This terraced house has been completely refurbished in a superbly modern fashion. Our favourite spot has to be the bright and airy open-plan living space. With its wonderful bi-folding doors, this clever design essentially removes the wall between your home and your south-facing courtyard garden (perfect for the unpredictable English weather). Mid-century furniture looks stylish in the lounge, while the roll-top tub up in the master en-suite brings a vintage edge to proceedings. For more on local history, take a stroll through town to reach Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery in just eighteen minutes. Another fantastic walk is along the River Severn. Your home is just three minutes from the riverbank, from where you can follow it all the way across the border to Wales. It’s definitely one for experienced hikers with a strong pair of boots though, at just over ten miles away.

This grade II listed Georgian House in Ludlow is everything we look for in a quiet village getaway. Rebuilt and lived in by former glove makers from the late 1600s, this home is steeped in history, dating back to the Civil War – and doesn't it show. There are heaps of original features to these cosy digs. We especially love the handmade oak doors, wood beam ceilings and intricate fireplace that have been professionally restored by master craftsmen. While these period features add interest, the comfy living room is our favourite spot, with its realistic optimyst stove and large L-shaped sofa. Toast up those toes in front of the fire with a good book and a glass of wine in hand – you'll feel all warm and homely in no time at all. Step outside of this 17th-century building and explore one of the loveliest market towns in England that's positively brimming with listed buildings, medieval castles and striking churches. Take a short twelve-minute walk up Corve Street to the town centre and explore this historic place for yourself.

Originally built as lavish accommodation for guests visiting the estate, this stylish apartment has been transformed into a contemporary living area with a cosy snug, games room, high-spec kitchen, and an extravagant dining room with views across the formal gardens. The property also boasts lofty south-facing bedrooms with views of the garden. Guests can enjoy the beautiful walks around the estate and access to 1,000 acres of parkland. Larger parties can book the other homes available on the premises, too. The estate is located within easy reach of attractions such as Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, historic Chester and foodie destination Ludlow.

Located on the edge of the main square, you're going to struggle to find a more central home than this renovated townhouse in Shrewsbury. Step out your front door and you're surrounded by restaurants, shops and a cinema in a Grade-I listed Elizabethan building.

Rather impressively for an address with such a prime position, this home is huge and can quite easily accommodate large groups. The building is split into three separate apartments on each floor, which adds a welcome degree of privacy for families travelling together.

The design throughout is fresh and contemporary, with discernible mid-century influences visible in the furnishings. That being said, a few period features have been retained in the interior's modernisation, including embellishments on the ceiling, large sash windows and opulent fireplaces — sadly only ornamental, but still pretty nonetheless.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the historic market town, Shrewsbury Castle is seven minutes' walk in one direction and the riverside parkland in The Quarry is five minutes by foot the opposite way. The surrounding county is full of unspoilt countryside and you can drive over to the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in just under twenty minutes, too.

Surrounded by 10 acres of greenery, this place is ideal for unwinding with friends or family, boasting three comfy bedrooms and a super snug living area, perfect for impromptu movie nights with your favourite people.

Grab a seat at the breakfast bar and snack on fresh ingredients from the local farm shop or gather everyone round the dining table to feast on a traditional English breakfast – think smoky bacon, fried eggs and buttery toast – before heading out to explore the area. Fans of the outdoors will love it here – not only are you within striking distance of the River Perry, but it’s less than an hour’s drive to the Shropshire Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty full of hiking trails that’ll delight even the most experienced rambler. Go for a leisurely stroll through the gorgeous countryside, then come home and treat your muscles to a long soak in the private hot tub. Bliss.

This Grade II-listed barn has been beautifully restored, retaining many of its original period features including exposed beams and stonework. The property boasts panoramic views of the Shropshire Hills and is within striking distance of historic Shrewsbury and the River Severn, making it a fabulous base for couples or families to discover all that Shropshire has to offer. The cozy living area features a wood burning stove and high beamed ceilings, and the underfloor heating throughout ensures this single-storey conversion is ideal throughout the seasons. The well-equipped kitchen is fully fitted with integrated appliances and a separate utility room houses the washer/dryer. Both bedrooms have their own en-suite, one with a king-size leather sleigh bed and slipper bath, and the other with twin singles or a super-king size bed and an en-suite shower room. Outside, guests can enjoy superb views from the rear terrace with garden furniture and charcoal barbecue. Off-road parking is available for two cars.

Cherry House

Built in 1865, this romantic spot features panoramic views of the Shropshire countryside and Welsh borders. Offering a unique stay, as it's not every day you get to stay in an old fort tower, the best view in the house is from the rooftop terrace or the top-floor sitting room. With a wood-burning stove creating a cosy atmosphere, it's the perfect place to retreat to after country walks on the estate. The estate boasts 1,000 acres of parkland and is home to other historic holiday rentals too. Since there's a restaurant on-site, you needn't have to lift a finger while staying here. Plus, you'll find plenty of activities for guests to enjoy, including fishing, tennis courts and woodland adventure playgrounds.
