Compact but cosy and still packing a punch, this home is tailor-made for two. We love the bright pops of colour, giving the space a sunny vibe. And while the pint-sized courtyard is small, it’s a sweet spot for a morning cuppa or evening aperitif. With Minehead beach within walking distance, you’re well-placed to enjoy lazy days on the sand or strolling along the esplanade. Sunbathing not your thing? Take to the trails of Exmoor National Park instead – the views from the summit of Dunkery Beacon are worth the effort. 

Coastal Spirit

Searching for somewhere off the beaten track? It’s time to stop scrolling. Nestled in the Forest of Dean, this home has tranquillity at its core. Perfect for a family, four-legged friends included, the fully-fenced garden offers somewhere to sit back and listen to the sound of nature – just keep an eye on children and dogs, as although the trout pond is fenced with gated access, you can never be too safe. Exploring locally, you can take to the trails through the forest where if you’re lucky, you may even spot some wild boar and deer.

This unique home nestled in the Swansea Valley is the ideal place to begin your adventures in south Wales. With easy access to both the Brecon Beacons National Park and the coast, you'll love spending your downtime in these wonderfully peaceful surroundings. 

It was used as a cart house when first built, but has since been totally revamped by award-winning Rio Architects. The result is a splendid home that combines contemporary minimalism with some traditional touches – the hosts have even added some Welsh-themed artworks for you to admire. And, if you head outside, you'll find a patio area where you can sip drinks in the sunshine – look out for the magic stone tree built on one of the walls.

The popular Plas Farm Trail passes right by the cottage's front door, and a short road leads you down to the banks of the River Clydach then into a private bluebell wood. A twenty-minute car ride will bring you to the Brecon Beacons, where you can try your hand at a range of outdoor activities including rock climbing and kayaking. And, if you fancy a day at the seaside, you can drive to the Gower Peninsula in forty minutes to discover hidden beaches. 

Tales from the Mabinogion

Moments from Cheddar and Bristol, this dog-friendly country retreat offers sweeping views across rolling green hills. Inside, it’s modern rural living at its best – think wood burners, two inviting lounges, an open-plan kitchen-dining space, and expansive glass windows that blur the line between indoors and out. The bedrooms are all generously sized (so no squabbling), and the separate annexe is ideal for extended families or extra guests. Outside, there’s a hot tub for the grown-ups and a play area to keep the little ones happy. Whether you're here to hike, explore, or simply take it slow, this spot makes it easy.

The Idyllic Retreat

This place had us on those sweeping countryside views alone – it’s just green paddocks and rolling valleys for as far as the eye can see. And that was before we’d even noticed that suntrap terrace with hot tub.

Set on a private estate made up of seven holiday cottages and a mere ten-minute drive from some of North Devon’s most picturesque sandy bays, it’s got family holiday written all over it. Splash about in the heated indoor pool. Let little ones burn off steam in the impressive play area (or indoor soft play and games room should the weather turn). Meet the estate’s farm animals (over fifty and counting) at feeding time. Grab yourself some ‘me time’ with an onsite yoga or aqua aerobics class. Or head off on an adventure with furry friends through the gardens, sunken lanes, meadows, and streams (perfect for little dam-builders) – there are sixteen acres to explore here.

When thoughts turn to food, pick your own at the estate’s kitchen garden and greenhouse then rustle up a bite to eat at home. Or grab something from the onsite honesty shop, stocked with frozen meals, BBQ packs from the local farm shop, and lashings of ice cream. Then all that’s left to do is put your feet up and hunker down at home. With its four-poster beds and flagstone flooring, this cute-as-a-button hideaway delivers all the cottage charms you’re chasing. 

Aylesbury Cottage

If you're after a characterful stay in a charming village, this Dunster cottage ticks all the boxes. Step through the stable doors and straight into the cosy living area, where sumptuous seating and a log burner await. The country-style kitchen has all you need to rustle up dinner, while a small patio at the back is ideal for sundowners. Upstairs, the bedroom has both a double and a single bed, though we think it's best for two. Just note that the steep stairs aren't suitable for children under 5.  When you're ready to explore, you'll find pubs, quirky gift shops, and the famous Dunster Castle practically on your doorstep.

Dunster Daydream

If you’re searching for a break on the Somerset coast, it’s time to stop scrolling. Nestled on the edge of Exmoor National Park, this charming barn boasts panoramic sea views and direct beach access – perfect for families and those on a break with their four-legged friends. Just a stone’s throw from Porlock beach, this home is all about the outdoor lifestyle. So, whether you fancy hiking the moors, mountain biking the local trails, kayaking, paddle boarding or pony trekking – it’s all available nearby.

The Porlock Pearl

This home in Watchet is ideal if you're looking for a seaside getaway. It backs right onto the pebbled shores, and the rear garden has a beach hut and easy access to the coast. Indoors, the second bedroom boasts views of the sea – imagine waking up each morning to the sound of crashing waves. The living area is cosy, the kitchen has everything you'll need (though there isn't a washing machine), and there's a dining nook for meals at home. Location-wise, you're just a short stroll from Watchet's eateries and museums, an easy drive from Dunster Castle, and close to panoramic coastal walks.

This charming home is ideal for a family wanting to escape from it all, and you can even bring your four-legged friends along for the ride. Handy, really, given you’ve got a plethora of walks on your doorstep, not to mention Exmoor National Park within easy reach. Fancy a coast day instead? You’re around a half-hour drive from North Somerset’s beaches – this home really does give you the best of both worlds.

Come the colder months, the snug living room, with a log burner, is a quiet spot to curl up with a book or film. 

If the weather allows, you're expertly placed to explore the natural beauty of Dartmoor National Park. Bring snacks and plenty of water before you embark on a journey across the scenic walking trails. It's an idyllic location for picnics underneath the summer sun.

A Chocolate Box

The brainchild of a celebrated interior designer, this North Devon townhouse has got it all figured out. Located a couple of minutes’ drive from Croyde beach, where you’ll spend long days surfing and soaking up the salty sea breeze, the inside of the home is beautifully sophisticated, with subtle nautical nods—we loved the knot wallpaper and delicate fish shoal light shade. The bunks in the children’s room will be a hit with mini swashbucklers, while the pizza oven on the patio should keep big kids quiet for a while. You’ll find the pretty village of Croyde a five-minute amble down the road, offering a charming selection of tea rooms, ice cream parlours and thatched pubs. After a hearty roast dinner, retreat home to the outdoor hot tub before turning in for the night in those luxurious king-size beds.
