Pretend you're an Oxford don for the weekend at this spectacular garden-level Victorian home in the heart of the world-famous university city. This apartment is steeped in history and has some gorgeous original features, including spectacular bay windows in the living room, an ornate stone fireplace and buffed wooden floors. Back at home, there's a distinct Scandi feel about the modern apartment. Guests rave about how pristine and fresh the interiors are, and we'd agree. In a residential neighbourhood just outside of Oxford, this apartment offers a comfortable home-from-home with great connections to the centre. There’s parking here, so you can easily drive into the city, or hop on the bus just outside the apartment. The patio may not be the most inspired, though it’s a nice option for morning coffee. Similarly, the kitchen is a little dated, but it’s well-equipped for nights you feel like eating in. That said, you’ll find Headington's local pubs and cafes within walking distance.

In the picturesque village of Wolvercote, just three miles north of Oxford’s city centre, you will find this pretty Victorian conversion home that overlooks an ancient meadow land called Port Meadow, which runs along the River Thames and into Oxford. Some residents, even have ancient grazing rights to keep horses, cattle, and geese in the meadow, so keep an eye out for animals as you explore the area.

Enjoy leisurely breakfasts on sunny mornings in the sun-trapped and walled rear garden with its pretty plants making it ideal for alfresco dining. We would also love nothing more than to spend some time quietly reading here too before we head out for the day. Visit the historic Oxford city centre – which can be reached in just three miles by car. Or, if you have plenty of energy, then Oxford can be reached by walking along the canal or across the meadow. 

Then, after a busy day, return home and cook delicious dinners in the handmade bespoke oak kitchen with its gas double oven, and dine alfresco in the courtyard garden.

The castle is just around the corner, and if you walk a hundred metres further, you’ll find yourself in among the colleges. Inside it’s all modernity – a far cry from the dreamy spires of the city centre, but fitting for a bolthole this close to the buzzing Westgate Shopping Centre. A curated collection of trinkets and bold modern art livens up gallery-white walls and a welcome hamper awaits your arrival, complete with coffee pods. The open-plan living area is a social space to unwind after a day exploring the cobbles and quads, and both bedroom have king-size beds so there’s no fighting over who gets the master. The icing on the cake is the little balcony, just off the dining area, with a bistro set for two.

In the idyllic Oxfordshire village of Stanton St John, this red-roofed barn conversation is the best of country and city. It may be a rural base, but the charming centre of Oxford is a fifteen-minute drive away. Stanton St John has everything you need with a village shop and farm shop within a five-minute walk. Plus, meandering country walks are right on your doorstep. The home itself has been beautifully designed, with honey-hued stonework fitting in with the rustic aesthetic and a wooden pergola dappled with climbing plants shading the outdoor seating area. Just next to this there’s a big lawn which creates the back garden. Glass folding doors open up to blend indoors with outdoors so you can listen to the hum of bees and smell the flowering lavender from the breakfast table.
