A Day in the Country

Situated within the idyllic Gotha Gardens at Pembroke Farm, this cottage stays true to its farmhouse heritage without giving up on any modern luxuries. While you'll have plenty of privacy here, this place provides ample opportunity to socialise with the farm's flock of sheep, lambs, hens, and peacocks if you please. 

Inside, enjoy taking in the sweeping country views from the open-plan living area in style. Contemporary furnishings with a gorgeous green colour palette that nods to the surrounding flora and fauna present a calming space to feel at home in. Serve up homemade meals at the dining table after delightful days of discovering the local area. Relax in the private gardens, perfect for summer lunches and lawn games in the sunshine. Come evening time, there's no better spot than the fairy-light lit alcove to watch the sun set over the horizon. 

Nestled within ten minute's walking distance from the village of Rowsley, take afternoon strolls along the River Wye, or lace up your boots and hike to Nine Ladies Stone Circle on Stanton Moor. Further afield, you're just a ten-minute drive from the picturesque and historic market town of Bakewell, and five minutes from one of the country’s finest estates, Chatsworth House, home to an impressive art collection, beautiful gardens, water features and acres of park and woodland.

Staying at Bakewell Pudding is as much about experiencing your hosts' attentive service as it is about staying in a quaint cottage in a great location. A handy parking permit will be waiting for you on arrival, and while the space is a few minutes' walk to the front door, you'll get to start exploring the lovely village of Bakewell. You'll find independent coffeeshops and restaurants two minutes away, and your hosts will let you know their favourite ones too. The cottage is such a cosy space to return to and offers opportunities for unwinding both indoors and outdoors. Make use of the immaculate patio when the sun is shining, or retire inside for a relaxing evening by the the cracking fire. With the Peak District on your doorstep, you won't run out of activities to fill up your day. Hike the Monsal trail or plan a visit to Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall – there's something for everyone.

Bakewell Pudding

This Grade II-listed, chocolate-box cottage is as charming as they come. It's located in Preston on Stour, just a short drive from The Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon. Surrounded by quiet country roads and nearby English pubs, it's an ideal base for a solo retreat or romantic getaway. The garden is as pretty as a postcard, and the bistro table is perfect for meals alfresco during the warmer months. That said, you're more likely to be cosying up beside the fire and getting lost in a good book, considering England's unpredictable weather. Brimming with 16th-century charm and with lots to see and do close by, this place ticks a bunch of boxes.

Shakespeare & Juliet

Part of Rectory Farm in the East Midlands (fifteen minutes from the lovely Market Harborough), this slick barn conversion is the epitome of luxury country living. Outside, you're surrounded by fourteen acres of rolling countryside, while inside, soft furnishings, mood lighting and striking original artwork create a cosy and relaxing atmosphere. We loved the folding glass wall in particular – it overlooks the landscaped garden, and on warm days, you can open the doors and bring the outdoors inside. Spend days roaming the grounds and finish the evenings with a board game or family movie night in the lounge. Your hosts have considered every single detail, and the list of mod-cons feels endless – we're talking a popcorn maker, electric blackout blinds, power showers, no less than four Amazon echos, two smart TVs with Netflix, an Xbox One (complete with games) and a super high-spec kitchen that has everything you'll need to rustle up a delicious dinner. During the winter, the underfloor heating protects toes from getting chilly, and there's a full summer kitchen with a gas barbecue and seating for eight on those long summer nights. And if you're worried about the strain all the gadgets might put on the environment? Don't be – the hosts have even considered that, and the whole home runs on solar power and air-source heating.

Rectory Barn

This is an extra-special home in the grounds of an award-winning boutique vineyard. It’s been carefully curated to offer everything you might need during your stay, and for you to enjoy your visit in the lap of luxury. 

The home is a contemporary villa with vast windows looking out onto the vineyard and the rolling countryside that surrounds the property. The open-plan living and dining space is perfect for chatting over food and sipping wine – there’s even an honesty box wine bar for you to sample the wines produced by the vineyard. A striking nickel bar – like at The Ivy – has pride of place in front of the huge picture window overlooking the vineyard. There are also full height glass patio doors which open onto a wonderful private guest garden and patio.

Outside, pop open a bottle of chilled white or rosé wine and sink into the jacuzzi while the barbecue heats up. When the weather is fine, you won’t want to be anywhere else – there’s a comfy sofa and loungers, ideal for relaxing, and a tennis court if you want to work up a sweat. Dining outside with beautiful views laid out before you is utterly idyllic, especially when the sun starts to sink in the sky. 

If you feel the urge to explore, there’s plenty to see and do in the vicinity. The villa is a four-minute drive from Toppesfield village, where you can enjoy a meal in the community-owned pub. Finchingfield, the most photographed village in Essex is 10 minutes drive. For history enjoy a stroll around Castle Hedingham with its thatched cottages and amazing Norman castle. Saffron Walden, a medieval town – is thirty-six minutes away. There you’ll find a wealth of independent shops, cafes and restaurants around the buzzy market square as well as beautiful historic buildings, gardens, museum and art gallery. 

This is a memorable home for romantic visits to this picturesque area on the Essex/Suffolk border. Make sure you take a bottle of the vineyard’s award winning wine home with you – it’s the perfect memento.


An East Anglian Vineyard

On a sprawling estate in the heart of Sherwood Forest, this manor is perfect for big groups looking for country strolls and myriad entertainment options. Apart from a private hot tub, tennis courts and a state-of-the-art barbecue station, there are woodland walks and lawn games to fill your days here. Come evening, retire to one of many lavish lounges inside, or gather in the banquet-sized dining table. Kids and big kids will enjoy the games room with its pool table and retro arcade games and if you’re hosting a special celebration, there’s a function room that can seat up to 50 people in grand surrounds. This is one of those spots where memories are made.

The Country Slicker

This unique home was a bakery in the 1950s but it was converted by the host's parents, who both worked at the Lincoln School of Art. As well as being a day job, they also had a strong interest in artistic endeavours and they filled the interior with hand-crafted ceramics, fabrics and paintings. Today, much of their collection remains and it lends the feel of part-museum, part-period home — especially with the hardwood floors and wood-burning fireplace. The large garden is equally special too, with a pond full of frogs and plenty of lawn space on which to lie back with a book borrowed from the packed shelves in the dining room. When you fancy exploring your surroundings, the city of Lincoln is thirteen minutes away in the car, while the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty can be reached in just over twenty. Closer to home, there's a pub two minutes' walk around the corner.

Where The Art Is

This charming Grade II listed cottage is located in Broadwell, one of the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds. Staying here, you’ll be close to beautiful Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold, in an excellent location for hiking and cycling. You can also stroll to the village pub – the perfect end to a countryside walk. The cottage has period features galore, including oak beams, mullion windows, and a stone fireplace, alongside modern conveniences like a fully equipped kitchen. There’s a front lawn and a rear courtyard where you can dine alfresco in warm weather.
