Once you've wandered about this home nestled away in the North Yorkshire countryside for the first time, it probably won't come as a surprise to learn that it was once a hotel. The vast size of the building and its grounds partially give the game away, but there's also something about how the communal areas are arranged, especially the pool table and bar that make it an especially sociable space.

You'll also get a sense of the home's heritage pretty quickly as well. Located on a farm that dates back to the 18th century, there's a strong rustic charm throughout the interior, from the wooden ceiling beams and stone archways to the open fireplace that's wonderful to retire next to after a long bout in the great outdoors. 

Speaking of which, there's a whole host of amenities on the grounds for when the forecast is being kind to you. As well as a large lawn and lots of equipment for playing games, there's plenty of seating for alfresco feasts, as well as a hot tub that's an idyllic spot for a nightcap, especially once the stars are out in the sky.

In the local area, there's a wealth of attractions to be discovered, from the Victorian spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea just two-and-a-half miles away to the Cleveland Way National Trail, which can be reached on foot and rewards those that follow the path with views of the dramatic coastal landscape.

Whether you're visiting as a group of friends or a small family, the two bedrooms have been immaculately put together for a great night's sleep, so that all you have to worry about is how to spend your time. Located in the heart of town and a short two-minute stroll to the station for those arriving by train, you'll find pubs and cafes on your doorstep. The beach is not far either, just a mere eight-minute walk away, so you can spend languorous days idling on the Saltburn sands – from here, active types may opt to take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade and arrive at the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. It's a fantastic stroll, overlooking the colourful beach huts and dramatic high cliffs. 

Eavesdropping

Stay a two-minute walk from the golden sands of Saltburn Beach – this freshly renovated home is primed for a seaside escape. Go for surf lessons or do some beachcombing. Alternatively, hike the glorious Cleveland Way – its a great way to explore the rugged North Yorkshire coastline. For amazing views of the North Sea, take a ride on the Cliff Tramway. Or simply enjoy the many restaurants, pubs and cafes on your doorstep.

When you're not trying the town's fantastic eateries, make use of the sleek, grey kitchen at this stylish, professionally interior designed apartment. Wading In The Velvet Sea

The Victorian spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea makes for an excellent seaside escape. It’s a real coastal retreat, surrounded by charming seaside towns and villages – you can use Saltburn as your base for exploring the area. 

This charming apartment is ideal for romantic getaways, and equally well suited to solo stays by the sea. We love the traditional beams and cosy, homey vibe. You’ll feel at home the instant you arrive at this stylish abode. Best of all, the apartment boasts sea views. Wake up each morning to see the sea rushing ashore. Step out onto the balcony to sip your morning coffee, and breathe in the sea air. The blue-tiled kitchen is a lovely spot for your meals, whether you’ve whipped up a cooked breakfast or are unwrapping fish and chips for your evening meal. 

It’s just a short walk down to the beach, where you can build sandcastles, skim stones, or even try out the surf. Saltburn is also home to the UK’s oldest functioning cliff lift – enjoy the ride down to the promenade. Later on, stroll along the 208-metre-long pier with an ice cream – we do love to be beside the sea.

Built in 1862, this character-filled home that was once a stable boy's accommodation is now a cosy and atmospheric 21st-century getaway. We love every irresistible inch, from the light-filled skylights and gorgeous sea views down to the glossy parquet floor. The sumptuous master bedroom is so stylish, it's hard to believe it's all upcycled from cladding and roof joists, and the master bathroom is even better. Relax with a soak in the lavish free-standing bathtub or rinse off under the rainfall shower. The living area is warm and incredibly comfortable. In the mornings, open the bi-fold doors and sip your coffee on the Juliet balcony, watching the ocean waves from the floor-to-ceiling windows. After a tasty breakfast rustled up in the blue kitchen, head up to the roof terrace to soak up the sunshine. Decked out with lush greeny and a barbecue, you'll want to spend every minute you're not at the beach sitting up here, enjoying alfresco meals and sipping cocktails as the sun sets over the water. Speaking of the sea, it's just a five-minute walk down to the beach or into town, where you can snack on fish and chips and grab a pint at one of the local pubs. Shopaholics can browse Saltburn-by-the-Sea's independent boutiques, keen hikers can walk along the Cleveland Way or for a more leisurely pace, just stroll along the Victorian pier, relishing in the salty sea air.

The Stable Boy

Located in the quaint Victorian Spa town of Saltburn, this home is a pretty wonderful example of the phrase ‘dynamite comes in small packages’.
