little summer house – perfect for sitting with a book amidst the peace and quiet. The east-west orientation of the garden means it has sunshine on it – weather permitting – throughout the day and on into the evening, making it an idyllic spot for a morning coffee through to evening drinks.

When you're ready to explore the local area, stretch your legs with a blissful country walk around the Cotswolds. Try a five-mile walk out of Burford to Great and Little Barrington along the Windrush Valley and back again, or there's always the option of the two-hour circular walk taking in Fulbrook and Woodford on your way. Burford garden centre is only a mile away and you'll conveniently find the nearest pub (The Highway Inn) just 300 metres away.

Sitting just outside of Burford, this first-floor annexe provides a cosy retreat in a wonderful location. It’s worth noting the space is compact, but it’s ideal for couples or solo travellers in search of a simply stay in a great setting. There is an enclosed garden, private parking and easy access to hiking and cycle trails across the Cotswolds. It’s also just a short drive to the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, while Oxford is just a short car journey away.

This Cotswolds stone barn sets the tone for an idyllic English countryside escape. With a provincial feel, antique furniture and soft, creamy hues, this home perfectly embodies a modern, country chic style. We were blown away by the vaulted beamed ceilings, sleek bathrooms (complete with rainfall showers) and the fully-equipped kitchen. But the star of the show is the Scandinavian-style log-burner. When it's chilly out, throw another log on the fire and sink a little deeper into the comfy couch, a well-thumbed book in hand. But when the weather's glorious, outside is where you'll spend most of your time. The private terrace is an excellent place to tuck into the goodies from the welcome basket – which is filled with local produce, fresh-squeezed apple juice and a complimentary bottle of  Pomerol – while the surrounding gardens have multiple play areas to keep kids entertained. There are also many on-site amenities to entice you, from the spa (considered one of the best by Tatler) and communal games room to the shared indoor pool and gym. If you're looking to go further afield, cycle and hike around the local area or drive for twenty minutes to chocolate-box villages nearby, including Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Burford.
