After many years unoccupied, this former barn was treated to a complete revamp in the late 2010s. Today, a remarkable home awaits guests visiting rural Oxfordshire. Huge glass walls and stark white walls mean that the space feels immediately bright and inviting, while there's a superb mix of modern touches and more homely furnishings — bold pieces of artwork and the sleek grey kitchen sit quite happily alongside deep red rugs and picnic baskets repurposed as coffee tables.

Out through the glass doors, there's a charming walled garden complete with a lawn, patio and neat plant beds. Bat boxes and an owl loft have also been incorporated into the property to help the local wildlife. If you fancy a little more nature-spotting, there are plenty of walking routes throughout the surrounding Blenheim Estate. The city of Oxford takes around twenty-five minutes to reach in the car, too.

While some spots of this home have reduced privacy, including the mezzanine bedroom and an en-suite bathroom with two access points, we love the open-concept living space for casual itinerary planning. This home is just as charming as the idyllic town in which it sits. The interior eschews minimalism for full-on floral patterns, characterful pieces of botanical artwork and vintage-inspired furnishings — can you honestly say you weren't happy to see that four-poster bed?

While the kitchen may be on the smaller side and lacks a hob, oven or cooking facilities, fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants in Woodstock, from a brasserie to less formal pubs. In addition, Blenheim Palace and its surrounding parkland can be entered in three mintues' walk from your front door. Further afield, the walking routes and viewpoints of the Cotswolds AONB can be reached easily in the car.

Situated in the gorgeous Evenlode Valley, Charlbury is surrounded by beautiful Cotswold countryside. There are so many lovely walks to enjoy, including one along the River Evenlode to Ditchley Park. Hikers can also take advantage of the Oxfordshire Way, which passes through the town. For everyday needs, there’s a convenience store 300 metres away. A farmer’s market is also held quarterly on the 2nd Saturday in March, June, September, and December. 

Or pop to the local deli, just a one-minute walk from this home. It’s the same distance to the pub, a 16th-century coaching inn if you fancy a hearty meal or just a drink. Other attractions in the area include Blenheim Palace, which is 11 kilometres from this adorable cottage.

And when all of that rambling becomes thirsty work, the Bull Inn pub is less than five minutes from your doorstep – stick around for the Sunday roast and chocolate fondant tart.

Location-wise, you’re a seven-mile drive from the market towns of Witney and Chipping Norton, and you’ll find a choice of local pubs in town – ideal for a well-deserved pint after a walk in the countryside. Your host Nick has worked very hard to ensure this home is as eco as possible including solar panels, triple glazed windows, underfloor heating, a clover lawn which sequesters carbon and even sustainable toiletries. A beautiful home thats also kind to nature - the perfect stay for the environmentally conscious.

Aside from Blenheim Palace, local sights include Daylesford Organic, Soho Farmhouse and the Burford Garden company, all within a thirty-minute drive, and the city of Oxford is just ten minutes away.
